I spoke with Deputy U.S. Marshal Arthur Templeton this morning, and he told me he was processing a crime scene in Norman, Oklahoma where it appears the bodies of Lester Hobbs and Aja Johnson have beenlocated. The vehicle Hobbs was driving was found in a very rural area, off Southeast 108 Street and Highway 9. Templeton says a surveyor was doing a survey of property in the area when he spotted the vehicle. He went up to the car, saw the bodies, and called police.
A law enforcement source on the ground told me because of the decomposition that Hobbs and Aja most likely died about a week after the initial murder of Tonya Hobbs in January. “He got in that area, probably to lay low for a few days, got in there with the storm and maybe got trapped. One thing led to another, couldn’t get the vehicle out, and would have to walk out on foot… he chose to stay.” My source says Aja’s body was found outside the vehicle and Hobbs was found inside the car. At this point, it appears to be a murder-suicide. Hobbs’ body wasn’t as badly decomposed because he wasn’t exposed to the elements. We are still waiting for the Medical Examiner to confirm the bodies and how they died.
Over the last couple months, Deputy U.S. Marshal Templeton says they’ve had a lot of Lester look-a-likes, “five I can think of off the top of my head. We tracked down and found those people, but it just wasn’t the guy.” I also asked about the murder weapons used to kill Tonya Hobbs, and Templeton says the hammer used to hit Tonya in the head was found at the crime scene, and it appears they found the knife that was used to stab her in the car Hobbs was driving.
I also learned that Hobbs wrote a note. A law enforcement source says, “not technically a suicide note, mainly it was blaming Tonya’s mother and sister for the problems with him and Tonya. It was blaming everyone else for his wrongs in life. It was one last shot at making someone feel badly about himself.” My source believes the note was written over a day or two due to the change in handwritings. I also learned that Hobbs had notes all over his trailer. He would often just write things down when they came to mind.

See, I had heard a resident found the car, saw the bodies and called LE.

Whatever the case might be, it is in the best interests of LE to claim that Aja and Hobbs died soon after the murder and kidnapping. So one can bet that's just what they'll do.

i was so sad to read this today...in the back of my mind, there is always still that little bit of hope. i feel so terrible, especially for her father. even though this wasn't his fault, he will always live with guilt of letting her go with her mother to what he thought was an innocent birthday party. i wish there would have been a bigger and better effort to find her, even though it may not have saved her.

See, I had heard a resident found the car, saw the bodies and called LE.

Sometimes reporting is bad. Sometimes, it's intentionally misleading. Sometimes 'residents' or 'surveyors' or what not are not what they appear as presented as in the media.

It doesn't matter, I don't think, who found them. Aja is at peace now, and hopefully at some point, all who loved her will begin to heal.

Peace now, baby girl.

Neighbors: We Told Police Where The Car Was - Video:

http://www.koco.com/video/22995331/index.html

After all the initial mistakes OK LE made - we, here at WS, felt Aja could very well be alive - lack of initiative, wrong amber alert, wrong name, wrong, wrong, wrong! And they weren't searching. Than we read LE were stumped and were sitting around praying for Aja. Praying??? Nice to pray but how about getting off the chair and searching for the meanest, cruelest, most heartless man ever.

There were people right here at WS who called in tips and NEVER heard back - not a word. Now we learn neighbors called in tips and they were told - not enough manpower? So where was the FBI, the helicopters, the roadblocks, the urgency? This is what we were all asking long time ago and with good reason. MOO mho

I am heartbroken - in my opinion, with decent police work in the beginning, Aja's death just might have been prevented. moo

I believe the media reports of the discovery started as "citizen" and then changed to "resident" somewhere along the way. IMO, "citizen" could be just about anyone from anywhere who isn't LE, doing any of a number of things out there, whereas I think "resident" implies a citizen who actually lives nearby. Not really interchangeable.

Good old media!

The only thing we seem to know for sure is that LE didn't find her. I don't suppose it matters beyond that, unless the person who discovered them wants to be known.

Makes it even more heart breaking. Let's protect the next child from the same apathy.

It will be interesting to see what the ME has to say. There was some possible evidence indicating that Hobbs was still alive in mid-February.

I'm one of the people who called in a tip and heard nothing in response. Still, in the end, I have a hard time blaming LE for this one. There are certainly things that could have been done better... and I personally think they were around in hiding for a few weeks after TH's murder, so maybe that extra push would have brought them in... but in the end, in this case, the key to preventing Aja's death rested squarely at home.

Sometimes evil lies in wait and then strikes the innocent unexpectedly. This is not one of those cases. We have got to take personal responsibility for ourselves and our children. Relying on government to take care of what we should be guarding ourselves rarely results in a happy ending for anybody.

Normally, I would agree with you - here is a link showing 'part' of his criminal record! Lester should never have been walking around a free man. He terrorizes those around him for control. moo

Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - OK OK - (Amber Alert) 7 yr. old Aja Johnson abducted from Geronimo 1/24/10

Virtually every safeguard in place that protects a child, including family, failed little Aja. Even in the end she was failed with the idea there wasn't enough manpower to check on a car. Sorry - there are many faults to go around. moo

Here is the gentleman that found the car.

http://www.koco.com/video/23002987/index.html

Bless him. I can't even imagine finding something like that.

Also bless him for knowing about Aja, and LE looking for her and the car. So many people just ignore these things. We here at WS know about so many and could probably name a large number of kids and cars we keep an eye out for. But sadly, most people don't have a clue. Or they forget about it a few days after the initial alert.

With this news about possibly getting stuck in the storm, and no weapon found, anyone think that they may have died from exposure? I personally don't think that's how it went down, but I guess it's possible.

That's a real possibility Idaho - especially when you hear that Hobbs was inside the car and little Aja was outside on the ground. :furious:

I thought about exposure. I fear that he killed himself and little Aja just had nowhere to go. I thought about a lot of things. As if killing her mother and taking her from the rest of her family wasn't enough. I am nothing but angry and incredibly sad that he couldn't just drop her off at the nearest store then crawl somewhere himself and die.

Sorry, I'm chiming in a day late and a buck short, but I think if she was out of the car and he was in it, that it's a sign he killed her a little bit before he killed himself. He likely just didn't want to look at her after, so he moved her out of the car, found that no better, and covered her with the blanket (if there was one, too many articles, too little time). Then, after a couple hours when he got the guts to end his own sorry life, he took himself out.

sarx I understand. We searched so many grids I cannot even begin to describe. Grids that would have taken locals little time and effort in their own vacinities.
Also- news reporting on ' resident findings' may not be 100% accurate, KWIM?

Thanks for helping in getting the word out.
I know you understand- we are just...broken.

Oriah and JTSYS

I know what you are going through right now, you are lucky to have each other to understand and comfort each other. Just remember, that you did everything in your power and gave your heart for this dear child. Sadly we can't find them all.

I have no doubt that the news is probably not accurate, that generally goes without saying. I do however hope that if someone who was out there searching for her (like yourself) did find her that it will come out and be made public. People need to know that there are so many out there besides LE that can help.

Rest, take care of yourself and let the body and spirit heal.
