I've just caught up on this one and I am sitting here shaking my head.

Why would you dispose of a body by throwing your wife off a bridge into the Tennessee River? Why? To hide something? I can't wrap my head around dementia sending you in this direction. Why not report it? To hide something? Why not call your kids and tell them what's happening and ask for help? To hide something?

Even if dementia is at play here, it still doesn't add up to me.

I guess I'm going to have to sit on my hands for a while longer while my hinky meter goes crazy.

I just can't piece this together to have make any sense, even if I factor in dementia.

My first candidate also. I emailed them and asked. Keep you posted.
Obit mystery solved:

Me:
I am curious if your paper printed this obituary. I am concerned about what happened to her, and can't figure out Where this newsclip came from. Any ideas?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Wonder when he took it in? I haven't looked back yet but wasn't the date of death 2 days after they left for Graceland?

I guess “he” is her husband?
That was one generic obit!

  • #386
So, he was able to remember all of the details in the obituary of his family, date of birth, date of death, etc, but couldn't in the beginning remember what happened to her- first he sent her off to lala land in an ambulance." No, wait, I dumped her in the river! But I can remember to post a detailed obituary as soon as I get back!"

Honestly, I am just shaking my head with this case. When I read and reread the details of this case, by the time I am through, I can't tell if I am on foot or on horseback.

My thought with that obit reply was wow, that's an awfully "generic" reply too! Who is "he"? (we're assuming the husband, but none of any of this story/mystery makes much sense)

Right now we can only assume "he" is her husband. It was like the obituaries of old, just the basics, nothing personal listed in it. Seeing that he wrote it out, I am thinking he might not know that obituaries today have more about the deceased, such as whether they were a sports fan, loved to travel- I mean, I'm surprised he didn't write about her love for Elvis and Graceland, but he didn't. Just an old fashioned obituary- there are families that do still use them in that manner, but it seems so impersonal.

Hopefully LE knows about this. I suspect they do.

Excellent find, thanks! That detail was bugging me.

I'm on horseback and the horse has thrown me and is dragging me with one foot in the stirrup.

Sadly, until her body is found, if it is ever found, I don't think we'll ever know what truly happened to Bobby. For all we know, he could have done his own cremation of her- I know that sounds God awful, but seeing that so far, there isn't any evidence of her whatsoever taking that trip with him, he could have done just about anything with her. Tossing her in the river sounds like a pretty handy excuse- it can take a long time before a corpse shows up in the river, and even then, it can be pieces of clothing, bones, etc that show up a year or so later. This is just so sad for her family- my heart breaks for them all.

Honestly, that's a dar gone good description of how I feel right now. This poor woman, who at this point, we can gather is deceased, without a single trace to her.

LE hasn't stated if they found receipts for the garbage bags or if he went through the car wash to wash his truck. I also haven't seen any reports of whether or not they found anything suspicious in their home or truck- any evidence at all of her going on that trip. I think they need to make a plea to the public at this point to see if anyone remembers seeing him on this trip, was Bobby alive and with him at any time during the trip, or if he was alone. What his emotional state was, so many questions leaving folks that want to help hanging off the horse, so to speak.

Her brother mentioned that he knew she was going on the trip to Graceland, and he last talked to her on January 2nd. That's the last time anyone has talked to her. So sad and frustrating to see that her family has no body to properly grieve.

I was on the fence and probably leaning toward him being guilty of improperly burying her, but not of anything else. Now that we know the obit is legit and he apparently brought it in, I'm reversing my position. What bugs me about the obit is his controlling how she would be memorialized after controlling the disposition of her remains (and perhaps even her manner of death). Did he really think he could dispose of her and no one in the family would care where her remains were or want to commemorate her passing? Even for someone "old school," that seems like a profound emotional disconnect from -- if not anger toward -- family and the person who just passed away.

?Just one more thought...Can dementia come and go? My mom had surgery and she went into a pyschotic(I hope this is the right word) state afterwards. Oh my!! She is fine now.
...but when asked ?'s she came up with some doozies but after 2 or 3 answers would answer correctly.?

The Obit is still something that gives me an eerie feeling. I understand that the newspaper cant do much about it. But what puzzles me is that the husband takes this Obit to the newspaper while its obvious there is no body. So its impossible to have her cremated.

This is pure speculation from my side, but what if he even wanted to pretend she was in a casket? And somehow that part of the plain failed?

So if he was the one who brought the obit in to the newspaper to be published...then why did he spell her first name wrong?

ETA: I was just reading her sisters FB and a few other places and everyone else spells her name as Bobbie.

Thinking more about this obit which is really starting to bug me.
Maybe he thought that by not submitting an obit to their local paper, it would make him appear more suspicious so that’s why he felt he needed to submit something?

To me though, the obit reads like whoever wrote it did so in a hurry, not taking much time or thought. Just wanted to get it done and get it submitted ASAP. Also the writer seemed very detached from the person that they couldn’t even include their education, their hobbies or anything at all about their life. Just very strange especially if the obituary was written by a spouse of 53 years.
