I wonder why she was barefoot wearing heavy jeans and turtleneck plus leather pullover. It still can be chilly in April here. Today it is in 50s. Her feet were noted as clean also. Not too many women doing heavy farm/agricultural and loading type work then either unless maybe she was raised that way. It does fit with her fitness level. She also must have had good dental care most of her life with the condition of her teeth noted. I grew up in the 50s and 60s in solid middle class family and attention to dental care wasn't what it is today. No dental insurance and was a squeeze for most families we knew to pay for extensive dental care. Her very good hygiene too. Some if that doesn't fit with lots of time on the road and a life of hard physical labor. But this girl doesn't seem to fit a lot of the norms of the day which could be why she hasn't been identified. It is hard to imagine someone at some point wasn't looking for her. No older than she was it seems she may have been raised from a young age with good health and hygiene habits and in a family with comfortable income.

I kinda live near Troy...is there any documents etc. you think I could search down? I was thinking of getting a look at a 1981 map of the area. Anyone with ideas, I could perhaps find some free time and do something!!
I wonder if LE would let someone view the entire file on her or if there is evidence they still hold back after all this time. There is,a detective on this case still.

You bring up some really good points and it makes me wonder if she could have been killed for her shoes? Maybe she was wearing an expensive pair of cowboy boots?

Anything is possible.
There is a thread about the Ohio Trucker serial killer who operated in this time frame. BSG is even mentioned as a possible prostitute victim. I do *not* believe she was a prostitute. If she was murdered by the same serial killer, I don't believe it was a "transaction" gone bad.

I'm going to continue on this theory of farm worker/truck traveler/loader and see where I end up.

Yes maybe easily identifiable as expensive. Or could have helped identify her in some way. 1970s and 80s expensive Dingos Fryes and various cowboy boot brands very popular. Also have seen them monogrammed. Would fit with her clothing

What about the gashes on her head. THe one L shaped gash by her hairline was caused by what?

  • #2,427
I'm not thinking she's a farm girl or farm laborer. I'm more inclined to her being a hitch-hiker. Maybe her killer collected shoes. My guess is the gash on her head came from a tool truckers use on their tires. I forget the name of it. I think it's called a truckers friend.

Maybe you could look some of those old 'Trucker's Friend' tools up and see if any of the marks on them match the ones on BSG. I looked for a while today, but could not find any TF tools from the 1970's.

I've been wondering this for some time. Whenever the question goes out to the board, most people reply that it's it's some kind of automotive/truck tool. The problem is that despite looking at nearly every vintage (1950's-1980's) auto and truck tool I could find, none have marks that match those of BSG's head. I go to antique malls and antique flea markets a lot , and I even look there too! Whatever tool it was, it was not heavy enough to knock her out on the first blow, let alone kill her. The ME report states that these marks were on her head and her neck - so she was struck over and over with it. That makes me think it had to be lighter than a standard hammer. I was thinking some kind of hand-use farm tool, but I grew up in Chicago, so I'm clueless in that regard. Your thoughts? BTW, I am BSG's age, an grew up at the same time: I had excellent teeth, but it required many trips to the dentist to maintain them that way, and my parents paid a fortune for it. My dad made decent money (Middle-Class), but there was no way I could ever have afforded a buckskin jacket like hers! I can also say I was definitely not as clean - this makes me think she had money or came from money. Money is always a good motive to look at in cases like these, no? Especially back before ATM's - you'd carry your stash with you! I wonder if there were any robberies in the area in which she was found back then.

Great thoughts! Maybe she was a runaway from Florida. I-75 runs straight from Florida to Ohio and beyond.

A hitchhiker would normally be a first thought, but the description said she had excellent personal hygeine and was "remarkably fit". That doesn't coincide with a hitchhiker to me. But who knows.

I am guessing that Buckskin jacket was her prize possesion

I'm wondering if it was some hand tool used in argriculture; in the fields. I need to investigate that

People hitched rides all the time in the 70's and early 80's. It wouldn't necessarily imply a transient lifestyle, just the need to get from one place to another.

I wonder if she was carrying around a lot of money. Maybe her she got out her money to pay her last ride and the person decided to Rob and then dumped her.

I've been wanting to show her picture to my farmer spouse, but I don't want to put up with the whiny websleuths cracks and sideways looks.

Lol, at first i thought that was a typo and you wanted to show the pic to your former spouse, duh - you are the farmer's wife, cool!

ETA, or the farmer's husband, or a farmer too!

I think that's why I believe there may have had a military connection - and may have something to do with a base or a training camp - good teeth, good hygiene, fit, hair retrained (even if she worked in with food, dental, nursing, transport). Im not sure why she wouldn't be missed though - maybe family or girlfriend connection.
There are camps which connect along those highways in OH.
I'll keep looking :)

The jacket might have been a prized gift. Years ago I had a casual friend who refused to stop wearing a literally tattered leather jacket that belonged to her uncle in Oregon (the guy was a junkie, go figure.) I even offered to lend money to this person to get a new jacket & she REFUSED.

Just an anecdote....but I can also say that the "gypsy" lifestyle can wear on a person's emotions to where having a prized jacket or trinkets are crucial for emotional health. (One old friend kind of made fun of me for being so interested in petting her dog- because I had been on the road for months & hadn't seen MY dog. I was definitely feeling fragile.)

Back to BG....IMO keep circulating her pic. I have been thinking that the likelyhood of her killer being young enough to be anxious about getting found out is keeping her anonymous. Maybe he/they have been calling around threatening people...or have in the past. Plenty of cases go unsolved because people are literally terrified for their lives & not going to risk everything for a very uncertain verdict in court.
