‘On Monday, October 16, 2017, Brian Duncan died in Portland, Oregon of complications from a severe spinal cord injury suffered in an automobile collision while riding his bicycle the prior year.’

You could argue for that statement's being true in several scenarios. (Depression leading to suicide and impaired mobility/coordination leading to an accident could be considered complications of paraplegia.)
The way I look at it, the person who put him in the wheelchair killed him.
