What was her mental state: Atty steps in and says all we can say is she appeared to be in good health and didn't need medical attention.

I am just bouncing off of your post Ingra but even the question asked infuriates me because it sure wouldn't have been asked if it was the father who had murdered his little girl and attempted to murder the older daughter. It still shows the media helps to keep the myth going.

So I just have to rant and get this off my chest now that another little child has been cruelly murdered by their bio mom and one left knowing forever that her mom wanted her dead and was the one who tried to kill her.

Imo, there have been myths put out for decades about mothers who murder their own children. Even the psychologists and psychiatrists push the myth which is not supported by the facts and the propaganda has been bought by society for decades. If all children are to receive justice the myth must stop.

I suppose it sounds better if they try to make a female mentally ill when they murder their own children. If one doesn't just blindly believe what the media puts out and so many do , then they will find the truth if they seek it. The real truth is only approximately 2-4% of mothers who kill their own children are mentally ill. The vast majority of these so called mothers are sickening premeditated murderers and nothing more.

Another myth that has been pushed for way too long is mothers murder their children for different motives than when fathers kill their children as if that somehow lessens the horrific murders they do against the children they brought into this world.

Their motives are the same as when fathers kill unless it is the teeny tiny 2-4% group who are mentally ill. 1. Jealousy. 2. Revenge against the other parent. 3. Financial gain. 3. Custody issues. 4. Children seen as burdens they no longer want to carry. 5. Horrendous physical abuse or neglect that eventually results in death/homicide of the child. 6. Plans to commit suicide and narcissistically believes they own their children and think so much of themselves they believe the children cant live without them. GAH! And then of course we have the mothers who sell their child to a pedophile and then the pedophile winds up murdering the child or scarring them for life.

Kinder and gentler sex? Nope. That is a crock and it must stop being told. Only with truth can we really advance and give all of these children the justice EACHONE deserves.

There should be more females on death row. On that society has not changed much and still looks through rose colored glasses painting the female as the gentler kinder sex, accepting lame excuses when none are afforded the father nor should there be . Double standards are still going strong when it comes to our criminal justice system. Females want equality until they find themselves in the criminal justice system. Then they want to revert to being seen as weak, meek, downtrodden individuals when most of them are no different than males who do same like crimes.

When they are convicted of same like crimes they do not usually get the same sentence as a male committing the same crime. If a person is not given a LWOP sentence the stats say for murder a male will serve an average of 17.5 years while the female who commits the same acts on their victim only serves an average of 7-10 years. The disparity is overwhelming and disgusting. Females are the most likely gender to be convicted of manslaughter and the male will be convicted of murder even when the murders are very similar in nature.

I believe more females get away with their crimes and that is why so many cases remains unsolved when LE even has tunnel vision and the crime is heinous they stupidly buy that it must have been committed by a male.

Some of the most sadistic murders I have kept up with throughout the decades were perpetrated by females unless they were done by a serial killer. Many times their crimes are beyond overkills and into the realm of being way out of the norm to the macabre yet the majority of the time they are not punished equally as their male counterparts are. It isn't the male we hear about so much that hacks someone to death or bludgeons their victim over and over again or slices their victim with a knife or a hatchet over a 100 times. Or sits there coldly watching their victim die an agonizing death by poisoning. It is the female who seems so viscous.

And what the media doesn't want to talk about either is when it comes to horrific child abuse and extreme neglect the majority of the time the perpetrator is the bio mom. 59% of the time yet that is never brought to light to be discussed. Why? Imo, because the media and even the psyche doctors have pushed the myth that men are bad and women are the kinder and gentle sex and the truth flies in the face of what they have wanted the American public to buy for years now.

When it comes to a parent murdering their child both genders run neck and neck. However; if one just believed what they see in the media or read in print articles they would be sure it was way more dads killing children than moms when that just isn't the truth.

Until we throw the myth out and are willing to look at the revolting truth... children will continue to be devalued in the court system when their offender is their own mother or another predatory female.

Imo, this woman is not mentally ill. Her motive was to seek revenge against her husband who was divorcing her and she used their children as pawns to see that it happened. Often times when this happens a mom cant stand the thought that the children love their father as much or maybe even more so than they do their mom. For some unexplainable reason mothers like this see their children as possessions to do with what they will when in truth the children were individuals and aren't owned by anyone.

I literally get nauseated when I read of a case where a mother was either let go by a jury completely or just got a slap on the wrist when they commit the worst act of all against their own helpless children. To me there isn't a worst homicide than murdering the very children a parent was suppose to love and protect. It is the ultimate betrayal.

Sorry for the lengthy post everyone but this has tugged at my heartstrings for many years now.

Every little child deserves to be loved and protected by their parents but when they are murdered by one of the parents..... they also deserve justice and justice must be equal or we windup valuing one child's life over the other based on the gender of who their murderer is. That is so wrong on so many levels its mindboggling to me and always will be.

We have got to change the message that we are sending in this country. Jurors must show that ALL of these children (not just some) deserve equal justice and no less.

Lets see if the DA goes for the death penalty. It is sure a death penalty qualified case and better yet if it does become one lets see if the jury has the guts to do the right thing for the children regardless of who the murderer is.

It did help to distress by getting all of this out. It just infuriates me.

Just like when female predator/pedophiles RAPES an underage child. What does the media do every stinking time? Yep. they sugarcoat the RAPE and refused to call it what it is.. and says 'so and so had 'sex with' .............' GAG!!!!! It makes me so mad at times I can feel my blood pressure going through the roof.

I don't believe she has mental illness for one nano-second nor do I buy that the PTSD made her become a murderer.

There are over 6 million children yearly in our country who are abused. The vast overwhelming majority of them never ever go on to harm another living soul and certainly NOT their own precious children. Most of them become 'helicopter' parents instead and are overprotective of their children and not one that the children need to be protected from.

When a female premeditates murders like this it always seems she drags the abuse excuse out like she had it in her back pocket just incase she needs it. The abuse she may have dealt with decades ago didn't make her go out and premeditate and then carry out murder and attempted murder. The timing of the circumstances will not go unnoticed by her jury. She may try to use it........most all females do, but it isn't going to fly, imo.. It is very obvious why she murdered her little girl and when she did it and tried her best to murder her oldest daughter.

But I have no doubt this will be the excuse she uses. What other lame excuse does she have? She is 40 years old. She did not kill them until she knew her husband was filing for divorce. Mental? Imo, no. Vindictive to the point of murder? Yes, imo. He was her intended target. That is why she didn't try to murder him. She didn't have to.......she just tried to destroy what he loves most knowing he will have to live the rest of his life without his little girl knowing his own wife murdered her and looking at his oldest daughter knowing it is a miracle that her so called mom didn't successfully murder her too.

I hope she gets the death penalty.

JS. There is a special place in hell for her. Even IF she WAS mentally ill, there is no excuse for what she did. Baby is gone. 2 years old and full of promise, life and joy. She IS in peace tonight, but her earthly journey could have been so much more, with so much less pain.

AS will forever have to live with the memories, the horror, the pain, and most of all, the betrayal. The person that brought her into this world, tried to take her out of this world as well.

I pray she pleads guilty for the sake of the surviving daughter. The child has already been through hell and back.

I think she wanted to make Dad pay, and a trial would only prolong her satisfaction. I am absolutely convinced at this point this woman will do anything to prolong suffering, even at her own daughter's determent.

The crimes she is accused of are eligible for the death penalty in Oregon. However, Gov. Kitzhaber has placed a moratorium on executions as long as he's governor, he is up for reelection in November. I am not sure if anyone has received a death sentence since the moratorium. It's pretty rare, I think only two have been executed in Oregon since the death penalty was reinstated in 1978.

I live in a beach community about 20 miles South of Cannon Beach. Imo, the demographics in these Oregon beach communities is slanted very heavily ultra liberal. Based on my experience, I doubt if it would be possible to get a death verdict on a woman who was abused as a child, as her husband asserted. Actually, I think it would be difficult regardless of the history. sadly.

Well it is time for the death sentence to be given once again! We know it will be years, if ever, before it is carried out. JS deserves the worst punishment possible and life in prison with no parole just does not serve justice.

Her daughter at 13 is at such a tender age. JS has more than likely ruined this child's life! Much will depend on her inner personality. She will need the best therapists and for a long time. My heart is broken for what she has mentally and physically been thru.

Wow this is nuts! My heart goes out to AS and her deceased baby sister. Cannot wait to hear "the whole story" in this case. What JS did is so totally wrong. A mother is suppose to love her children unconditionally and protect them from harm. Something is so wrong with this woman's head that she could do this to her own flesh and blood.

Just an observation in this video. There's a picture of GS at 3:00 into this video. I realize he is "hamming" it up for the camera but this guy gives me the creeps....just saying. I read the linked document pdfs.
So ....mom claimed she and daughters were terrified of dad's physical and mental abuse
and wanted ct to order dad stay at least 10 miles away from her home.

Then mom was so protective of the girls, that she killed one and tried to kill the other.
