Imo, there is a lot at play right now - kwim? Veterans Day is just one of the things at play - and could have played a role.

The jury must have been some adamant to convince the judge after so short a time to call a mistrial. Jmo.

There is the possibility imo, that one or more jurors were not going to convict no matter what - he is a former cop and that could have been all they needed to know - the facts were secondary. I base that strictly on reading posts on WS so jmo.

The problem with the pedestal is the bad cops walk regardless of facts. That's a problem imo - if a cop or former cop is on trial, they need to be looked at as a person and what actions they took - not LE. They are on trial as a person - not LE. Jmo.

The 2nd Trial was just about to start and the Defense is up to their old tricks and forced a delay again. Hopefully a short delay this time.

JMO
Its just a delay tactic for an honest mistake that the daughter was released some evidence of her boyfriend's possessions which included a baggy. The defense is trying to make it into something more than it aint.

Even if the baggy had residue of something it doesnt matter one bit because he was still unarmed and shot in cold blood in the middle of the street.

This case really bothers me because it is so obvious what happened here. We have a dad that flipped out and was mad her daughter was staying with a guy he didnt approve of. And the young boy was shot dead over it. End of story.

End except he almost killed his own daughter too and another relative of the boyfriend as he wildly shot many shots. Then he drives away and him and wife play hide the gun for a little while before turning it in.

Hope there are no more delays in this case after this one.

Lisa Kepler was firm on two points when she testified in her father’s murder retrial Monday: that Jeremey Lake wasn’t carrying a gun when her father fatally shot him and that allegations that Lake might have been on drugs at the time shouldn’t matter...

Lake’s younger brother, Michael Hamilton, was also among the six witnesses to testify on Monday, telling jurors that he saw a man he later learned was Shannon Kepler shoot Lake twice before he heard additional shots fired at him and at Lisa Kepler. Four other people told jurors what they saw in the immediate aftermath of the shooting and described how they believed Lake died before medical help arrived...

Tulsa County District Judge Sharon Holmes ruled on Thursday that Shannon Kepler’s attorneys can inform the jury that a Tulsa Police Department property room worker wrongly released some of Lake’s belongings, including a pocket knife and the bag, to Lisa Kepler on June 23, 2015.

The forensic pathologist who determined the cause of death for a 19-year-old shot in 2014 by former Tulsa Police Officer Shannon Kepler testified Tuesday in Kepler's second murder trial that the teenager died of gunshot wounds to the chest and neck...

She walked jurors through information on enlarged diagrams that showed areas of injury on Jeremey Lake's body. She told them the wounds he sustained were not survivable unless he had been able to receive surgery within minutes after being shot...

Shannon Kepler... said he shot Lake in self-defense after seeing that Lake had a gun. Multiple people, including neighbors and police, have testified that they did not see a gun on or near Lake.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A white former Oklahoma police officer was convicted of first-degree manslaughter late Wednesday in the off-duty fatal shooting of his daughter’s black boyfriend after jurors in three previous trials couldn’t decide whether to find him guilty of murder.

Jurors deliberated about six hours before finding ex-Tulsa officer Shannon Kepler, 57, guilty of the lesser charge in the August 2014 killing of 19-year-old Jeremey Lake, who had just started dating Kepler’s then-18-year-old daughter, Lisa.

The jury recommended a sentence of 15 years in prison.
