A second student, Russell King, has died from his injuries.

My son's future MIL is a dispatcher for Chardon PD. She took the call when it came in for the shooting; emotionally, she's a wreck.

:(

I was just reading about Russell here before it was confirmed he died.

RIP Russell. :rose:

Interesting piece of information in the article. According to a friend, Russell had begun dating a former girlfriend of T.J. They don't think that was a motive but it is a possibility, imo.

So sad.

I am crying. The young man was brain dead and on life support. My God that is so hard. Cnn doesnt seem to know much about it. These young people had so much to live for. As a State we hurt. I wish i could go there and hug the parents, for they are all going through a living hell right now. I can only hope TJ. Lang is put away for life. I am sick of all the oh its mental! I want him where he will never ever get to do this again. To see your child lay there unable to do anything is the must awful thing in the world. God help the rest of them to get well..it hurts so bad. Please pray for them or keep them in mind. Nore.

Sometimes we forget how important it is to hug our kids. Yes, even our teenagers. They may not like all that mushy stuff but deep down, they know how much we love them. :(

My daughter loves her hugs - I made sure she had a big one today, before I dropped her off at school. She said that she and a friend thought they should fly the flag at half-staff in support of the families of those killed in Chardon.

The thing I picked up from his facebook is that ... he didn't seem to have many "friends" despite the 156 "friends" listed. No one ever commented on anything he posted or liked it, etc. That alone would concern me looking at his page. Social isolation during the teenage years seems to equal trouble. It could just be internal troubles for that teen, but it could be .. bigger issues. :(

His FB was quite sparse. IIRC, he posted mostly music videos. Did anyone else notice that people were "unfriending" him before the page was pulled? Also, several people had "liked" his poem and he thanked them and mentioned he'd written it in class.

Very sad news. If the young man was brain dead and on life support that would explain the local tweets yesterday stating he had died. The locals probably knew through the grapevine that he was on life support and was not expected to recover. Heartbreaking. I can't begin to imagine what the victims' families are going through.

I agree with you, it's probably not a coincidence that TJ shot the ex-friend dating his ex-girlfriend.

Here we go with the misreporting...

CHARDON, Ohio — A spokesperson for the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office tells Fox 8 News that a student wounded in the Chardon High School shootings has been pronounced brain dead, but remains on life-support at MetroHealth Medical Center.

has it been reported where the gun came from?

I have a feeling it's going to turn out to be an unsecured family member's gun. Most kids that are going to go on a shooting rampage, if they are going to have a gun bought for them, or even go out and break into a house to steal one, are gong to take more firepower than a .22. Yes, he likely would have known that a .22 would kill at close range, but still, most of these shooters are out to make the biggest statement of their young lives. They tend to go bigger than a .22. I have a feeling he took the only gun he had unrestricted access to.

Have Lane's parents made a statement?

Hi, not as far as I know. They taped yesterday near the grandparents home, also searched it. TJ. lived with his grandparents. Mom and Pop spent too much time fighting! no doubt ignored the child. I shouldnt say "child" as he is 17. I married at that age that is not a child. A young adult. I heard the prosecutor wants him in an adult facility due to the seriousness of his crime.
Oh yes!! he is scared! Tough darts Buster. :maddening:

Interesting that Medina was the only school to react so strongly (and that it's being reported as such). Word on the ground is that there was a copycat threat made.

Media was not the only school (Medina is a good hour, 1 1/2 hours from Chardon). Our school district, 10 minutes from Chardon, had the students on lockdown all day yesterday, and had the police there, all day. They also had the police there today.

Thank you! People on Twitter were reporting that Demetrius Hewlin had passed away but I'm hoping it's not true.

Honestly, I strongly disagree. If a kid has predisposed violent tendencies, then they're going to be violent regardless of whether they play games or not. Those video games sell millions of copies. I know so many people, teens and adults, who play these kinds of games and would never kill or harm anyone. If someone actually is motivated to act based on video games, then their mental state is questionable to begin with.

Do you also disagree that it gives kids an unrealistic view of death? I know that not every kid who plays these games goes out to kill (as I said, my son has played, and continues to play them, as a 23 year old). But I really think that kids get a skewed view of death. They don't see it as final. Of course, this depends upon the age, maturity level, and psychological psyche of the person playing.

And here is my line of reasoning (in case anyone wonders). I graduated from high school in 1983. School shootings didn't occur back then. Why? What has changed in our world, that now these things happen? For one thing, back then, about the only video games we had were Pong, Centipede and Asteroid. The police had bigger, more power guns than the bad guys back then; drugs were used back then in high school, but it was mostly pot and speed; we sure didn't have lyrics to songs like they are today -- the worst I can think of is "School's Out For Summer". So...what else has changed between now and then?

And I'm not saying games like this are to blame -- totally. Just that I think they do a lot of harm that people don't think about.

I won't even get into guns being readily available...because I know back in pioneer days, every house had a gun, for putting food on the table as well as for safety. But there was also a healthy respect for guns, and people didn't run around shooting someone just because they p!ssed them off.

My view on violent games, movies etc. is that it just desensitizes. It doesn't cause anyone to act out. I do believe it doesn't help an individual with these kinds of issues. It's a perfect storm. From the little publicized I cant help but wonder if this kid could have been saved. I hate the choice he made and my heart goes out to all affected. Just a gut feeling he isn't the typical shooter who laughed and was proud of his act. So very sad.

Yes, it desensitizes them, thank you! That was a good way to put it.

He acted first, and thought later...typical, I think, for someone his age, without a fully developed frontal lobe, and raging hormones.

Looks like it from the link nurse posted above. Appear to be set. I have HLN on but no word there yet.

He's "remorseful" today, but yesterday he was cold and deliberate, according to witness accounts. He walked over to a table and shot people in the backs of their heads from close range.

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/46553855/ns/today-today_people/#.T0z4KeuttPU

excerpt:
Witnesses said Lane was emotionless as he emptied a round of bullets. He was chased outside by assistant football coach and teacher Frank Hall before surrendering to police.
“It was straight determination,’’ (student Travis) Carver said of Lane. “He just had that look on his face. It’s hard to describe. It just sticks with you.’’

Yeah, now he's "scared". I expect the defense spin to begin at any moment.
