Resolved OR - Douglas Co, WhtMal 35-60, "Deported/The Dark Days" shirt, LEGEA soccer shorts, Backpack, Mar'18

Oh, I was on the portuguese Wikipedia page of the brand, they didn't have that many teams listed. Are those two big teams or more on the smaller side? I still think he's european though.

I am not sure. I have never heard of those teams but I'm not from New York or New Jersey. I found some websites for the teams:

https://www.facebook.com/SHstrikers/

Hackensack Strickers appears to be a children's soccer club-- so that one can probably be ruled out (unless he was a coach-- not sure if coaches would get promotional shorts from Legea?).

The New York team is more interesting:

https://www.liacnystars.com/

It says it is an Itailian- Ameriacn Soccer League. In the about section it says:

Lega Italo Americana Calcio (L.I.A.C.) is an Italian-American soccer club headquarted in Whitestone, New York. The club was founded in 1959 and continues to bring the beautiful game of soccer to youngsters across New York under the leadership of club president Charles Candela. L.I.A.C. New York is an official participant in the annual Viareggio Cup tournament.

The Viareggio Cup tournament is in Italy:
The Viareggio Cup is one of the world's most pretigious youth soccer tournaments held in the Tuscan city of Viareggio, Italy. The annual tournament which first began in 1949 is officially recognized by FIFA, UEFA, FIGC, and CONCACAF and includes clubs such as Juventus, AC Milan, Inter, AS Roma, Fiorentina, Napoli, Anderlecht, and PSV Eindhoven. The tournament has produced world class players such as Francesco Totti, Andrea Pirlo, Alessandro Del Piero, Roberto Baggio, Edinson Cavani, and Philipp Lahm.

As the only American team participating in the Viareggio Cup, L.I.A.C. New York offers an extraordinary opportunity for young American soccer players to pursue their dream of playing professionally. The tournament allows players to compete at the highest level of international soccer while providing a showcase for European scouts watching the various matches.

There is a big italian community in New York, right? I would ask around the italian communities if someone is missing.

Yes many Italians live in NY, but this could be someone who moved away from NY many years ago.

Putting all the info together:
Perhaps he played on the US League for the Viareggio Cup in Italy in about 2006 or 2007.
He might have been signed up by a talent scout for the Italian team that coffeeandcig found and played for them in Livorno 2008-2009 season (Where he would have gotten the Legea shorts).
8 to 10 years later he could have been anywhere-- he might have stopped playing soccer professionally and moved to Oregon or he might have been traveling through there. Since soccer would have been so long ago it may not be associated with his name as a missing person now.
This theory would put him on the lower end of the age range for the UID -- closer to 35 than 60. JMO.

I guess he would be around 35, yes. He could also be a italian that came to the US to play College soccer.

Great information claudianunes! Thank you!

I found this picture of a soccer shirt with matching shorts. It is exactly the pair that he was wearing, which is actually a very dark navy blue with red stripe. The shorts are from the "training uniform" for 2008-2009 season of AS Livorno calico from Livorno, Italy.

I'm going to go ahead and submit Anthony Manghelli https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/30011/0/ as a possible match. Fingers crossed...

Is there a roster of names of people who played the 2008-2009 season of AS Livorno Calico? Perhaps we can cross reference the list of players with missing person's reports? I would also be interested to know if there are any Americans or players who later moved to the US (Although we must be careful to not sleuth the players here or post their names-- if we find out one of them is reported missing that would be a big clue he could be the UID).

26 people on roster I found for 2008-2009 AS Livorno calico...will take a while.

Did more research on MP Anthony Manghelli. He certainly had the means to go to Italy frequently, having lived in areas of California like Simi Valley and Calabasas. Not much family associated with him other than what appears to be an ex-wife and possibly a daughter. Will let you know when or if I get a response to submittal.

PS... The only American on the soccer team from 2008/2009 is still playing for the club as recently as May 5th 2018.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help locating a reported missing person. Paul Stephenson, age 26, from Oakland, Oregon was reported missing by family members on December 5th, 2013. The family reported they had not heard from Stephenson since November 16th, 2013.

Stephenson is a registered sex offender and a corrections offender who currently has a warrant out for his arrest. Stephenson was facing additional criminal charges of child sex crimes about the time he disappeared. That's a great find Shin. Here's his Namus page. Missing Person Case
I'm sure being a sex offender they have his DNA.
There's been one exclusion on this UID, so far, but the name is not available on the public Namus site.

What info can you share about Anthony Manghelli? Based on facial profile from a 1998 marathon photo, and a hunch based on the bare info I have on his disappearance, he seems to have voluntarily going missing but had enough money to choose that? This makes me wonder if he could be the Whistler bike path John Doe from April 2014.

@Manwel
Wow...Whistler Bike John Doe is a very interesting case, and I can see why you're leaning toward Anthony Manghelli.

To answer your question, yes, I believe Mr. Manghelli had quite enough money to voluntarily live off the grid comfortably for a very long time. Do I have additional financial information? No. It's just a personal opinion based on assumptions of probate proceedings and the exclusive areas that he had lived.

His brother attempted to become conservator of his estate in 2014. I think it was granted, and then rescinded in 2015. Which is odd, since he had been missing for 4 years...

I think you may be on to something...Best of luck!

Oh wow. OK, so I did find the probate records online that confirm that conservatorship and the rescission of it. It seems he had two wives, first a Deborah L. followed by an Alana J. I wonder if the second was still married to him? Perhaps that would nullify a conservatorship claim from the brother? I don't otherwise know much about how conservatorship bonds work, but since the bond was set in the documentation at $44,000, that would indicate there was a hefty enough sum at stake?

At any rate it helped put the connection to his brother who has a very visible online footprint. I just outlined my theory in the thread for the Whistler John Doe. I discovered this case yesterday after encountering the British Columbia "200 bodies" map that was started to address the number of unidentified in Canada. @dotr helped start the thread. A lot of the information from the Whistler John Doe details read as American to me, not a Canadian. Plus, Whistler is kind of a ritzy resort destination that people on the West Coast would visit, especially anyone with a bit of money who enjoys outdoor activities. Someone with money or a history of money would think to go there. And absinthe is really more of a white-collar taste interest as well.

I think the t shirt says Departed - The Dark Days not Deported. I found a t shirt on Amazon UK with that logo. It was introduced in 2011 by a company called Saka which doesn't sound like they have any corporate attachment . They make unique designs by various designers. Unfortunately, the image is no longer available to compare the logo, however, it does mention in the ad that it's a lion, sword and shield print which sounds like this one.

So, two points. First, the t shirt is probably out of print since most of the designs with Saka are done through various individual designers. They cost about 25 USD online now although I don't see any like this particular shirt. And two, Saka is the name of a famous UK football player. The word 'saka' has a meaning in about ten different languages so I don't know where the company name originated.
