Anyone else notice how quiet the Sheriff has been lately? Phew-this case doesnt need any more distractions. JMVHO.

Hmmm, I'll have to give it a think about how a piece of evidence which was discussed at length in open court is sweeping it under the rug. Of course, that was after it was described fairly accurately in the 9/2/12 Plain Dealer article.

I dont disagree that the evidence was out there, and certainly available to many after the Probable Cause Hearing.

If I were the Sheriff I would have said more or less when he discussed MN's tape. I know I am quarterbacking, but maybe stating that he had seen the tape would have been sufficient. Or stating he wasnt prepared to comment on it.

I think it has to be hard if you are not used to being questioned or challenged, and the whole world seems to be nitpicking your every move.

From what I've seen, the coverage of this case in local media has been terrible. Judging from the comments on recent articles, many local people feel that way too.

In case it's not obvious by this point, people feel the evidence is being swept under the rug because despite the photos, videos, tweets and witnesses to this crime, it appears that only two people are facing minimal charges.

The coach is or should be a mandated reporter. Seeing drunk kids and not doing a anything? Really? That is O K?

...He added that the picture that seems to show M<modsnip> and his client carrying the girl from one room to the next as she’s seemingly unconscious is not what it seems.

“Out of context, it’s outrageous,” Madison said. “In context, maybe the shutter flashed when her eyes were blinking. I can tell you she was not unconscious.”...

If she was not unconscious then WHY was she being carried from party to party
by her wrists and ankles? What conscious girl allows herself to be carried like a corpse from place to place like that?

I've only just started reading about this case in the last day and I am horrified that kids, verging on adults, can behave in this way. And I am sickened at the lack of charges against more of these 'men'. Just watched the video and that guy is an a class freak. I hope he is ostracised for a long time and works hard to earn a valued placed in society again. If only someone that night had the foresight and courage to call the police during the rapes.

I agree, it is hard to imagine any girl ever dating him. His parents should be so proud.

Well, I needed to make myself sick to my stomach because I couldn't eat anything after 6pm last night, due a procedure I'm having today. So I bit the bullet and watched the entire video of M<Modsnip> C<modsnip> N<modsnip> metaphors about her being dead while he laughs til he's almost crying. I had heard he admits to attacking her in the video, but I didn't hear that. I did hear him admit to being there while they were taking her out.

In the second video at 6:25 it appears that there is a girl in the house with them. Does anyone else think that's a girl? She's followed by a guy in a white tank top.

It also appears he's wearing a Livestrong bracelet. :furious:

The clown in the video also says that she was "dead" and that they should have seen how "they" were carrying her. This attorney is a real class act although I know that he has to do whatever he can to help his client.

I noticed the girl too walking in with a boy near the end of the video. She stood out to me because I'm having a problem with a girl who would be around this pack talking and joking about the rape of this girl. WTH hasn't she been identified and why the heck didn't she come forward. Maybe she is the girl who helped the ex-boyfriend dupe this girl into going to the party.

The coverage couldn't have been too lax: the football team was heckled and ridiculed at every opposing venue they went to.

Once again, I must point out the two defendants were initially charged as severely as possible, as adults. The judge felt it did not meet the standard under Ohio Law to move up from juvie. He ruled against kidnapping since it was her choice to go with defendants after first party. And she was conscious at that point. Just because evidence hasn't been shared with the public, doesn't mean it is being swept under the rug.

IMO, the sheriff appears to be focusing mostly on shutting up "Anonymous" group than anything else.

It's part of the court record, testified under oath by lead detective in October 2012. Derndit again!

Part of the record, yet for some reason the fact the video existed or that there were large number students who were either witnesses or had heard about the rape but didn't help or report it, wasn't considered of enough public interest to be published. From reading local press in the early days, it was simply a rape by two football players at a party. Meanwhile, the narrator of the video is on scholarship, probably attending parties on campus and making new female acquaintances. For others involved, life in high school went on as usual... sports were participated in, the football team cheered and paraded, dances and parties attended, honors bestowed and scholarships applied for and awarded.

One of the school district's teachers and her little league coach husband take in one of the accused rapists, appearing on national media with his attorney, talking about what a nice young man he is. After taking him on a little vacation in California, approved by the judge. The coach threatens a reporter for the NYT while one of his assistants says the girl was only trying to cover up her night of partying. The school superintendent says he left decisions about discipline of involved students up to the coach. The State AG says there were no deals, later we find his office did issue letters of immunity. It takes Hanlin two weeks to remember she knows kids involved and the local sheriff, after making Barney Fife look like a PR whiz, decides decisive action by his department is possible - when directed toward social media reporting on the case. Distrust of Goddard or Anonymous are posted here repeatedly - the poster will only trust local media - but is relieved that a pig like Stranahan shows up on the scene. I don't know what "Derndit" means so think I'll stick with "Oy Vey!"

Ironic to your point, IMO, is that the reporter is crediting Goddard in this article for much of the information and for it being saved & archived...one of those durn biased social media types who didn't sweep it under the rug.

Thank you for the clarification....

I am going into lurk mode....

Obviously the twists and turns in this case have gone over my head...

:blushing:

I'm having trouble keeping up with this case. I'm trying to parse what I believe is truth from fiction and it's not easy.

She could have been. How could a girl listen to this and not (I don't want to get banned so use your imagination) BTW, at the end of the first video they show a picture of him sitting in the chair with a rifle next to him.

COLUMBIANA - Bob Spaite believes it is time to step down from two positions he has held in the city school district the last several years.

The board of education accepted Spaite's retirement resignation last week and on June 1 he will no longer be teaching social studies or serve as athletic director. He will remain on as head football coach, a position he had held 19 seasons.

Why hasn't this video been studied by experts against possible suspects and/or witness'? MN is the only one they seem to care about.

BTW, he also makes a joke "What if she had a black baby"

This post deserves more than the thanks button. I agree with everything you said. This whole situation frightens me beyond belief because there is a similarity to the Penn State mess in terms of cover up, IMOO. What frightens the bejesus out of me is that sports programs at most high schools (especially football) hold this kind of popularity and power. I have an almost 12 yo daughter and a 9 yo daughter and the thought of them even remotely rubbing shoulders with boys like this makes me want to home school them. Unfortunately I don't think these youth are that much different than any others their age around the country. I know and come into contact with men who are fathers of the boys my kids go to school with that are not gentlemanly, empathic, or compassionate and these men are raising the boys that will one day try to date my daughters. Ugh! What is this world coming to?
