Thank you, Knox, for sharing that information. I knew they must have had sufficient evidence for the murder charge that they weren't disclosing publicly. Guess we have to wait and see what that is. Comendable swift police work in this case.

I was dreading this info. I was very much leaning towards the possibility. :( Poor, sweet, beautiful girl!

:overreaction::anguish:
Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel isn't buying the story about Lara having accidentally run over Sawyer.

Lara "did unlawfully and intentionally cause the death of Kaylee Anne Sawyer," the murder charge filed against him Tuesday reads.

Circuit Court Judge Alta Brady has prohibited all parties in the case, including attorneys and the district attorney's office, from publicly commenting on it.
Hummel told The Associated Press in an email that consequently he could not say what evidence led his office to charge Lara with murder instead of vehicular homicide.

But he added: "I can tell you that I would not file charges alleging a person intentionally killed a person if I did not have evidence to support the assertion."

They've positively ID'd her and the cause of death :(

BEND, Ore. (KOIN) — Medical examiners confirmed a body found earlier this week was that of Kaylee Sawyer, who reportedly died of blunt force trauma, police said.

So.. Is blunt force trauma usually a blow to the head typically of some sort?

Any part of the body.

"Blunt trauma, blunt injury, non-penetrating trauma or blunt force trauma refers to physical trauma to a body part, either by impact, injury or physical attack. The latter is usually referred to as blunt force trauma."

<mod snip>

I'm just now catching up, but the arrest affadavit said he was on duty at the time he supposedly hit her. But he might have been on night shift and didn't have to report until 11 or 12 so he could have also been out on the town before work, too.

Technically if she died from being hit by the car, it can be considered blunt force trauma. For example if her head hit the pavement from the car striking her, it's blunt force trauma.

So it can be from something hitting the head, or from the head hurting something, if that makes sense.

I wonder if there was any evidence of a sexual assault? Could she have been running away, and he struck her with the car to prevent her from getting away? Very little about this case makes sense. But then again, do any of them?

The trauma doesn't have to be to the head.

Good point. I was just picturing the car hitting her causing her to fall and hit her head on the pavement, but it definitely could have been trauma to her organs causing an internal bleed.

I think I assumed the head injury because Lara knew right away she was dead.

I made a typo in my previous post - the word "hurting" was supposed to be "hitting". Autocorrect gets me almost every time I post with my Kindle Fire!

I am following but there's been so little information. I don't believe this guy would have gone so bats**t crazy if he had accidentally hit and killed someone. I feel certain there's more to this. I'm also very curious to see more details concerning the fellow he shot at the motel in CA. I don't think I missed anything but has anyone seen more about that incident?

It could be as simple as he saw her regularly, approached her and she did not acknowledge him or rejected his advances. So he knocked her down and then ran her over in a rage.

MOO

IIRC there was a rumor that he was at the same bar Kaylee was at that night and had possibly had some interaction with her. We don't know if that's true or even if he was actually working that night. Very frustrating to have so little information.
