I can't think of anything that can be done to stop school shootings. The interiors could be made as secure as government buildings or airports, but that would not stop shootings outside the schools. The root of this problem lies in our Constitution. Please don't get me wrong I believe in the right to bear arms but I am willing to give up that right if it would lead to a safer society. I am just sick of hearing that guns don't kill people. Tell that to the parents who have lost a child due to a shooting whether in a school or not. My dh calls these events, school shooting du jour! That is exactly what it has become.

Sorry, I am not.

It may have to come down to something like this. Another example of parents being held responsible for their kids actions is under age drinking within the home...even if the parents aren't home when it transpires!!!!!

Unfortunately, a good number of these instances also involve perpetrators who acquired their weapons on their own--often legally. In fact I'm only away of the Sandy Hook shooting where wasn't the case????

I don't have any answers or even suggestions on those who obtain guns legally and use them in these school/mass shootings. And any suggestions I would have I'd have to go into the other forum about these issues and I don't want to do that.

I just know that parents should really be held responsible when their children (minor or adult) have free access to their weapons that they should only have free access to.

Maybe it will make them be a little bit more responsible with their guns if they know they'll be charged with a felony and won't be able to even own a gun any longer because they are a convicted felon?

The thing is, the NRA (not that I am looking to stir anything up) is too powerful. I don't know that we could ever get mental health laws passed, in regards to guns. It's such a crazy uphill battle.

We can't get anything passed. That is for sure.

And they are incredibly powerful. But nothing and no one is more powerful than the people when we organize and demand, truly demand change. We just have to stop fighting about it, and being so very divided about every single thing. Especially this. We need compromise.

But we can't stop trying.....for the sake of our children. Common ground must be found.

(Apologies, I'll take future comment to the gun control thread)

Adam Lanza obtained his guns legally, on his own, and also the ones that his mother gifted.

As did Seung Cho, a person so mentally ill he should have NEVER passed a background check. I think he purchased mostly through the internet.

As did Rodgers, another mentally unstable person with a well documented history of being prescribed, Anti Psychotics, yet was STILL able to purchase deadly weapons legally and passed all background checks.

The list goes on and on and on and on.
Yeh, and isnt this sad that now they have to be "labeled" by city..............the Los Vegas one, was advertsing on Facebook for a gun link in that post .........

We had a fire drill now and then..............................and they were fun!.

I agree. I would love to find common ground, but it just isn't working. People want all or nothing, it seems.

I liked the way that was worded. I take it the SROs took the shooter down. Kudos to them!
