OR OR - Heather Thompson, 39, Roseburg, 4 Aug 2010

Hello and Welcome to Websleuths xdeadboltx, thanks for your post.

A new news Article came forward today, sharing. Much more to read at the link.

Homicide victim remembered as caring, positive

“She was really big into nature, the outdoors,” Thompson said. He said he and his ex-wife liked to camp and take road trips along the West Coast, usually with friends.

“We'd hop in a car and drive to Seattle,” he said.

“She was very much about the friends,” Thompson added. “She was big with friends. She didn't like to be alone. She always liked to have people around.”

Thompson said Heather Thompson was an only child. Her parents live in Palmdale, Calif., in the desert east of Los Angeles. The family plans to hold a memorial service for her in Lancaster, Calif.

Thompson said his ex-wife recently had been combining her love of nature with a sense of spiritualism in a religion known as Wicca. “It was spiritualism, a back-to-nature thing.”

From the article mentioned above...some items:

* cause of death still not announced
* apparently SM moved to Oregon at about the same time as Heather, the thought was to help share the bills
* apparently SM moved to Sutherlin about a week before Heather's death

A friend of Heather's said that 2 days before body found, he called repeatedly -- got no answer. The next day a friend of his went to Heather's house to check on her.

Upon arrival, Heather's truck was there, the house door was open, the dog was in the house, Heather was not in the house. Several people searched around the house later that day and couldn't find Heather. Police report was then made to announce her missing. Heather's body was found "on the property." Due to the investigation they are not saying "where" on the property that her body was found, nor are they saying whether detectives believe a weapon was used.

Hmm... so...

Tuesday Aug 3:
* Heather's dad called in the AM and talked to her, she said things were fine. Her dad called in the evening after his class, he could not get in touch with her.
* her friend MG called repeatedly and could not get in touch with her.

Wednesday Aug 4:
* Heather's dad calls, no response
* Heather does not respond to a text from MT (her ex-husband who remains a friend)
* Heather misses an appointment with a friend
* A friend of Heather's friend MG (a lady friend) went to check on Heather. She found Heather's truck in driveway, front door of house open, dog in house, Heather not in house.
* MG and neighbors "searched around the house later that day and couldn't find her."
* Soon after search and not finding Heather, MGs lady friend called police to report her missing.

Thursday Aug 5:
* Heather's body was found "on the property"

Friday Aug 6:
* SM of "Sutherlin" taken into custody on suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card and identity theft, according to jail records.

Monday Aug 9:
* SM was released, DA did not file charges on the theft allegations (until further investigation is complete)

Some notes, thoughts, curiosities:

* MG is 61
* He met Heather, through a friend at Mystic Earth, a Roseburg store
* He said his friend asked Heather to perform a “cleansing” at her house to “cleanse off some remaining spirits and so forth.”
* MG is quoted as saying, “I loved her. She was positive. She was smiling. She was effervescent” -- he met Heather about three weeks before her death (maybe around the 12-17th of July).
* MG reports that Heather had been trying to help a female friend of his organize the clutter in her life.
* MG sent "his friend" to check on Heather on Weds. the 4th.
* MG and neighbors of Heather's searched "around the house" on the 4th
* MG's lady friend called the police

From this article:
>>Michael Thompson said he never would have expected his ex-wife's life to end the way it did.

“She would never put herself in a position to allow something like this,” he said.<<

So...

We have Heather living with an an old friend (SM), ex-husband of her cousin, supposedly to share bills. SM supposedly moved to Sutherlin the week before Heather was found murdered on Aug 5th. On Aug 6th, SM who was noted as "of Sutherlin" was arrested on "suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card and identity theft," no charges were filed until further investigation -- he was released on Aug 9th.

I'm thinking that LE's first thought was SM, after all he had been living with her. Now then how do you "suspect" fraudulent use of a credit card and identity theft? I mean, do you have proof to arrest or not? Sounds kinda trumped up to get someone in for questioning OR to hang onto them until you can check further on their whereabouts at the potential time of a murder?

I'm wondering if SM moved out on good terms OR if he and Heather might have had some issues which caused his move?

You also have a newfound friend who apparently queried Heather saying "So you're the witch?" (jokingly) That friend's friend was seeking to cleanse their house of "remaining spirits and so forth."

Now then...were these "real friends?" Perhaps. Were there some nasty spirits hanging out? Like were they all over one or more of these people who wanted cleansing at their house and/or in their lives? What happens when you make a nasty spirit angry?

I'm slightly curious why a 61 year old male friend of 3 weeks who "loved her" would not call the police and say, "Hey, I have this young female friend who I can't get in touch with, this isn't like her, could you go check on her well being?" Perhaps he wasn't "too" concerned at no phone response (after all they were rather new friends)? I'm also curious why MG's female friend didn't immediately call the police when she arrived at her house and found the door open, the dog inside, Heather's truck there and no Heather. I'm further curious that they would go looking around at some point afterwards WITHOUT calling the police, it had been nearly a day since they couldn't reach her by phone. All that looking around could have destroyed evidence...hmmm...

Now then...I'm also curious about something else. This is the hard part to discuss... I'm going to guess that Heather's life was taken sometime on Tuesday the 3rd when no one could get a hold of her after 11AM AND her dad couldn't reach her, as usual, in the evening. My guess would be her time of death was before her dad's phone call, whatever time that was.

We know friends/neighbors couldn't find her in the house sometime on Wednesday AND that they were reported to have "searched around the house." Does that mean "in rooms and closets in the house" or around as in around the trailer and yard. Whatever, they did not find her. By Wednesday, it is possible that Heather had been dead nearly 24 hours. Okay...so what was the weather like there? Hot? In the 60s? 70s? A corpse does not begin to smell in 24 hours? Or does it at that temp? So the police search on the next day, nearly 48 hours later. Might there have been a smell at that time?

Now how about Louie? Did Heather crate him at times? Surely if she treated him like her own child she let him roam about inside when she was there? Might she have put him in a bedroom when someone was visiting (i.e. if he was very protective or she didn't want him distracting at certain times)? Where/how was Louie found in the house? Also...was Louie so well trained that he would not go out an open front door to look for his mistress if he was loose? AND if he was loosed, mightn't someone be able to perk up his interest by saying, "Louie, where is Heather, go find Heather."

IF Louie was found "closed in a room" or chained up or gosh, was he alive and okay?, that explains that he wasn't out barking perhaps -- barking towards where he might have located his mistresses presence. I would think that if Louie was NOT okay, that would have been a sign to call the police -- Louie is not okay, the door is open, Heather has disappeared.

So... I'm wondering if people searched around the property. IF they did, I'm surprised that they could not find Heather, UNLESS she was "closed into something" -- packaged, so to speak. The hard part will be "how she was found" (in what situation) and "how her life was taken" :( We can only hope that however that was, the murderer left some very "easy" tracks to uncover. And speaking of tracks, depending upon where Heather was found, let's hope those friends/neighbors did not muck up evidence :(

Heather did say she was a witch, but not in a bad way. She was the type to make friends where ever she would go. She did like to go to the "witch store", and loved to make spells. She believed in them. I'm not too sure yet on the "roommate". As for Louie, he's ok. who ever done this had to know that Louie would protect Heather. I wasn't told where he was found, but I think he was locked up. Heather never locked Louie up or had a kennel for him. As for Heather, she was in the house the whole time. I don't think I can tell where yet, but once I speak to Dave again I'll see if i can say anything about it.

Greetings X :)

Welcome to WS! Thanks for joining us. I am so sad that you lost your friend, incredibly sad :( I know there are many that loved Heather who are now grieving, not the least of which are her dear parents who I am absolutely sure loved her -- she was evidently their only child, I am so sad alongside them.

I have contacted Tricia, the owner of WS, to "verify you." Please don't be afraid of this, Tricia just checks for the sake of all of our cases, that people who say they know the victim are for real. We don't need "pretenders" throwing us off of our case work -- you can imagine. On the other hand, we need people like you who can give us insight SO thank you for being here. Tricia is a lovely lady who will probably touch base with you...

I'm so happy to learn that Louie is okay. I hope that Heather's mom and dad can have him OR someone who will love him like Heather did.

Thank you for checking if you can share information. While everyone would like information to help sleuth a case, NO ONE wants to jeopardize the investigation -- we want justice for Heather and all who loved her.

UGH....if I am reading you correctly, a) Louie was locked up and b) Heather was in the house while everyone was searching for and no one caught it.

We'll look forward to what you can share with us. AND please let Heather's family know we care and are here to help if we can.

Welcome X and thank you for making Heather a "real" person for us. I've been very concerned about this murder as I, too, live in Oregon and have many friends and some family members who are involved in the Wiccan lifestyle. It is very much a part of Southern Oregon.

I had a feeling that Heather might have sought out connections and friends at Mystic Earth. I've heard that it is a place with good energy. For those unaware, the cleansing of homes of negative energy is quite common as is the blessing of new homes.

Blessingways for expected babies are the norm rather than the traditional baby showers I've experienced elsewhere. When our granddaughter died not long after her birth, our children chose to hold a Circle of Life for her. It was beautiful and inclusive to all those who loved her and their personal beliefs.

Green witch practices are very common and accepted and I have never seen any threat or discrimination in our community. I don't know Roseburg nearly as well, however, and wonder if Heather's beliefs might have angered or frightened some. I don't think that there's many people who have been exposed to these ceremonies and blessings or green witches in general who have not been struck by their gentleness and reverence for the earth and all creatures.

I am so pleased that Louie was found safe. No doubt he is grieving the loss of Heather greatly. Do you happen to know if she considered him a companion or a familiar? There's a huge difference and I've noticed that she seemed drawn to larger kind-eyed shepherds. I've also wondered if she attended the Oregon Country Fair in Venta just a few weeks before her death. The entrance fee is always kept low so everyone can participate.

As to the weather that week, it was in the mid 80s during the day and the mid to high 50's at night. That's pretty typical summer weather for Roseburg. I saw no precipitation. Most days start out a tiny bit overcast and then the sun breaks through mid-morning. We get almost no rain in Southern or Central Oregon in the summer but the heavy tree cover keeps things moist and cool.

Once again, welcome, and please know that we are all tremendously sorry about your loss.

Thank you for the welcome. I came across this webiste and seen that you guys were looking for information on Heather. I seen you guys were going back and forth and I had to sign up and give you all that I know. Unfortunately I don't want to give you how or where she was murdered yet till I get the ok from Dave. I don't want to mess up the investagation. We want this person caught, and pay for their crime. Heather was a special person to all of us. She spoke her own mind and always told you how she felt. If anyone knew her, they would know she was a tiny women. About 5'4 and small built. As for Tricia, I'll be happy to speak to her. If you go to Heather's myspace. I am on her friends list. Heather lived next to me in Vegas on Haleh Ave. Unfortunately I hadn't spoke to Heather since she moved out to Oregon. So I don't know if she went to the fair. I just had a baby at the end of july and have been wrapped up in the pregnancy. That I didn't get to speak to her before her death.

 • #89
Congratulations on that baby boy!! I had seen that on Heather's MS. Make sure you take care of yourself and attend to your and your son's needs. Heather would want that for you, I'm sure. Hopefully, there will be resolution soon.

(((hugs)))

STMA 561 Psycho-Spiritual Development. 9. Mary Rose Bumpus, RSM, Ph.D. Summer Quarter 2008. Winifred Wing Han Lamb and Heather Thomson, “Wholeness, ...
www.seattleu.edu/workarea/linkit.aspx?linkidentifier=id... www.seattleu.edu/workarea/linkit.aspx?linkidentifier=id&itemid=4258

Did Heather have a special wiccan name? Was she accepted into the offical wiccan clan or what ever they are called?

I dont have time to follow this one. Psycho-spiritual sounds like this is the right person.

This whole situation is now giving me the creeps, it has all the makings of a Steven King novel.

Where was TH's baby during the missing hours?
DEDE I read on another site that the woman that owns the farm/house is cooperating with LE. 2 people there tried to cell phone her.

 • #91
I just checked the links provided above and the woman cited is Heather Thomson (without the "p"). I don't think that is related.

Concerning the Wiccan name Heather used, it seems to be cldhrt--I presume "Coldheart". She even defended the use of it on another forum saying that it harkened back to her childhood days. I found that a bit strange as most Green witch names are warm and inviting but I haven't seen another. Her given name of Heather Wolf would have been a perfect fit.

I've also wondered if our new poster, X, could add any information about Heather's business pages, Moonlightpath, which she had updated on July 2nd. She registered the name in 2002 but it was had 16 IP addresses:

http://whois.domaintools.com/moonlightpath.com (note that each of the pages can be clicked on to see all the services offered)

http://moonlightpath.com/Remedies.html

I see links to bath and beauty products and also a cached message that says:

I am clairaudient, clairsentient, clairvoyant on a page titled:

http://www.moonlightpath.com/Witch_Doctors.html

On the home page, there is a message that says:

"Heather's services are no longer available at this time...

Please feel free to check out Remedies and our links. We will be changing the site soon…"

http://www.moonlightpath.com/Remedies.html

This is a link to her Remedies page where she talks about purging anger, heart healing and color meditation. It seems that Heather put a lot of work into these pages as I don't think they are simply borrowed from another source.

I'm very very confused as to what Moonlightpath actually is. Is it an umbrella company for lots of services and products?

Hmmm...just found this. I wonder if this is Heather? I believe this is her photo which we've seen on one of the other sites. Maybe this is her special name.

http://www.keen.com/details/LadyDragonfly57/Love-Relationships/9486735

This is on a site where one sends in questions and a reading is done for a one topic multiple question reading. The cost is $14.95. I think it must be her as she describes herself as a third generation claircognizant, clairaudient, clairsentient, clairvoyant. Her reviews seem highly positive. However, there's a heartwrenching negative review from August 10, 2010 from a person who has used her services successfully in the past but is asking for a refund due to the fact that LadyDragonfly57 has not answered her.

LadyDragonfly57 says that any requests coming in will be read the following day. Being that this is fairly anonymous on the internet, I'd wonder whether a person would know whom to call if she did not respond in a timely fashion. Very curious. I can't seem to clip anything from this page but it is open at the above link. She's been a member since 10/15/09, doing phone calls and emails and accepting "life questions" and advising about love and relationships:

http://www.keen.com/LadyDragonfly57

A LadyDragonfly57 also shows up here:

http://forum.nightfallapps.com/calendar.php?c=1&week=1488672000&do=displayweek&month=3

I'm not sure why she is referred to as a "Fresh Corpse". That's a bit frightening. She's listed as having an application on March 11, 2017 (??). Does anyone know what this is?

I hope this helps somewhat.

 • #92
In doing further checking on the reviews for LadyDragonfly57, it is Heather as several reviewers call her by name. That's a little worrisome IMO. I wonder what other information she gave out?

As her friends and family have said, Heather was very open. Maybe too open.

 • #93
I looked at the LadyDragonfly57 info. The picture is Heather on the page. I know she spoke a few times about helping people through the internet. Also she joined this club or supplier that she bought products in big bulks. It was like beauty products and something else, I can't remember. She sold some of the stuff on ebay. I don't know anything about Heather's business page. I know only about the carpet business, cause her and dave lived next door to me. Dave would do my carpets, and for trade my boyfriend would do work on her cleaning machine or car/truck. The Wiccin name, I always thought she went by coldhearted or by heather.

Hi,

I read here a lot, but never thought I'd have a reason to post. I met Heather online via our high school alumni forum at myspace. She was a couple of years ahead of me, so I didn't even know her back in the day, but she was very helpful in trying to help me locate another friend. We friended up and, over time, exchanged many message on myspace since we were both planning a move here to Oregon in the upcoming months. Now, I don't have anything of value to add to the sleuth pool, but I just wanted to say something regarding her nickname of "Cldhrt".

Most notably, her nickname was not "cldhrtD", it was "~cldhrt~" I never heard it pronounced, but I can tell you this: a cold heart she did not have. I am actually wondering if her nickname was a play on words (like that old game show Bumper Stumpers) -- and that it could quite possibly have been "Sealed Heart" (because of the cld in it) rather than "Cold Heart" which is the obvious guess. Like I said, I never heard her nickname pronounced, but the term cold heart just doesn't fit with the Heather I came to know, even if I only knew her "electronically". And too, the term "cold heart" is completely out of line with the Wiccan ways.

That's all I have to add...but thanks for listening. Many of us (Heather's friends) on facebook are never going to rest until this is resolved and I hope that justice is swift.

JA

PS. Site admin, I've seen that you prefer to verify people who give info saying they knew the person. Props to you on this. You can verify that I'm legit by sending me a message through this site and I will provide my myspace screen-name; you will find that Heather is indeed a friend and if you send a message to my myspace account, I'll respond in turn.

A couple things...

The flavor of the above mentioned "STMA 561 Psycho-Spiritual Development" and the name "Heather Thomson" (without the "p") in it, just don't seem to have anything to do with our HT here.

Also...per this
>>A LadyDragonfly57 also shows up here:

http://forum.nightfallapps.com/calen...ayweek&month=3<<

The LadyDragonfly57 there refers to themselves as a "mom, grandmom." Doesn't sound like our HT.

 • #96
Alar--Welcome. I am so sorry that you've lost your friend. I think I posted something upthread about how the name, cldhrt, didn't seem to fit at all. Heather seemed very warm and loving. I even remember reading a forum post where she light-heartedly defended her screen name. It did indeed sound like something from her childhood.

If she truly was LadyDragonfly57, that sounds more like her. However, as I've said before, her given name of Heather Wolf seemed quite fitting. Even on the reviews she received for her email "readings", she seemed comfortable with people calling her by her given name.

Once again, a warm welcome.

Once again

Hello xdeadboltx, Alar (welcome to the site) and Others...

Okay...I'm a little mind boggled about something. Anyone have any ideas?

At http://www.moonlightpath.com, as Missizzy pointed out, it now says:

>>Heather's services are no longer available at this time...

Please feel free to check out Remedies and our links. We will be changing the site soon…<<

Who is the "We" in the above referring to "our" links. They are obviously noting "their ownership" of a site with the "we" and "our" -- yet that site appeared to be Heather's. At least she was the administrative contact AND it was her readings announced, connected to "Buy Now" buttons with her email address and her writings on that webpage.

So who is this new "We" and "our?" Who is taking ownership of that which appeared to be Heather's site?

Whoever it was:

* knows that Heather's services are no more available "at this time."
* did not announce the sad loss of Heather
* has access to Heather's website, password, FTP or server, passwords
* has blown out varying things Heather obviously wrote for the site (listing Heather's detailed abilities/services, if you compare the present pages to the cached pages)
* still recommends checking out the "Remedies" page??
* still recommends looking at the links??
* knows how to edit/upload MS pages to be used on the web, write on html pages, used a different font from Heather's typical
* will be changing the site soon (to a memorial page?)

So... I noted that Heather appeared to be the only one announced as doing readings there originally. Who was connected to receiving the money on those "Buy Now" buttons. Seems to be "[email protected]" and that seems to be Heather. Who might be connected to those buttons and have access to the PayPal account now?

I have noted that the flavor of the font on Heather's moonlightpath.com and on the genealogy page of MT and HT (http://www.moonlightpath.org/) are the same. The "BradleyHand ITC" font is used. I rarely see that font on pages. My guess is that the same person designed those pages, of course Heather might have insisted on that font on any webpages that she had designed. The geneaology page notes in its page source "This site created by Michael & Heather Thompson." Seems the moonlightpath.com would have been Heather's though?

The moonlightpath.com notes this "path" in its page source:

file:///C:\Users\COLDHE~1\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtml1\01\clip_filelist.xml

Seems like that was a path on a computer to which Heather had access? (her computer?)

Heather and Michael remained friends, as far as we know. We also know that MT is "Computer Tech." I think it is entirely possible that when Heather and Michael were together, that he was the family webmaster (doing the webpages.) Perhaps, after they split, he agreed to help Heather with her webpage? Perhaps he made the recent changes for her family?

I'm boggled, who has the "we" and "our" interest? MT's name is not listed on the moonlightpath.com domain ownership. Whoever made the recent changes pointed to the remedies and links. I wonder why?

So...I looked at some of the links. Some of them lead to rather large companies, or distant. Then there is one link pointing to a Portland, Oregon business.

At anyrate, I'm boggled, but perhaps we will soon see the changes to the page.

Anyone know who is working on Heather's webpage?

Missizzy- Thank you for the congrats on my son. That's very kind of you. The sad thing about it, is my due date was August 3rd. I had him a week early. It makes me sad to think it was possible that Heather could have pasted on the 3rd.

Alar- Welcome, I think I had made a comment about her name. coldheart. I think I miss typed it as coldhearted earlier. But she did have her license plate on her car as cldhrt. I never really got the story out of her as to why she had that. It was just a name she liked.

I'm not sure who is helping heather with her website. It's very possible that it's Michael. Like the newspaper and I've said. They stayed in good touch. Even though they were divorced, they still charished the friendship they had.

 • #99
X--I happen to be Christian but I try to be open and loving with all who choose other paths. I have no doubt in my mind that Heather is well aware of your precious son. My goodness they literally passed each other at the door. Memories of Heather will be something to share with him as he grows.

I am totally flummoxed by the moonlightpath business dealings. That is not my area of expertise, that's for sure. I'm fortunate to figure out how to turn my little Mac laptop off and on!!

I did note that there have been many changes to the business pages, per the link above:

Registrar History: 1 registrar
NS History: 5 changes on 5 unique name servers over 3 years
IP History: 16 changes on 10 unique name servers over 6 years
Whois History: 20 records have been archived since 2007-07-30

I still can't figure out just what moonlightpath is. Is it a business wholly owned by Heather or is it more like a franchise?

 • #100
Thanks for the welcomes all.

Regarding the website, here's the domain registration info:

Code:
Domain Name: MOONLIGHTPATH.COM
 Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC.
 Whois Server: whois.godaddy.com
 Referral URL: http://registrar.godaddy.com
 Name Server: NS01.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
 Name Server: NS02.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
 Status: clientDeleteProhibited
 Status: clientRenewProhibited
 Status: clientTransferProhibited
 Status: clientUpdateProhibited
 Updated Date: 02-jul-2010
 Creation Date: 31-may-2002
 Expiration Date: 11-jul-2018

Nothing of great interest there, except that the updated date is July 02, 2010. That would have been just about 6 weeks ago. That's not to say that she, herself, didn't make the update. But someone did.

I also noted that path mentioned in the page source at moonlightpath.com.
Code:
file:///C:\Users\COLDHE~1\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtml1\01\clip_filelist.xml
Of interest there is only the COLDHE~1 part. When you set up an account on a computer initially, you are asked to give your account a name. Path names will be truncated like this in some cases. She probably named her account COLDHEART, and this was the result in the page source. They pointed the link to a relative location, rather than absolute. This makes me think I was definitely wrong about the "Sealed Heart" thing, though, so that clears that up for me.

About the site moonlight path, several things of note.

 • Links page -- they are all rather generic links; they lead to related sites and there's no affiliate IDs attached to the links. Not very useful info in itself.
 • WHOIS -- I looked up the WHOIS info on each domain individually (from the links page) and found that they're registered by a handful of entities, rather than one person, and their records also indicate that they were last updated on very different dates than moonlightpath.com, which was updated on July 2, 2010. I was thinking maybe someone might have updated their own WHOIS record "while they were there" updating Heather's. A couple of domains do come close, though, in their last updated dates. nipponkodo.com was last updated on May 10, 2010, hayhouse.com was last updated on June 10, 2010. rawganique.com was last updated July 18, 2010, and 100percentpure.com was last updated on July 13, 2010. Not sure if it's important, but there it is.
 • Guestbook -- they called this "Feedback" but it's been signed by no one? That just seems odd considering all the praises Heather got on that other site for her readings. This would seem reasonable if the site were brand new, but the WHOIS information shows that the domain was registered May 31, 2002. Could it have been deleted? I submitted a generic post and it said "thanks" (in a nutshell) and that my comment may have to be approved before being displayed. I received no auto-reply.

I think I read upthread that there may be a question as to whether moonlightpath.com was indeed Heather's site. Consider, for a moment, the fact that the site has a "Spiritual Counselors" section, yet not a single one is listed. But if the site is NOT hers, then why would it be "changing" now that her services are no longer available? I don't think there's any question that the site is hers.

I'm wondering, too, who are "we" as mentioned on the site...although, having been in web development for a long time, I can tell you that even one-man-operations refer to themselves as "we" in their copy, because it seems a bit less like a one-man-operation when a potential client/customer reads it. (Not to put down one-man-operations, just stating the fact.) I think the real question with the site is this: who edited the site after Heather's death, and exactly when. (ie, if it was edited BEFORE Heather's death, that would be a huge red flag in my eyes.)
