We need something quick. I think backpacks should be banned from all schools in the US - peroid - cant bring em on campus - at least it is a start of somekind

carry your books like we did

Maybe not a popular idea, I don't know, but they assign kids too much darn homework and lugging stuff back and forth everyday. The schools are too darn large (consolidation and building huge schools began back in the 60s or so). Kids should be in smaller schools within their communities and the community active in the kids lives. Forget about all the high stakes testing and pressures on teachers... hire more teachers and smaller classes and quit paying so much education money on administration. These schools look like factories or prisons any more.

LE looking at 2 different backpacks.

There was only one shooter right? I'm reading there was one, different story says 2, another one says 3.

I just read three. Which is crazy. But I notice that when these weekly shootings occur, there is so much chaos in the beginning that the first reports are often wrong and confused in their details.

When they initially said just one teacher grazed, I was wondering if they would hide if any students had been shot/killed. I hope that if a student (who wasn't the killer) was killed they had time to notify them first, before another sandy hook situation.

I keep hearing "1 Student, shooter dead" as opposed to 1 student victim and 1 shooter dead. So I'm a little hopeful that just the shooter is dead.

I agree! BUT (!) while Washington fights and argues for months no backpacks is simplisic indeed BUT it is also something that can be done (costs no money) and who knows if it make a difference but it sure is AT THIS POINT certainky not worth implemting starting tomm AM

if ya come with a bag you go home! Those kids will miss lesss school than all the damn lockdowns and exiting your school with your hands up like a felon

their kids

we need to "See" whatever you are coming to school with

who knows if it helps

I think it is much more complicated but since obviously nothing is being done do SOMETHING now.

could a kid just walk in with a gun sure........... but maybe the ones that carry bags and bags with a gun store in them ...................................it .would have to translate to less bullets in and of itself ........we have to remeber for lack of a better word , so far we have been lucky (not literally) but everyone of these had 100's of bullet left

god forbide someone gets to unload there whole backpack load of death.............. these people are armed more than the guys in war it seems ...............god in my day we were afraid of not sitting down when told by a teacher

blasting people to death ugh....................

It's really sad when you wake up every morning wondering what violence is going to occur today -- school killing, killing of LE, killing in supermarket/shopping center/mall, domestic killing, etc. This isn't even a war zone.

Both CNN and NBC have confirmed that one student was shot and killed. The shooter is also deceased but there has been no indication about whether or not the shooter was also a student, if the perp took his own life or was shot by LE.

And yet it is.

<snip>.

I'm not arguing backpacks/no backpacks. I say try it... but you have to make sure kids don't have a ton of stuff to lug around if they don't have backpacks, you can't just simply 'carry your books' anymore.
