Found Deceased Olivia 5, Evelyn 8 & Paityn Decker 9, found dead, manhunt on for father, Travis Decker 32, wh 2017 GMC Sierra PU, Wenatchee, 30 May 2025 #2

6/11/25

He said the search will continue as they wait for Decker to make a mistake.

“He’s not going to be able to make a mistake, because all we need is one mistake and one day to go in our favor, and he’s going to be in our custody,” Morrison said. “So I hope he’s watching. I hope he knows that we haven’t given up.”

Oh my how sad. :( I really am curious if he was using some type of drugs to self-medicate in the final years. It sounds like he was fine and then he just was not. When his dad and him tried to go to the house to see if they could help him and talk to him, he was upset they came over unannounced. Sounds like they were close before, so this is very odd to me.
It is very sad, and sounds like the brother is saying that the changes occurred in the last three years.

The temps are probably closer to 98 during the day and 50s/60s at night. I was just over in Leavenworth/Chelan county over the weekend. I am curious how he is surviving without water because if he's truly hiking around, it is HOT during the day. I suppose he could be drinking from streams and rivers out there.

If he's in the Enchantments, then this is wouldn't be right. The elevation would make it much colder, and at this time of year much of it is still snow-covered. I learned that the hard way many years ago the first time I went, when we couldn't even get to Colchuck at the end of May without snowshoes, let alone into the Core Enchantments.

The thing is TD recognized he had issues and sought mental health intervention through the VA. He was put on a waiting list and did not have an advocate. We (in US and Canada) need to do more for our veterans. This includes but not limited to mental health, housing and financial guidance.
More money needs to be allotted to the VA.

And in both countries, I feel we need to address and modify the Amber Alert System. Hopefully, Whitney Decker will help in advocating for these changes in the future.

Edited to add: I am in no way sticking up for TD’s actions. But, had he received the help he requested, perhaps the scenario would have been different. :(

I posted about this in the other thread. VA funding has been slashed.

Another reason I'm in the "I think it was planned" camp.

[Travis] used Google search terms on May 26 related to moving from the U.S. to Canada.

"These Google searches included the following: 'how does a person move to canada', 'how to relocate to canada', 'jobs canada' and 'jobs canada'," U.S. Deputy Marshal Keegan Stanley wrote in the affidavit. "After the above-listed Google searches, he visited the site 'Find a job - Canada.ca'."

This may be a senseless question, given where things stand with this case and the search for Decker.

I keep wondering why Decker didn't take off in his truck and at least get some distance between the crime scene and a possible escape route, e.g. Canada or a different state, before any search for the girls would have been initiated? And now that we know he may be in the wild ill prepared for what he is up against (presuming the man seen by hikers and LE from the air is Decker), I wonder about this question even more.

The only thing I can come up with is that Decker must be in the midst of a psychotic episode and truly out of touch with reality or any logical or tactical thinking.

A psychotic episode is a period during which a person experiences a loss of contact with reality, often characterized by hallucinations, delusions, and/or disorganized thinking. WebMD.

Moo - I am not convinced that it was pre-planned. I wonder if his trip to the campground was in an effort to establish a home base so he could maintain some custody? But with the rebuffed offer to reconcile, and the girls becoming more emotional - things were slipping out of his control?

Again, just moo - but 9 is old enough to be very curious - and to listen intently to what is being said and done. She would likely resist suggestions that the future would be “different”… If she knew things… about why custody was set up the way it was.

Also - I want desperately to believe they were sedated and I am going to do everything in my power to hold that hope. I don’t want to know anything to the contrary.

Definitely agree with you both. I posted in the previous thread. Easier to copy forward to here.

OK, I'll probably get hit for asking this, but this guy has extensive military survival training. Why does our military offer such training? Sure seems to me that most military actions today are urban - use might be a leftover? Who decides who gets this training? What mental evaluations are given before such training?

We don't know how long TD had mental issues, but it's probable they were present for years.

Did he do this to hurt his ex as much as possible?

Will he wait until he has been cornered and when he realises there is no way out then kill himself?

My thoughts that this may have been his thought process and what may be the final outcome.
IIRC, TD said on the night he picked them up, “the only thing I have left are you and the girls”…

MOO - I hope peolple are taking precautions in case he believes he has one stone left to throw before he’s ready to check out.

I want to clear something up regarding narcissists as a few people that knew TD referred to him as being narcissistic. NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) is a valid mental health disorder. Some people when they think of someone being narcissistic, they think only of someone who is arrogant, has a superior attitude and thinks only of themselves. While this can be true, someone with NPD, can also have a low self image, self-esteem and regularly look for reassurance from others. (According to his squad mate, TD seemed to want that from his father who he looked up to). Also, sometimes people affected by NPD struggle with feelings of alienation, failure etc. and it can affect a person’s sense of self-esteem, belonging and how they treat others.

People also with NPD can become very angry and full of rage when they feel criticized. This can perhaps be witnessed with TD’s reaction with his brother and father’s attempted “intervention”. Moo

Some food for thought.

Really appreciate insights like this. I know legal stuff, and hiking stuff, but not that type of information. It's extremely insightful and valuable.

I recently moved out of the PNW but still feel like this area is my "home," so I have a particularly keen interest in this guy being found, which this type of information can be so useful in doing. The circumstances of this case continue to make me literally physically ill.

Awwww. It is a very horrific case! You probably know you are not alone in in feeling the way you do. Although, I understand or at least I think I might understand some of TD’s mental health issues and disorders and some of his behaviours, they aren’t an excuse for his actions. It is an understanding only. I feel for everyone involved.

I agree. I also posted in the other threads as well. There is a true diagnosis and there are narcissistic traits that get thrown around very loosely these days. We don't know if he had actual diagnoses of BPD or NPD. Those can take years to diagnose, many symptoms overlap with other disorders, and many other treatable mental health diagnoses can present similarly.
