Oriah - Ok, sorry, had pre-op testing and I got a bit frustrated having "lost" my last attempt to post my reply to you..so, here goes (again)!
My 1st reaction was, that's just crazy! However, upon further consideration..*shrugs*..I'll say this, and the following is JUST MY OPINION (I do not know the inner working of LE):
* EVIDENCE I UNDERSTAND LE RELEASING:
- TRUCK - they are so small of an agency, I can actually see that without evidence of an actual crime, that they released the vehicle to the next of kin )if that even happened that way), as they would have no where to store the vehicle. Even if they had, where would they securely keep it and for how long would they be required to do so, under what type of liability if it wasn't "maintained" in working condition. I know some/most ppl won't agree with me on this, but I can understand the "logic" behind the vehicle release. I may not think it was the "right" move, but at least there is a thread of common sense to it.
- KEYS - needed to drive the truck, so if they release the truck, duh..*chuckles*
- DOG - Maisy (or is it Maizy?)..Of course they would release the dog, as I'm sure they couldn't actually keep it at the station, and I sure wouldn't want local OK LE (or any other, no offense) left in charge of the care and feeding of a family's pet. It's just that I'm sure a pet (not their own) is not exactly a "priority" to any of them on a daily basis. Hence, someone had to take it. Unfortunately, I'm believe (just my thoughts) that is was probably give the dog to a relative/family member or send it to the pound (which I'm sure would have gone over fabulously with the public and media). Now, should they have first done all they could to collect any evidence on the dog, heck yeah!, do I believe that happened? H*77 No!
* EVIDENCE that should NOT have been RELEASED:
- MONEY - This one is tricky, with no proof of the "missing" family's demise, I feel that they should have maintained the money in evidence, as the true "owners" should have been required to pick it up in person. Lacking that and without a probate court order, it should not have been released to anyone. The actual physical cash serves LE no purpose other than:
--- Taking photos of it
--- Checking for Fingerprints
--- Recording the serial numbers
--- Checking with the banks associated with the found bank bags in the truck and/or the Jamisons known banks, in order to verify the amount given to the Jamisons. Along with checking to see if the cash was provided in sequential numbers, because if it was and if 1/2 the cash given to the Jamisons was missing from the amount found, then at least it would give LE a place to start tracing/tracking down someone who obviously had to have had contact with them at sometime within a day or so of their disappearance.
- CELL PHONES -craziness! There is no reason LE should have released those phone!
- ICE Report (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) - Again, would love for someone to explain this one to me, as in, why exactly there is one? (Other than hey, a person by the name of xyz, and description info. is missing from this area, please contact Mr. Xyz if sighted).
- ATF Report - not sure why there was one. That's Alcohol, Tabbacco, Firearms, and Explosives, so what's up with there being an ATF Report, as there was no Alochol, Tabbaco, Firearms or Explosives involved on this case. An unaccounted for firearm yes (ok, .22 Caliber SN# is

and reported to be owned by missing person), otherwise, what am I missing?
- TRUCK ITEMS - Stuff inside, papers, clothes, etc. should all have been kept and not released, period, (What LE dept. does that? Sounds crazy to me! I mean you hear about cold cases, and they then look at "evidence", like boxed up, in evidence bags evidence, not just photos!)
- Rx PILL BOTTLES - unquestionably the bottles and any contents
- CHIPS - (well, the BAG anyway! *rolls eyes*..I pretty positive they could do without the cheeses popcorn or whatever it was inside, don't wanna draw "rats" to the OK LE office now do we?)
QUESTIONABLE RELEASES:
- SAR Report - I could see the release of a limited amount of this information, as I would imagine that any search team coordinators would need some information to "go on". However, common sense tells me, give a SAR team a set of coordinates, a map with the area to search and that's it; then accumulate the resulting data and do NOT release that cumulative information from various searches to anyone.
That's my 2 cents if anyone cares to know it! Again, sorry it's taken me a bit to get back on this (and I'll answer Soul's "donation" question too) just had a busy day yesterday, and no feeling so grand today, apparently that fridge full of pre-op yogurt I bought yesterday does not like me, at all..ugh! I hate wasting money like that, that stuff is just too expensive (by the wasted fridge full)! Alrighty, so more later!
