It is so heartbreaking to know one brother can take the life of another beloved brother all for money and material possessions. Greed is the root of all evil and this shows it to be true.

I wonder if their parents recently passed away and maybe the younger brother was cutout of the Will for some reason.

Such a sad tragedy for all who loved this Pastor. He seems to have been a very wonderful caring human being.:(

I don't think I can c&p any more without breaking the copyright rule, but the article I just posted explains this as well. It doesn't seem to have been about an inheritance.

Actually the article Kimi posted explains it a lot better. Thanks, Kimi. I hadn't been able to access it from my phone so I'm just now reading the article.

Here's another link to the exact same article: http://wdtn.com/2016/02/29/pastor-brother-brought-money-matters-to-court/

Schooler claimed that when his father died in 1973 he wasn’t able to leave behind a will, and so he believed he was entitled to half of the market value of the church property, an apartment building on the 1700 block of Kenturah Avenue, and possibly another apartment building.

Lawyer claims self defense for Dayton brother in death of pastor

http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/crime--law/lawyer-claims-self-defense-for-dayton-brother-death-pastor/3wtjJEiL9lekCJ7A3NorZO/

“For whatever reason, the defendant came to church angry that day,” Montgomery County assistant prosecutor Nicole Amrhein told jurors during Monday’s opening statements. “He came angry and armed — armed with a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun.”

Defense attorney Jay Carter said the brothers had an “adversarial relationship for years” and that Daniel feared William.

“Evidence will show that Daniel Schooler is not guilty of murder and felonious assault involving William Schooler and acted in self defense.”

Dayton man guilty in shooting death of brother in church office

http://www.whio.com/news/crime--law/dayton-man-guilty-shooting-death-brother-church-office/l1iCQmi17jXB5HyoxhvggK/

Daniel Schooler told a jury Wednesday that he was afraid on Feb. 28, 2016, when he shot and killed his brother Rev. William Schooler at the church their family founded.

Daniel Schooler said he shot his brother in self defense after William Schooler reached toward him when both were in a closed church office. The jury didn’t believe him.

A Montgomery County Common Pleas Court jury took an hour and a half to find the 69-year-old guilty of murder and other counts related to the death of his 70-year-old brother.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 28th.

Daniel Schooler would be 70 now. It's a shame he'll be spending his declining years in a prison cell. Not saying I feel sorry for him--just reflecting that he has not only ended his brother's life over material possessions, he has in essence ended his own life, with nothing good to look forward to. He'll never be able to enjoy those possessions he sparred over, so the killing was senseless. If only he had thought that through and appreciated what he already had--including his brother. MOO

Man sentenced for fatally shooting his brother in church

http://wdtn.com/2017/06/28/man-sentenced-for-fatally-shooting-his-brother-in-church/

The man convicted of shooting and killing his brother in a Dayton church will spend the next 31 years to life in prison.

Daniel Schooler received that sentence from Judge Steven Dankof at a hearing on Wednesday.

“We’re very saddened about the whole event. We’re glad that it’s coming to a closure. From this day forward we will try to go forward with our family,” said Patricia Wright, the niece of the Schooler brothers.

Daniel Schooler, 69, was sentenced to a range of 15 years to life for murder and an additional three years for using a firearm in the crime.

In a separate trial, for which Schooler also was sentenced on Wednesday, he received another 13 years for his conviction on a second weapons count and a repeat violent offender charge, Heck said. Montgomery County Judge Steven Dankof ruled the sentences in both cases would be served consecutively.
