I wondered if it was another ruse where he may have BS’d this person into the notion that they went to class together. Especially if it was some time back. I went to a really small school but a somewhat bigger local college and wouldn’t remember everybody.
I don't think it's a ruse because the poster uses his real name-Ted. I suspect maybe the news made the local circuit before becoming a national story.

I hadn't come across this case until recently. It's an interesting case of someone changing their name because they were actually a wanted person, not someone with mental health issues as well as merely wanting to distance themselves from the past or unpaid child support ( not that isn't an issue, but it's not on the same level as this case), like Joseph Chandler or Lori Ruff.

Apparently, he did have issues with his family, too, but obviously that wasn't the main reason he got a new identity..https://nypost.com/2023/12/02/news/dad-had-a-shocking-deathbed-confession-he-was-wanted-by-the-fbi/

New article today:

On his deathbed, her father told her a secret: He was a fugitive and had robbed a bank in Ohio

"He implored his daughter not to look into the case. But after this bombshell revelation, Ashley Randele didn’t sleep much that night. So she did what most curious people would do.

“I’m alone in my childhood bedroom, and I Googled ‘Ted Conrad missing,’ and the first thing that came up said something like, ‘Vault teller robs bank.’ I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is my dad,’” she told CNN. “And there were hundreds and hundreds of articles about him.”

With every click, her father’s dark past unspooled before her eyes."
