GUILTY OK - Christopher Lane, 22, Australian, slain in thrill killing, Duncan, 16 Aug 2013

Did something happen to James prior to him turning into a little 🤬🤬🤬🤬? I know I read his mom is or was in jail? Could that be it? Or did somebody die? What happened for this kid to go off the deep end and make such bad choices?

Possible catalyst (NOT excuse) -- in the video of his cousin (I think - youngish black woman wearing glasses) she said he could not return to Duncan this year because of something he did off school grounds and also couldn't get in to a few other schools in surrounding areas. She didn't say why he couldn't get in to the other schools that I recall. Presumably because they're outside his district, are full and/or because of what he did to get kicked out of Duncan High.

Josh Earnest, principal deputy White House press secretary, said he was not familiar with the murder of Australian jogger Chris Lane during WednesdayÂ’s White House briefing.

When asked by Fox News chief White House correspondent Ed Henry about the Chris Lane case, Earnest responded, “I’m not familiar with it, actually.”

So the principal deputy WH press secretary wants us to believe he lives under a rock and doesn't read the newspaper? (sigh)

But his sister also said he was in trouble with the law for fighting and stuff, so maybe he couldn't return bc it endangered other students?

Did you notice that school started back from summer break the day after they killed Chris?

oh yeah, I'm sure whatever he did off school grounds was felt to be danger to the other students. And I'd bet he'd been in trouble ON school grounds a number of times as well. I'm sure they didn't kick him out of school lightly. I'm guessing whatever he was on probation for was the out of school incident and was more serious than fighting.

Yes, I did notice the school start date. I was going to comment that it's too bad he couldn't have made it back to school/wrestling, but then I saw the video that he'd been kicked out and wouldn't be returning anyway. Nothing to lose on that front and no friends to chill with in all those upcoming idle hours except other dropout criminals. That's why I think it was the possible catalyst.

With the hate agenda posted on everybody's social media, including the racist bigots that posted stuff on their FB & twitter pages after Chris Lane was killed, that's enough to keep everyone (that's posted anything hatefully derogatory regarding race and/or death) off of athletic teams, possibly even get them expelled from school. There are supposed to be strict anti bullying laws in place now, including bullying a murderer.

What was the "catalyst" for the other two, or the one(s) who beat the elderly veteran to death in Washington? I guess in SOME cases there always has to be a catalyst, an excuse.

Well, in my opinion, there is just plain evil.

The teen who went into Sandy Hook was a very sick person and was prepared to die in the process. These teens are not sick, not mentally ill. They are somewhat delusional thinking they could get away with it. They appear to be highly desensitized, or at least two of them. I'd say one is the leader and the other two just followed along. Who thinks to kill your friend because they won't join your gang? We've seen this type of personality in the courtrooms over the past few years. They are just evil. The families know what they are dealing with. They have to know that if they feel there is a problem with their child that there is somewhere they can go to get help before the child kills someone. I can't believe the family did not know that one of them had that potential. jmo

The Sandy Hook killer was not a teen, he was 20.

Until parents are held responsible for their kids, nothing will change. Until parents are held responsible for their part in valuing education, respecting adults, teachers and laws, nothing will change.

Appropriate behavior starts at home. Until the correct person is held responsible- instead of it always being someone else's fault and someone else's problem- nothing will change.

Parents need to model a strong work ethic- or the kids won't work either. People want to have as many kids as they want without consequences or restriction- and expect the rest of the country to be agreeable to paying for them in numerous ways.

You can have great teachers, great mentors, free lunch and free computers- if the home is corrupt- it corrupts everything.

Charity and programs need to be a hand up- not a hand out. Welfare was never supposed to be lived on for an extended period of time. In some families, there are 4 generations on welfare. People are not marrying and having more children to stay on the dole.

Personal Responsibility seems to be dead in some parts of this country. Entitlement seems to be the word of the decade.

Exactly! It starts at home.

If you saw my first "catalyst" post, you'll see I specifically distinguished a "catalyst" from and "excuse." I don't think it's inconsistent to identify a point in time when someone possibly crossed over from being redeemable to being irredeemable with holding that same person a million percent accountable for their actions. Which I do in this case. I don't know much about the other two since their social media was locked down pretty much right away. However, it seems that the shooter was on the same clear path, and probably even a little further down it if only because he was older. The only thing I know about the driver is that he has a pregnant teenaged girlfriend (that is from social media as well as msm) and that they all three have had some kind of contact with the policy (also from msm),jmo

Why does Obama or anyone in his administration have to comment on this case? The three killers have been arrested, charged, and will most definitely be convicted. He has to comment on every case because of Travyvon Martin? Well, Bill Clinton called Amber Hagerman's parents...Why didn't he call all the parents of murdered kids?

Plus, no one in the administration is going to make a comment without thinking it through first. It's completely possible that Earnest has missed the last day of updates on the case, or doesn't know the latest details, etc.

I think maybe because it has become an international incident and Ausies are calling for a boycott of USA.

He doesn't have to, of course. And everyone is free to draw their own conclusions about why he chose to in one case and not in the other. But I don't think this thread is the place for that discussion. jmo

eta: to clarify, I don't think the mods want us to discuss the political aspect of it in this case. Personally, I'd be happy to discuss it! lol

There's a difference though between Australian citizens saying they want to boycott and the Australian government actually carrying out a boycott on the US. I think it's best for the president to wait at least a month before commenting on any case because it gives a better idea of the significance of the case, where it stands, etc.

Mods, delete this if inappropriate, but it is what is being said in the comments everywhere. It is the elephant in the living room. We just had a national orgy of emotion over that tragedy in Fla....the out cry on one side was over "profiling." but we are "forbidden" because it might hurt someone....to talk about the crime statistics behind the fear. ...behind the so-called profiling.

This case and the poor elderly man beaten to death with flashlights...it is a continuation of the TM conversation. The President felt the need to weigh in then...but in this second half of the conversation, he chooses not to.

Take a look at this pic from 9 mos. ago. The one on the right with the news clipping is the youngest killer. I feel like I'm looking at the last moment that kid had a chance and I just wanna punch the two low lifes with him - especially the jacka** in the middle.

He had a chance before getting in that car than night and doing what he did, he always had a chance and a choice, now he will pay for his choice. IMO

Funny thing about Trayvon Martin, it started just as a small crime blotter in an newspaper. It blew after President Obama made a comment. Now, I wonder why Obama never weighed in about Shaniya Davis as it involved human trafficking.

Not when it's black on white.
Now that is not true IMO, whereas these juveniles were arrested within hours of the crime, GZ was allowed to walk away from the police station that night and until public outcry happened he was arrested over a month later. Therein lies the difference. IMO

It was ignored in the media for a few weeks, but it did become a huge national story before President Obama made his comment. The entire country knew who Trayvon was before Pres. Obama said his name.
