Mystery... we have mutual friends of Shasta, her boyfriend and the other girls who went missing earlier this year. Two have been found safe, one found deceased COD- OD, boyfriend's former girlfriend deceased COD- OD. LE said she exchanged texts with some friends after leaving her grandma's. LE said the car was borrowed from a friend.

No not that I've seen but there was a short quote from him on the Huffington Post article before he was arrested. According to the family page, he hasn't joined in any searches.

According to Shasta Himelrick's Facebook page, she is dating a man named Michael Owes. Contacted by HuffPost Tuesday, Owes said he was unable to discuss the case.

"I'm speaking to two detectives as we speak right now," he said. "Maybe call me back tomorrow and I can discuss it."

Shasta is only 20. She might be called a "woman" .. but she is still a kid. 20 isn't that mature. Am wondering how old the bf is. He already had 3 children, so must have a few years on Shasta. I fear that poor Shasta is as old as she is ever going to be. Hopefully there will be news soon. Wish it could be good news.

10TV uncovered new information after investigators say a pair of shoes belonging to Shasta Himelrick were found on the Higby Bridge, just a few feet from where they found her car.

Just how many feet do they consider a few? It's a lot more than just a "few" feet to get to a spot on the bridge where it is over water. If her car is found at the railroad tracks, does that put her shoes close to the beginning of the bridge? If they are at the beginning of the bridge, that has me doubting that is the end of her scent trail the K-9 picked up. If that's the case, where does the trail end? Is it on the bridge or does it lead to the banks of the river via the land? If the shoes aren't the items found at the end of the trail, then what items were found?

It was an SAR working with LE, not the family's SAR. As far as the shoes, the family mentioned a few days ago in MSM that they were found so unless there were more than one pair, the shoes weren't found during this particular search.

Chief Andrew Surritt, of search-and-rescue team Rescue 101, said a dog designated to follow a trail was given an article of clothing with Himelrick's scent on it to follow.

Surritt said the dog stopped at the end of the trail and found items nearby that were of interest to the sheriff's department. It was then that another dog trained in tracing human remains was used and indicated an area in the river where the search with divers continues.

"Both of the dogs on the bank and a K-9 on the bridge alerted to a particular area of interest," Suritt said. "If the divers do not find anything tonight, we have offered to keep our crews on standby for the sheriff to use tomorrow," Surritt said.

1. A K-9 was used ["a K-9 on the bridge alerted to a particular area of interest."]
2. Two other dogs were used ["Both of the dogs on the bank."]
3. One dog, although not officially specified was trained in tracing human remains...cadaver dog?
4. Third dog unknown as to what type of scent it tracks.
5. Three known scent locations. The bridge, the shore and in the water, although how far into the water is unknown.

What is known leaves me with a few questions, perhaps you can clear up.
1. If a dog trained in tracing human remains is used and detects a scent in the water...did a death definitely occur or is there a possibility of her being alive?
2. How long can human remains be in the water for, before a dog can no longer detect a scent?
3. When a dog detects a scent of human remains, is the scent tied directly to a specific person or just to someone who died in general?

There is another woman from the area who disappeared back in May and hasn't been found. Is there any possibility that Shasta is still alive and the scent that is being detected is from someone else's remains? LE hasn't come out and stated they believe her to be deceased.

I reread the thread at the link I posted. It appears that the private company was always escorted by a RCSSD deputy. This may account for LE's ability to make statements to the public as though their own SAR made the find.

Particular comments on Wednesday around 5p (I'm in California) and 11 hours ago) lead me to believe there's quite a bit happening behind the scenes that is not being co overhead by MSM.

Might be worth it for a :websleuther: to read up on the updates on the previous searches (including admin replies) as we await the return to Saturday morning's search, to help piece this together for sarx.

Typically there is a $500 withdrawal per day limit on an atm

If Shasta had inheritance why didn't she have her own car?

I agree she is only 20 (a woman/child) so much life ahead of her.
To get hooked up with an older man with children and a new baby on the way......she doesn't realize the problems that lay ahead.

The individual has done things that could hinder the investigation into Mrs. Himerlick's disappearance. This says the car was found the morning of the 26th. So the family must've hired an SAR less than 24 hours after Shasta was last seen.

So, MSM has picked up on this aspect of the story. I'm not sure if this is good or bad. Perhaps it is a bit of both. Having all eyes on RCSD is going to put more pressure on an already high stress situation. These groups are supposed to be working in cooperation with each other. The RCSD is in charge of public safety, and finding Shasta is not their only focus. Bringing Shasta home is all the private SAR groups are there for. So, I would expect some areas where things don't line up, but I'm surprised at the outward appearance of conflict. Perhaps it was presumptive of me to expect the professionalism between SAR teams to continue up the chain of command. :moo:

The family is upset. I don't hold them to the same expectations as I do LE in this arena. In fact, deputies should have undergone sensitivity training, etc. I am disappointed that this working relationship has deteriorated, and can only hope things can recover. Shasta and her baby are relying upon every single searcher - the SAR teams especially. I am hoping for the best here! lease:
