L&C is going to be streaming for the rest of the trial

What't the point of the questions relating to "love of chickens"? How about the questions on the messiness in the garage? What about Thailand? Male friends?
I am following this trial on L&C, and it all seems very odd.....

Wow, listening to Karen Brophy (victim's mom).... she's so careful and thoughtful. Such a clear witness. Alert. I'm not sure the implications, but so careful.

This makes me so sad.

Does anyone know what criminal behavior is being referred to here?
DA: Novelist continues criminal behavior in custody

Unrelated: What does it mean if someone is not on the mortgage but is on the house deed? So, DB held the mortgage and the house deed. NB was not on the mortgage, but was recently put on the deed.

It means NB inherits the house but isn't liable for the mortgage? So she has the house debt-free? Maybe she gets the equity and none of the bills? Or?

Maybe the mortgage had an "insurance-type" clause for "pay off on death"? Otherwise, the bank would surely own the mortgaged percentage (unpaid balance) of the property.

This is like a living cozy mystery....

I found the livestream for the whole trial: https://www.youtube.com/c/KGWNews8/search?query=brophy

This is Trial Watching 101, easy to follow. Clear detail. Obvious perpetrator. Tapes!

PS I was right. She was owed the equity if she was on the deed and not the mortgage.

All this defense stuff on how NB bought insurance on herself....it's all irrelevant. The only insurance that matters in this case is actually DB's. So, defense is all smoke screen.

I used to be insurance qualified. The commission is VERY low for term policies unless there have been substantial changes over the last few years. So, this is ANOTHER smokescreen from the defense. NB was going to make very little selling all these policies on DB, despite the argument that she did it for the commissions.

Both of these smoke screens should be very easy for prosecution to nuke.

Question: did NB ever sell a life insurance policy to anyone else except to herself or writing DB as owner? Hmmm.... there doesn't seem to be that much evidence that she did.

I can't find day 2!!
Me neither... Someone else complained in the YouTube comments. Maybe they decided against livestreaming the whole thing, but re-decided and therefore resumed on Day 3.

More defense smokescreen: DB was always encouraging NB. Erm, This doesn't mean she didn't kill him.

I wanna know the commission on a Medicare policy. An expensive Medicare policy for a year is, like, $2400. The broker is not getting a whole lot for landing an account, as I calculate.... So, baloney that they knew they would be cruising financially and could afford to spend years building the business, 'cos they knew it would be coming in....

Now the defense attorney shows a Google view of the Brophys' lot and a neighbor's lot. She says the two lots are identical, so if the neighbor could divide into 3 parts, the Brophys could, too. This was the Brophys' financial plan. The Brophys' lot and the neighbor's lot actually are not identical, per the Google view. Not only that, the Brophys' lot was going to cost a FORTUNE to clean up; this makes the value not at all the same as the neighbor's.

Every moment of this defense opening statement is, like, baloney.

They were doing all this travel, while more than flat broke? Something wrong here.... I can't believe the defense is mentioning this. How much NB wanted to travel now she was into retirement.... My, my, she wanted to move to Portugal and travel all over Europe. Trips to HK, Thailand, cruises, "romantic weekends"... I wonder if she was planning to off him on a cruise or the romantic weekend, and backed off.

There's going to be testimony about a chastity belt.

I can't deal with any more of the defense opening statement—too easy to shoot holes in it—so I'm moving on to Day 3.

Thanks for you insight and updates. What an interesting case.

I ran off to Google to see what a chastity belt has to do with it. Evidently, very little. The defense wants to introduce other authors who’ve bought weird things, chastity belt, crossbow, to help with their research.

I agreed that disallowing her ‘how to murder your husband’ post was appropriate, but I’m not sure that allowing the defense’s chastity belt and crossbow witnesses IS appropriate. Sounds like a distracting circus—what do other people think?

She wrote an essay titled ‘How to Murder Your Husband’. A murder trial followed

Now I'm on the afternoon of Day 1. Students.... The poor things.

The chastity belt sounds totally irrelevant, but I want to hear about it. I would imagine the judge won't allow me to.

NB has destroyed these young people's lives. It's like the memory is etched on their brains.

I haven’t figured this out. How did ND get into the OCI building at that early time of day when only DB was there? I can’t figure it out. How could she guarantee that she could get in? If she couldn’t, her plan wouldn’t work. That’s a pretty big if. She’d have to depend on a door being open that wasn’t normally open.

She might have duplicated DB’s key without him knowing?

Is this defense attorney really trying to insinuate a homeless person was lying in wait in the walk-in fridge?

Maybe she knocked or called out saying she had brought him something (something he forgot? a packed lunch? a surprise?), and he let her in.

Maybe NB got in the roll-up door, and the reason it was open when the others arrived is that she didn’t close it behind her. Apparently, it was left open sometimes, but not always. So, it wasn’t remarkable, just a data point.
Evidently, there were a lot of doors she could have left by, just not a lot she could enter by.

Now, I’m watching Day 3. It seems defense is wanting to insinuate a homeless person was after the cooking alcohol and killed DB in the process.
There is going to be someone on any Portland jury, IMO, who will take offense at these attorneys trying to point the finger at a homeless person as though unhoused makes them susceptible to criminal activity, cravings for alcohol, sneaking around, hiding in nooks and crannies, lying in wait, surprising people for nefarious reasons, randomly shooting some going about their business. This is a dangerous defense in Portland IMO. Already, some of the witnesses aren’t having any of it: the prosecution is doing a good job of smartly nipping it in the bud. Weed whacking.

@RickshawFan - when you view Day 4 - could you let me know "who" the witnesses were? I've had problems with my speakers - so would appreciate it! TIA! :)
