I was wondering the same thing about why they would stop at Porum. I was also wondering if there was any reason they chose to go through Porum. There a a few different routes they could have used about the same in distance/time.

Going by way of Porum seems like the long way.

If their house was actually in Eufuala it would be the long way. If their house was out a little bit it might have been about the same. If you know exactly where their house was you could look at a map and see. Going from Wilburton to Eufala I always went down highway 2, through Quinton onto highway 71 and then onto highway 9 through Longtown. Do you think the Jamisons had some kind of business in Porum?

Btw I don't think that Phrogy's is actually in Porum but down on Texanna RD by the water. I guess the post office address would be Porum.

$27.41= nine gallons of gas
$31.85= ten gallons of gas

Top off of partial tank of gas? or two five gallon gas cans?

I drive a truck like theirs .. A 1997 GMC 4 wheel drive , they came with the 5.7 liter vortec engine that year and are not easy on gas. Also the truck isnt really small but compared to the new huge trucks they make it might look that way. Not like a ford ranger or mazda small.

If I put in 30 in gas I would expect to be drining no more the 45 miles to and then the return trip on the highway. Local mountain roads.. I would cut it in half and say 45 both ways unless I was topping off which would explain the change part of the total.

I actualy joke and tell people it cost 7 dollars just to start it.

How much gas was in the truck when it was found?

Good Idea on the waitress Oriah.

You and me alike, Soul.

And the BBM, to which I have gotten three answers to:
A 'mostly full tank.' An 'approximate third' of a tank. And 'we didn't check that at the time. So no clue.'

Helpful, huh?
I tried to zoom in on the odometer in the initial photos- can you see that, Soul? Trying to estimate mileage, and you are good with vehicles. ;)

10 gallons of gas in that truck would be 150 miles or so

About 60 miles to Red Oak from the long way thru Porum and Wilburton, 120 round trip, 30 more miles to Heavener and Middle Mountain. 150 total miles=10 gallons but 30 mlies missing for trip back to Red Oak

The only Sonic on their route would be the one at Wilburton (I used to work there) unless it was from the one at Eufala or somewhere else and they just left it in the truck.

I was told that they would get one of those route 44 drinks and when it was gone, they would wash and reuse thier cups. So, according to that, not much telling. They could've grabbed drinks in Eufaula at Sonic on thier way out or they could have been using cups from weeks before.

That's interesting, MELANAISE. Who told you that?
I know a lot of people who reuse plastic fast food cups...but the state of their truck when found doesn't seem to support that.

Anyway- perhaps it was used as an ashtray and had been there for sometime?

Speaking of ashtrays- do we have any diehard smokers here? If so, how far would you comfortably 'go' without a cigarette?

Sherilyn's son told me that during a phone conversation and NS cooberated it when I brought it up.

This diehard smoker will not go anywhere without my smokes!

I was able to see the gas was at just under 3/4's.

The ashtray in the truck is in a weird location so I guess the cup this would fix that. I couldnt do it , gross.. Going over the pictures again I still see no signs of a dog being in the truck for a week.

How old was maizy? I recently got a pup who is about 6 months now.I cannot leave him alone in a locked room with him finding something to tear up. Napkins.. That bag of popcorn on the dash would have been gone the cup in th ashtray straw out and chewed up the cup on the drivers side floorboard chewed into a million pieces.

I will also take a second to tell you about my dog. I got him at 3 months and have trained him to stay, sit ,high five ,both paws. roll over ,speak , walk on a leash , taught him to stay in the yard (he will not step onto pavement even to follow me unless leashed ). I house broke him and if I left him in a car stryo cups and paper he would behave as a dog, AND do doggie things. One of which would be chew that cooler all to hell. Those chips would have been being eyeballed the entire time I was in the car and the minute the dog couldnt see me.. well they would be gone . And I doubt they had Maizy dog trained as well as my Jack is now. Small dogs jump and a hungry Maizey would have got that bag.

So the state of the truck doesnt reflect a week long unwatched dog.
Reused fastfood cups.
A planned trip.

And it was topped up shortly before the trip to RedOak and should have had more gas in it that it does. They never made the return trip so the truck should have been slighty OVER 3/4 and not under . So it does appear there are 45 or so miles not accounted for ..if they topped off and etc..etc.. (to variable imo.)

So if they topped off both days and went red oak both days the first day would have been burned and then replaced so we can assume the gas useage based on what the two different totals were assuming both days trip were to the same area and the truck was full each time. I suspect that like my it actual holds gas way past where it says full and I actualy have a quarter more of a tank it If truely fill it in which case there could be an extra 100 miles reflected in that just under 3/4 of a tank sitting on the mountain.

Just thinking outland really. I am going to fill my truck up this week and watch exactly how much gas I use. It wont show us exactly but I think it might help.
I get better gas milage if I keep it past full ,so Bobby might of too.. Really we could ask the new owner of the truck about its gas usage couldnt we?
