Not everyone wore the styles of the day that stick in the mind for certain decades. And some people hold on to previous eras fashion. I think between the late 70s to late 80s was lots of fluctuation. I think some of the women's shoes look like those flats that were kind of a dressier "loafer" type. That paisley dress compared to the bright big flower print close by kind of puzzling. There are still images on line of fashion for years in the 70s and 80s in Sears and Penny's catalogs. Maybe some other catalogs back in the day too. The guy with the henley neck shirt pulled over another shirt?? Maybe it was a theme party where you were supposed to come dressed in 70s 0r 80s or some other era of fashion and some didn't bother? It's a strange picture to me!!

That's why I was thinking it might be a class reunion sort of thing. The only one I went to, my five-year reunion in 1976,about a third of my classmates were dressed in current dressy clothing, half were wearing the things they wore back when we graduated, and the rest were in bicentennial-themed historic or patriotic clothing. It was a very odd mix, to say the least.

Yes --all that could be why hair and shoes don't seem to fit a 70s or 80s era. Those would be hardest to appear authentic to the era.

Thanks to everyone for the great info about the Troy, Ohio area. VERY helpful. I've got a picture in my mind developing of this girl and her life. We know from the pollen analysis the various places she traveled. We know she was in exceptional physical shape. We know she was found in an area that not only is a hub for manufacturing, but for agriculture as well.
When you put all that together, I speculate she was attached to a large farm operation, and went on long hauls to deliver fruit/produce to various locations that the pollen tests revealed. She was a farm worker, and loaded/unloaded produce, traveled to sell & deliver. Her Perp could have been an independent trucker, or part of a larger food distribution from Dayton. (Dayton is only 30 miles from Troy).
We haven't discussed this possibility yet, but she could have been *robbed*. Maybe she collected a large sum of money for a haul and was robbed?

That's the thought path I'm on at the moment....

Interesting theory. Hearing people's ideas help and may trigger other thoughts. It is hard to discount the connection to trucking in this area. Putting it together with agriculture makes a lot of sense. Someone else I think said the road she was found near has large trucks that travel it to area farms. I sure hope this is figured out some day soon. Seeing her autopsy photos brings such compassion and tenderness for her. Her anonymity in death is so distressing.

The agriculture/produce connection could also possibly explain the rubber bands securing her braids.

  • #2,388
And those braids......fashioned in a manner to keep her hair out of the way. Cowgirl style. Defintely for function, not looks. This would be consistent with farm labor as well

lots of amish folks in Ohio. Possibly she came from Amish community that she left at 18? I'm sure this idea has likely been introduced already, but wanted to bring up the possibility again. I dated someone for a while who's parents both grew up Amish in OH and left the community. Many teens did so in the 70's/80's. Could account for her not being claimed/identified.

For some reason when I look at her I think of a rugged girl who likes riding on the back of a motorcycle. The hair makes me think this as well.

Of course it also seems the hairstyle maybe was intended to be worn while laboring.

I'm just looking at some possible reasons as to why she hasn't been reported publicly missing - what would that reason be ...

These are a few of my assumptions about BSG (& I know theyre not everyones assumption ;) ) so bear with me :)
- BSG was 18-19 years old
- That the jacket may not have been hers, or it was an item of clothing that she only used occasionally, or was relatively new, even second hand.
- (known) BSG when found was in good health, good physical condition, good personal hygiene.

I cant remember if there is a focus on the Military in Ohio related to BSG.

Is it possible that she was in the Military - or had a military family?
either as an enlisted person, or a civilian worker, a Reservist - or a family member of a person in the military, a boyfriend?

Would the military (1981) issue a missing persons report to Police?
or do they consider this to be an internal matter?
Would a person missing from a Military camp be reported AWOL instead?

Wright Patterson Military Airbase is South of Troy Co. and 40 minutes away and is a good candidate for a few reasons, has it been considered she may have been from there?

or
Could she have been from the Dayton area - or the University of Dayton?

or
Is it possible that her identity has been stolen by another person and they are still living under her name.
Is is possible that BSG's killer was a female.(I'm not sure what the evidence is related to the gender of her killer and what reasons they know its male or female)

I searched every page of one of those "looking for" forums the other night, and there were a couple of names that jumped out at me due to areas they were from, and I was surprised to see so many people looking for family members who weren't reported missing. Does anyone have access to databases where we could search the names? It's only a couple of them.

Not much to go on, but here's an Ohio births index of 1821-1962. I know finding her is near impossible, considering there's 10+ pages and we don't know if she was even born in Ohio. I've been browsing though!

We need to get the people who are looking for somebody to put them into Namus and get their DNA in if they can.

I also cant help but notice how great her brows look. Not trying to be funny, but it looks like she definitely shaped them! I am a cosmetologist and I don't think ive ever seen a client with brows such as hers that were "natural" Everyone's hair is different though.

Could this have been her? https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/36410/3/

It's a stretch but they look similar. Denise was 23 and it's said that Buckskin Girl is possibly a teenage run away (younger than 23) but some people look much younger than they are, so she [Buckskin Girl] could have been older.

Denise went missing from her home in New Hampshire, but she probably ran away.

"A high level of soot from vehicle traffic and/or industrial activity was also found on her [Buckskin Girl's] clothing suggesting that she spent a significant amount of time in an urban area within the Northeastern region or possibly from hitchhiking." http://fox61.com/2016/04/29/new-tes...io-in-1981-could-be-missing-from-connecticut/

And depending, it could have been a while before Denise was reported missing. Or, maybe someone thought she left without telling anyone, and reported her as a missing person much later. So she could have gone missing before November 1981.

I could be far off, I'm new as web sleuthing. But I hope this helps.
