If I were going, and because I've never been, I'd get off the beaten path. It would be about the trip, as much as the destination. We call it taking the scenic route. Stop and take pictures along the way, find local restaurants to have our meals, and stay at a b&b if we find someplace we want to hang out at for a day or two. They weren't interested in the scenic route. They were just interested in the destination.
Scenic routes are the BEST routes on any trip. The W’s sure missed out then.
Agree! I don't like to travel by plane either, unless it's just necessary. I want to see everything, breathe the air, stop at the local hole-in-the-wall. Maybe they did, but they seemed to get up there pretty quick.
Did anyone every find out how much the W boys got for their property on Peterson Rd? I went through US Land Records and found out that when they went to sell the land, there was a mechanics lien on it from no payment to Gary Roland for the work done of the property(labor and construction) and I'm going to assume it was the new barn/stables. The lien date is December 16, 2016, and sum owed was 5,925.00. But there was a Satisfaction of Mortage through First State Bank and after paying the contractor and 75,000.00 owed on the property, the property was released on March 16,2017. Maybe this explains why they didn't move to Alaska until that time.

If I remember correctly, there was talk, that they had the farm sold, at one point, then it fell through. This is probably why, then, a sale to the folks who own it now, was finalized in March of last year. It may be the same folks, they just had to stop things, and come up with funds to pay the lien, which, again, makes me think that they were not rollin' in the dough. Saying the sale fell through, saves face, though.

What I cant figure out is, if it sold for $165k or $200k. The site I shared above lists selling price at $165k. Zillow has the selling price listed at $200k.
In either instance, they took significant less than original asking price. Also, I saw AW try to brush the move under the rug by saying they didnt move for over a year, BUT again there more words of the Ws that dont add up. They didnt move because the farm didnt sell. Had it sold sooner, Id go all in on a game of blackjack (and not worry about a poker face) and bet theyd have moved sooner. JMO
County records show $165k , but there's two lots. The lot with the home was 71ish acres, and the lot across from it with the new barn, totals around 13ish acres.
On March 17, 2017, the only amount showing, is $165k, from the new owners to the boys, and then, the new owners split that 13 acres off, and it appears as a sale for $35k from owner to owner to put into a survivorship deed, and they transferred the 71 acres to each other as a survivorship deed. This all happened on the same day. Both transactions, but the new owners' transfers,were not valid sales. They just re-did the deed, or so it appears, but I am not familiar with deeds and IANARealtor, so this is only my guess from puzzling it over.
I’d like to say I’m surprised. LOL. But I’m not. I noticed the $35k earlier and wondered about the land actually being 2 parcels. The pics within the first link I shared sparked my interest as well. Some were screen shots from an iPhone camera roll and showed other pics at the bottom. I’m currently working on that.
But it can appear to be that they, the boys, received 200k, rather than $165k, is what I'm seeing. Again, this deed stuff is not my favorite stuff to research, so I may be seeing this all wrong.
Thats what Im seeing as well. But I dont understand how a parcel of land can be divided like that. I dont know the legalities behind it, but I do know in order to split a lot into two parcels, paperwork has to be filed. And then there would be two Laredo #s and a 2nd address(typically) on the divided lot. So a) the parcel split was done at the closing of the sale which I highly doubt. Or b) the boys split the parcel sometime between their purchase and the sale. But theres no records for that, as far as I can tell, so I dont know whats going on there...
Also O/T a tad but since mentioned earlier, the deed filed by the new owners is a smart move because its a deed that automatically transfers full ownership to the other in the event one of them passes away. Its really just a smart way to avoid red tape in the event of a spouse dying.
I think, I saw something about, that they had it listed as one parcel, the 71 acres, with the other parcel listed separate, with an option to purchase both, at a better price.
Ok, in my notes it (the Land) was listed in 2 parcels. Parcel #1= 58.1321 acres in Oliver Twp, Adams Co. Parcel #2 = 13.4273 acres in Oliver Twp, Adams Co. When I went looking for the elder Wags land, all I could get to was the land they owned in Pike Co. When you look at the first page of US Land Records, everything is in the Elder George's name. When you open the documents, it appears that some of the lands have been put in a trust. I also noticed that the Elder gentleman Rsd was referring to has his land listed in a trust Sk** Mont*****. What is the advantage of doing that? So that the other person/s automaticially inherit's the land without having to go through probate? Those avoiding estate taxes?
