Guys - check out this story! It's related to a Maryland case that's up in the Crimes in the New forum.

http://www.news8.net/news/stories/0710/756939.html

PALMER PARK, Md. - The person of interest in the murders of five women in Prince George's County is a "serial killer" and likely "one of the most infamous criminals" in U.S. history, police Chief Roberto Hylton said Tuesday, expanding on what ABC 7 News was first to report.

Hylton says the man also travelled extensively to other states and he fears his trail of crime will grow as other jurisdictions look at their unsolved cases.

"This is going to be a serial criminal beyond our expectations and the number is going to be staggering," Hylton said.

If you look at his MO for the crimes for which they are preparing to charge him, it's very similar to this case. And the charges include making pornographic images of a minor female.

LE clearly knows more about this guy than they're saying now.

Fairy1, that's an interesting possible connection for sure. Any idea what brought his travel to other states? I'm curious if his work/hobby/desire to kill would have been something that brought him to this type of area in OK? Is he an outdoorsman? Into oil? Hmm....
Thanks!

I don't think this could be the guy. He's only 27 now, that would have made him 16 or 17 when the family was slaughtered and Lauria and Ashley went missing. Seems unlikely, but you never know.

They still haven't named him publicly but it sounds like this is going to be huge. The guy has two masters degrees and has studied forensics. He purposely changes his MO so LE can't profile him. He murdered several women in Maryland and is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges there. But they think he's killed others in Texas and Florida. There's a lot of land between FL & TX - including OK!

The authorities seem convinced that this guy will wind up being quite the serial killer when all is said and done.

I will keep an eye on that story, just in case. They say they will probably charge him in a month or so - they should be able to make public a lot more info then.

It does seem unlikely with him being so young. But it also wouldn't be the first time a teen killed another teen(s)...or whomever. Or a teen had an older adult, helping a teen become a murderer. :(

Doesn't hurt to watch the case for sure. And setting houses on fire, while not all that uncommon...bares watching, imo.

Maybe I'm just hoping for a new suspect in this case. :waitasec:

I will definitely keep watching. This is a bad guy with an extensive criminal record in Maryland - just since 2009. We shall see where he was hanging before then. He's 27 - he didn't just become a criminal a year ago.

Agreed. Similar to my thought about Kevin Underwood.
People just don't 'begin' committing heinous crimes without working up to it one way or another.

Hey ya'll...check out the thread on OK LE! Our random OK bones are actually going somewhere! Now if only we could find Ashley and Lauria.....

  • #190
Just keeping everyone posted. We're headed back to OK this weekend, going to repeat Twin Bridges and two locations W of 44- S of Miami, NE of Fairland.
Hope the weather holds......

A request folks, for anyone still checking this thread before we head out again....

Come on, I know it's an old and crazy case, but these girls are still out there, they have family, friends, and loved ones who want to find them!

Is anyone willing to email some online higher education schools and see if they'd be interested in having their forensic tech students volunteer some time to enter data into NAMUS? We'll hit up the ones with land-based campuses in OK.

The ones I can think of offhand....
AIU Online
DeVry
Kaplan
Ashworth
Strayer
Penn Foster

Please? I'm sure there are more and this is something folks can do from their computer at home.....

TIA.......

Quick update before I crash. We hit up three universities with requests to add data into Namus. Talked to an ME who had particular interest in Ashley and Lauria's case. That was refreshing.
Found 3 more bones, a rib and what looks like a piece of skull or possibly pelvis (?). All very old. Also, a very old backpack type bag full of very old and very dirty cloth diapers. Got pulled away after that for a live case and had to cut grid short.
I am tired of my job, lol.

I'll keep ya'll posted on what the forensics people say....

ETA: I forgot to add- the diapers made me wonder about the possibility of pregnancy in either girl.(Not that the diapers were related- just they made me think of babies.)
Does anyone have any links to any speculation of this? TIA.

Oriah & JTSYS, Wow...don't know how I've missed this one.

I was in touch with JTSYS last week on another case and he brought it to my attention. Like everyone, I was very discouraged after working on Aja's case. Looks like were having a shake up of sorts in the OSBI, and that has to be good.

I am reading up from the beginning, but just wanted to ask about the arrowhead collections. I am guessing they are vaulable and I have a friend that is a doctor here in town, McAlester, and besides his work, he and his wife have for years been traveling Oklahoma hunting and collecting them. I think he knows a lot on this subject. It is his passion.

If you think it could be productive, I will start running down that angle.

Oriah and JTSYS, I have also been invested in some recent cases and just wanted to tell you to keep your spirit. Also, my husband and I could see being involved in some searches in the future. Sorry it took me so long jump on.

(((hugs)))

ETA-And apparently a rare arrowhead collection was never recovered from the home after the fire, they were stored in glass shadow boxes around the home, as well as in various display cases.

Sorry, my edit function is being hinky...That was quoted in an article I read.

My time this week is going to be limited as my 82 year old dad is having a stent put in his heart Tuesday and will be at the hospital a lot.

There are a couple of other areas of interests I have concerning a request for a possible bondsperson, I may can help with, that have great pc skills.

Also, I may know someone that can help in and or near Ardmore-Duncan area.

I know, It's a lot of I know someone that may know someone, at this point..

My good Dr. may have published some papers on arrowhead collections...and he just bends my ear about it a lot.

I will try and get anchored and get down to business. We never know what piece of a puzzle will fit and I am just skimming the surface. If you have a particular point you want explored, let me know.

Just thinking... Lauria had a dental appointment scheduled for the following morning and planned to leave the trailer shortly beforehand. Anyone heard of a dentist that would possibly have xrays..Is that something we need to look at? I'm sure that has been looked into...just trying to get a grasp.

This case bothers me because of the circumstances these girls vanished under.
Some theories that I have heard are:
1. Whoever set the fire and killed the Freeman parents took the girls to keep for themselves.
2.Whoever set the fire and killed the Freeman parents took the girls elsewhere to harm them. I have noticed in many cases that the killers like to kill the adults at the home, but kill the kids elsewhere or separate the remains. I still don't understand it, but it's a common pattern in cases like this one. Would one guy be able to handle both the girls through, or was there more than one perp.?
3.This is one that I hate to say, but could be what happened: The girls committed the crime and took off. If anything, it's probable Lauria was dragged into the mess somehow, with either theory.
I do not think Lauria was meant to be there or targeted at all, I think the poor girl was just there at the wrong time. If authorities would come up with some kind of motive for someone to target the Freeman family, it'd be so much easier to discard excessive tips and theories.

Hi Sooner!
Yes I think you're right about the shakeup in the OSBI. ;)

Yes, Lauria has dentals- Ashley no. (Not that I've found anyway. There was the one dentist but they don't have any records for Ashley.)

The bondsperson info could be very useful-Oriah has a ton of thoughts on that, but is out in the field right now. I will try to track down the list of areas we've got gridded out to see who might fall into that territory, and be back to post.

Thanks!
JTSYS

Ok-following up on the bondsman thought- anyone know someone who knows someone, lol bondsman wise- along the I-44/ possibly 64 route? Where are the pockets of bondspeople out that way? From Broken Arrow, though Baxter Springs, to Pittsburg (KS).
TIA.

LOL yeah...I think I may think I may know someone near Broken Arrow...

My dad's heart surgery is set for tomorrow and I will be gone all day, but email me the details of what you are looking for.... I hope to do some research while he is having surgery.

I can shoot off some emails tonight.
