GUILTY OH - Wynter Parker, 2, found dead on porch in freezing weather, Akron, 2 Feb 2018

Was FURIOUS when I recently read about dogs and puppies found frozen to death on porches, and now a child? I'm just completely stunned

Someone should have been watching this child. It's my opinion that you do NOT sleep when you're in charge of watching a 2 year old. If a parent works a night shift and needs to sleep during the day, then someone else should have been watching her. I don't care if that's an unpopular opinion. This could have been prevented.

And it sounds like this wasn't a one time thing. It was a pattern. The parents should be charged, IMO.

I agree with your unpopular opinion. The mother took the 4yr old with her--if the father needed to sleep, why didn't she also take the 2 yr old along? If what the neighbor is saying is true, and she had to bring the child home 3 or 4 times in the past and she had even called the police about this happening, this really stinks.

I find it really strange that she found the child at 3:30 in the afternoon. None of the neighbors saw her, no one heard her, no one driving by saw her? In the darkness of the night it would seem more plausible but in daylight in the middle of the afternoon? Strange.

Very strange that they aren't releasing it.

What a beautiful little girl.

Is it odd that the GoFundMe that the mother set up has only been up for 2 days and is about 1/2 way to reaching the goal, but now no longer is accepting donations?

Why am I not surprised that the children have been seen outside alone before? I mean..maybe the boy is much older and can watch the 2 year old but somehow I doubt it. I am so angry. Yet another preventable death.
Its said that most deaths that occur with children 5 and under is do to parental negligence.
They have idiots for parents.

We were talking in another thread how there are just some things in life that you absolutely cannot make a mistake on. Gun safety, Leaving kids in hot cars, and Letting a child wander out in freezing cold temperatures all fall into that category.

Everyone should know that a mistake of that nature is likely to cause serious injury or DEATH. So you just cannot allow it to happen. Do whatever it takes to never let it happen.

This was avoidable and its inexcusable.

Absolutely agree with you. I wonder where exactly the child was found. The article mentioned on the front porch of her apartment building. Is that a private deck that is accessible from the inside of the apartment? Or a community access porch? One thing that is a big concern in winter is a door which can be opened from the inside, but if a child gets out, the door automatically locks behind her.

You bring up a good point.

Just trying to figure out how a 2yo could not only exit the apartment, but the building. Usually main entrance doors to buildings take a little "umph" to push open and might even involve turning a handle, which would likely be out of reach for a toddler.

I think it's possible for some kids to be escape artists. But there's a difference between your child getting out once...and then doing something about it. And your child repeatedly being unattended.

Police were called to the Willow Run Apartments in Ellet about 3:30 p.m. Friday after the mother discovered the girl, 2, on the porch. Temperatures in Akron on Friday ranged between 12 and 19 degrees. The toddler was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where she later died. Police are withholding the girl’s name until her family can be notified.

Looks like the apartments were side by side, not a big building with a main entrance.

This whole story is screwed up

  • THE MOTHER FOUND HER CORRECT? THE POLICE ARE WITHHOLDING THE GIRLS NAME UNTIL HER FAMILY CAN BE NOTIFIED?

I am sure they mean extended family. That way grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. hear it from the mother or someone else before seeing it on t.v.

Oh how I hope they are punished severely for allowing this child to freeze to death!
