I guess the fact that it's been so long, and if someone saw him that first day or two, would they remember him? I think only if he was doing something odd.

*respectfully snipped*

True, time has passed. The only things I can suggest would be that his car is somewhat unusual, and he has a somewhat unusual appearance (long hair). He also has other discernible characteristics (wears glasses - discernible, obviously not unusual). And maybe one gas attendant might have spotted his thumbnail. Or the attendant in the shop, when he went to pay?

SBM -

I paid an extra $30 when I renewed my license, filled out one extra form, and walked away with an Enhanced DL instead of a regular one (oh wait, I must have misspoken last night - I bet I said that you don't need a passport and that you can cross just with a REGULAR driver's license, didn't I? Now I see where this line of conversation came from, I'm sorry! Silly me. Of course it must be Enhanced. Well, I'll leave the rest of my post anyhow).

The only use for an Enhanced DL is land border crossings. I hope I wasn't gipped by the DMV. It sure was a lot cheaper and less hassle than applying for a passport, which I don't think I'll ever need since I've never left the country anyway and probably never will. But this way I can at least take a cruise to the US Virgin Islands or land cross into Canada and back... unless something has changed.

The DMV? Gyp someone? Nah?! (Snort!)

I wonder how long he has lived at his present address. Maybe that would account for JJ never being there.

I do think the timing of his disappearance is odd...the week before his girlfriend and her baby move in? I'm hoping he just got cold feet, packed up his cat, and took off voluntarily. JMO

I also wonder about Gypsy, the mysterious cat, if someone had a key to the apartment and was feeding Gypsy during the duration of Daryn's New York trip, and Gypsy just stayed in the apartment during that time.
I also wonder if someone Stayed in the apartment during Daryn's New York trip and took care of Gypsy, water, food, cleaning of cat box and (non existent?) cat carrier??
Just some thoughts......In My Opinion.....

I'd be really interested to hear first hand from someone who knows Daryn well (maybe when his girlfriend starts posting on here) about some of his personal characteristics. Was he an anxious sort of person? A worrier? Prone to spells of depression? Or is the idea of a planned disappearance just totally unfathomable in relation to him as a person?

For example, one of my close friends at boarding school needed a lot of space. She'd often spend the weekends out walking the school grounds just thinking to herself whilst the rest of us put our feet up, chatted, watched films etc. If she went missing for an extended period of time I wouldn't be as concerned as if another of my friends went missing because it wouldn't be out of her character or something that instantly suggested she was in danger.

So any description of Daryn to that sort of effect could really help us I think!

Right, I understand where you are coming from, but Daryn's Immediate family is worried, so to me, that tells me, that this is Unusual for Daryn, or atleast unusual since it has been several weeks now, with no contact to the family, or to others that we are aware of...... In My Opinion..... (And I don't know Daryn and I understand you wanted to know from people that know him)

But I think you would, as family, worry whatever that person was prone to. I don't think his girlfriend is just playing devil's advocate by suggesting she feels it could be a planned disappearance.

I understand the frustration being expressed. Believe me, those of us who have spent 20...even 24 hours a day straight for days on end dealing with the case feel it cubed. I wish I had a log of the total hours spent...not just posting but researching, calling, mapping, monitoring, confabbing, hand-holding, info imparting...you name it, it's probably being done. The total hours would no doubt shock even the most hardworking WS members, I bet. And then I wish I had a place to present that log so those hard workers could be paid for their time, reimbursed for the fast food meals they've consumed, and supplied with secretarial and maid service to do all the things that need doing in their personal lives that have gone undone while they are working this case. But you know what? They probably wouldn't take the money. Because for them, this is a love gift.

Yes, a number of people here at WS are going above and beyond to do a lot of things. They just don't always get splashed all over the board. :) In fact, I'm guessing more people have spent more time devoted to this case than they've ever devoted to any case before.

Trust me...my nephew will text me as soon as they are notified of anything. And then trust me...I'll about break my neck getting on here to tell ya'll. You should have seen me when I got the text about the car being found and I was out of pocket and unable to log on to WS remotely. Just ask my son. I almost had a TIA. And I'm not kiddin'.

As for what the family is doing...besides being sick to death with worry, they are doing quite a bit. Unfortunately, they have also chosen to trust some people that are just untrustworthy to take on some very important tasks. We are working to remedy that. But just because, other than me via my extended branch of Daryn's family, we don't see family here does not mean they aren't doing. And frankly, I do not think anyone in his immediate family needs to be directly involved with this board. Because over here we mean business. And sometimes that means saying some things that might be distressing and upsetting for immediate family members to think about.

*****There are several projects that anyone who wants to work is welcome to join. And *most* of you know the procedure for getting in contact with the people who can get you started on these projects. It's not a secret backdoor into the place...it's the usual normal way of finding out about these things. If ya'll get my drift.*****

Looking at the map of where his car was found...looks like a good place to meet someone and maybe head to Portland. JMO

What's the deal about a front license plate? We don't have them in OK  So if one was in the car, it was from the back. I wonder if he took it off while driving. Weird.

Spent some time searching furry sites and I kinda get the feeling that even if someone knew where he was, they wouldn't "rat him out". JMO

I didn't know Daryn well but I did speak with him on a daily basis. He was kind of quiet and if a question about his personal life came up he would be very vague in his answers. Example... When asked if he did anything fun over the weekend he would just say he got together with friends. I know his size has been mentioned in earlier posts, but Daryn had a real gental demeanor about him. Not intimidating at all. And to clarify his nails on both hands were filed yo points

Nothing to offer on the license plate front as all cars over here have a front and a back plate. Couldn't even begin to take guesses!

But the BBBM...I totally agree with you. I do believe this was planned and I totally do think it has something to do with the furry angle. I'm betting anyone who does or did know what Daryn was/is planning wouldn't let up, at least not on furry sites.

Thanks Munkee. That seems to fit in with how I imagined him.

I'm guessing the answer to this is a big fat 'yes' but I just want a confirmation...

Would whoever drove the car from OK to OR have HAD to fill up gas in OR? As in, was the location of the car sufficiently far enough into the state that he would definitively had to have filled up gas in OR?

If that's the case, we need to get canvassing some gas stations!

ETA: probably a super dumb question. Please don't forget I live on a tiny island and I could drive probably half the length of the country on one tank of gas!! :)

ETA again: GGE...I THINK that we have no trace of any bank account activity since the disappearance. But there are murmurs on the FB page that he had been withdrawing large amounts at a time over the past couple of months (please take that with a pinch of salt...and mods please remove if that violates anything!! :))

Just bouncing off your post, Gracie. If by the time some of us get through with our other assigned tasks the gas stations have not been canvassed, then we will proceed to get the word out ourselves. OR if there are any members here with the reputation for following through with huge tasks that aren't already up to their arses in alligators and want to volunteer to coordinate that effort....step forward! Otherwise, we can only do so many tasks at once, and canvassing gas stations would best be done by LE who could actually view any possible video and obtain it for the investigation. The best we can do is call and email and provide posters. It is not the job of this membership to do every task, but we are more than willing to do whatever we can. And we are working our fingers to the bone to do whatever we can.

And folks remember: If you're not a part of the solution....you're adding to the problem. Think about that. This comment is not aimed at anyone in particular by any means. But if the ole cyber shoe fits.....

Another thing is Oregon has cameras similar to the ones at intersections on traffic lights. They are set up near the weigh stations on the highway to ensure that semis dont ignore the scales. Every vehicle triggers them. Somewhere there is a picture of Daryns car and more than likely its occupant.

Mytee, for the sake of a transatlantic phone bill, I can't offer to call anywhere but I absolutely can offer to send as many e-mails as I possibly can manage! Let me know.

ETA: That being said I am fairly out of action from tomorrow afternoon until Sunday night. Going to my Graduation Ball. :) If we have heard nothing else from LE on that front by Sunday night, I can start then perhaps?

We just have to hope LE is on to this kind of thing! :please:

Sorry for being snippy -- :peace: -- especially if you're going to lavishly and undeservedly praise me. :blushing:

I'm frustrated, too, with this case, but it's more because of the inconsistent information than with lack of information. I've got a feeling LE is checking all kinds of things which we just aren't in the loop. Much of what we know was on the facebook page but isn't on there now. For instance, at least one of Daryn's friends posted that she has seen his cat many times. I don't think that's there now. I guess you can't be expected to read things that no longer exist. :crystalball:

BBM

Lots of disappearing/morphing info in this case, yes. We've had to waste so many (wo)man hours verifying information and correcting erroneous information that it's not funny. I don't think I've ever seen "key" players "in the know" change stories as fast as one changes fursuits like there's been in this case, IMO.

To use literary parlance, this case would at times seem to be being told by an unreliable narrator.
