GUILTY OR - Dan Brophy, fatally shot at Oregon Culinary Institute, 2 June 2018 *Wife Arrested*

Maybe she was just jealous that he had more fame and popularity than she did. And the insurance money was a nice bonus.
Yeah, I'm thinking she had some kind of intense feeling that made it vicious, just apart from the wish to kill. I mean, she looked at him face to face and shot him as he was dying from the first shot.
Perhaps she was even envious that he had those lovely parents? She wouldn't let them help her out after his death despite her charade of being innocent.

I also wonder if she tried other methods? She claimed he wasn't into anything except lying on the couch and watching sports for a whole year before he died. IMO she was either lying (there seems to be no corroboration it was a fact) or she was slipping him something in his drink.

This is NB's (auto) biography in AMZ:
Nancy Brophy is an award-winning author, whose first published work was a pamphlet for the University of Houston entitled Between Your Navel And Your Knees. The subject matter dealt with the changing mores of sexuality in the sixties and seventies. Much of her career has been focused on non-fiction with articles published in trade journals and technical writing for HR departments.

But her true love was story-telling. Eventually she wrote a novel which is still available somewhere under her bed.

In 2003, she joined her local chapter of Romance Writers of America and learned the craft of story writing. Since then she has published both romantic suspense novels and two novellas under her name and others.

Her stories are about pretty men and strong women, about families that don’t always work and about the joy of finding love and the difficulty of making it stay.

She must have written this herself. It sounds like her website. No sign of actual "award winning". She says she wrote non-fiction as a career: no evidence of that AFAIK.

I just have a feeling her whole life is a mirage, no one knew who she really was, and the shoe is about to drop in the trial. The prosecution seems to be picking away at lies.

In this vein, NB took the last name Brophy, even though she wasn't married to DB until shortly before his death.

Her reviews were likely written by club members and were reciprocated.

We've met this type of story so many times in WS IMO: where someone has invented a person for themselves that isn't real, and go criminal.

*****
IMO the prosecutor is well-chosen: he seems to be an EXTREMELY straight arrow, no fuss no muss. Just the facts... Very clear. Plain, plain, plain. Boring, almost. No flash. The defense talks like a ball of yarn, and evidently, they're going to throw in a morass of insurance agents to make their case. IMO this strategy is not going to be met with enthusiasm versus clarity, sympathetic witnesses, and evidence.
The only insurance that matters in this case is DB's. He had a lot. That NB also had insurance is irrelevant. She prolly kept it to disguise the fact she was going to kill him for his money.
The whole schtick about taking out insurance when DB was younger because it would cost more when he was older? Also irrelevant. And they couldn't afford it.

*****
I seem to have learned a lot about this case this weekend! I also happen to know a lot about insurance, life and health. At one time, I was licensed in Oregon....

Quote from NB. Consider that she hauled DB along on a cruise with her romance writers' club:
"The drawback is the police aren't stupid. They are looking at you first. So you have to be organised, ruthless and very clever. Husbands have disappeared from cruise ships before. Why not yours?"

No livestream today? Maybe after they've finished court for the day?

It's Portland so I thought they were just getting a late start. But nothing. I went back and watched the end of the trial from Thursday and the judge says... they are dark Friday but will be back Monday.

We had a surprise overnight snowstorm in the area that took out a lot of power, roads and closed a lot of schools and public buildings. Portland hasn't seen winter weather this late in the year for 80 years. It's a mess.

Courts were supposed to open at the usual time, but I haven't seen any of the local news sites broadcasting the trial so far today. Depending on where everyone lives, getting to the courthouse could have been a challenge this morning, with one major artery still shut down at noon due to fallen trees, with no estimated time of reopening.

Weather issues delayed the trial, today, DAY 5. Live link:

What the heck is the defense doing with some of these questions? Seriously, why do we need to know how many people worked in the biggest kitchen this witness ever worked in.... And a whole bunch of other irrelevant details, like camping before clam digging.

Back of my mind: defense is trying to pin this on a student or a homeless person.

For all NB said she was at high risk of dying from COVID and should be allowed to live "off campus" (aka un-incarcerated) in a guest house, she is now the only one without a mask in a courtroom that requires masks....

Another man bun!!!!!! Only in Oregon...

Why is Narcavich a necessary witness? Dunno how to spell his name. This is getting repetitive.

NB has a strong southern accent. I didn't expect that. So not Oregon....
Does anyone else think NB is a good liar? I actually think this taped contact with the Detective is very well acted. I can't really see any holes, except she says a lot and is very oriented as to time and place. I'd be bawling and very confused. Stunned. She's too together, but everyone handles bad news differently.... I don't see she reveals anything that indicates she's the perp.

Interesting that the 'Tec picks out how NB is great with the details and this got his attention. She has a whole story line with a lot of specific details. The Behavior Panel comments on this kind of thing (i.e. too much specific detail provided by perp at time of interview) in many of their videos.

The Behavior Panel talks about that kind of thing HERE.

NB says it took 4 1/2 years to persuade DB to marry her. Issue? They weren't in fact married until maybe a year before he died. That's a whole 'nother issue.

Does anyone think NB sounded a lot older on that tape than she is? To me, she sounded older than her mother-in-law who’s 85 or so. It’s that wavery trembly voice. I kept expecting her to shift to a 68 year-old voice, but she never did.

NB moves closer to the witness the moment cross begins, e.g. when the Detective is on the stand.

Yeah. She stares at the witnesses. I felt so sorry for the students who had to testify with her doing that. Surprising that her attorney hasn’t given her a talking to, but it might be that she doesn’t listen.

At the bail hearing a couple of years ago, prosecution alluded to crimes that NB was committing behind bars. Documents sealed. That might be an example where she doesn’t follow directions.

Me too, Niner! And I wish they would leave the romance out of the mysteries and thrillers. I don’t just dislike it, I find it repulsive. The half naked muscle men on Nancy’s covers practically scream 🤬🤬🤬🤬. MOO
And I wish that men wouldn't try to write murder mysteries! They just can't help but put in some sex and car chases, which turns it into a thriller. Please leave the proper murder mysteries to women! :)
