GUILTY OK - Christopher Lane, 22, Australian, slain in thrill killing, Duncan, 16 Aug 2013

I disagree with this. I think if you're 17, you're old enough to understand and appreciate the difference between right and wrong. And murdering another person in cold blood execution style is clearly wrong.

I also believe that when you hang out with criminal types, it rubs off on you. Unfortunately, it is true that "birds of the same feather flock together". While the three boys can't be guilty simply by the mere fact of association, the fact that all three were PHYSICALLY caught on video and seen to have shot an innocent young man in the back means they are all complicit in the murder. Plus, none of them stepped forward to confess the crime until they were caught by police. That in a cinch nails it for me that they knew what they did was wrong, that they were cruel and held a depraved indifference to human life, and thought they could get away with it scot-free. I pray that they are all found guilty and throw them all in the slammer for the rest of their lives so that their prison sentence may act as a deterrent for other violent teens.

I think Jones tipped his hand when, upon learning that he could still face a lengthy sentence after having told LE what happened, he broke down and said something like "but I didn't pull the trigger." Showing his belief that participating in the murder but not being the actual shooter should somehow absolve him. jmo

jmo - ya gotta give people a break - jones did the right thing, he gave information, he cannot change the past, -this moment is all he can control- positive reinforcement. jmo

If Jones immediately went to the police, did ANYTHING but be a willing participant and hide evidence afterwards, I may take pity on him. Nope! He deserves what the others ones get! IMO - the lack of charges against Jones really bothers me and if he is not charged as an adult, being the oldest one with the vehicle, LE is doing a disservice to Christopher Lane!. Wasn't he going to be in the next murder? He obviously knew right from wrong and went along with it! Then, he waited until he was caught to get himself less charges. He's just as culpable as the one who pulled the trigger! :twocents:

It does seem wrong that the eldest is held least culpable. Best i can think of is that maybe his history suggests that he was otherwise a good kid, now running scared, being threatened like [the one whose father said his son was the next target - forgot the name] and didn't have a good father to protect and guide him.

Total speculation (aided by Jersey's research showing him missing from the other pics)... but seems it must be something like that, and added to the info he could give, I can see the DA making his charges lower than the other two.

In the Autumn Pasquale murder (killed by two teen brothers, both minors), didn't I hear that the younger brother was considered to have been the "leader"?

Yes; the older one had some type of disability

Cooperating is helpful when it comes time for sentencing. Calling someone out as a rat or any other name makes it sound as if the person cooperating is doing something wrong when the exact opposite is the case. Whatever his reasoning it shows he is taking responsibility for what he has done which puts him at risk for the remainder of the time he will serve in jail. jmo

Chris’ old baseball team in Australia are having a tribute game today at 2pm to honour Chris (Essendon v Melbourne University) ... black armbands, the national anthem, a minute’s silence, balloons.

It is good. People need some way to publicly honour Chris and release their feelings. This has happened so far away that we have had no roadside memorials or vigils.

I think that Chris has arrived home now, and the media are giving the family lots of space in their grief, as his girlfriend and his family will be at the game.

Obama has sent words of comfort (just heard on TV).

I was under the impression from earlier posts that they were from poverty and their parents were on welfare?

I didn't see any posts saying that---maybe I missed it?

Anyway, prayers for the WWII Vet's family. May they find grace and let the anger go.

Pics of their homes were posted in the media. Luna lived in a trailer and Edwards in a house. I don't remember seeing a pic of Jones' home. Neither large or particularly well kept, but I've seen much worse.

The photos on line at the Elm(something) apartments look like projects. But it seems that none of the defendants live there. They just hung out there with lilkadda and the like. I'd be surprised if none of the families were getting some kind of gov't assistance, but as someone else mentioned, that doesn't mean they were poor. Awful lot of benjamins in the pics, too. jmo

It’ll be okay between us.

The healing process has begun here, the anger is subsiding, the people of Duncan/police/emergency services have done all they can to help, the people of Duncan held a service on Friday evening for Chris – they are equally as rocked by this, Obama has expressed his condolences on behalf of the nation, money has poured in from all over the world to help bring Chris home, give him a fitting funeral, and set up a possible scholarship fund in his name.

We’re with you guys, as you are with us. This is freaking horrible for everyone.

Now let’s all make sure these 3 sick morons stay behind bars for as long as humanly possible!

I feel like the media has figured out that certain crimes = high ratings and page views. Casey Anthony, Jodi Arias, GZ. Trial coverage is big bucks. I feel like they're always looking for the next Nancy Grace sensation.

The media is driven by what the general public want to see and hear about. They thrive on what the people are interested in. The trials mentioned above are what people were interested in. If we paid no attention then they would not report on it. jmo
