GUILTY OR - Kelsey McCune for kidnap, rape of 13yo girl, Oregon City, 2013

Call me crazy for saying this, but from day 1 in this case, the same lingering thought that I've had in the back of my mind has always been..'Why is this guy doing this? Does he really think he can get away with this?' My apologies, I'm just thinking out loud.

So abduction isn't a legal term? Hm. Okay.

Either way, I just hope she's found safe.

So very concerned about this situation. She should have been found by now if they were just wandering the local area. I don't think he was prepared for the cold outside weather either. I hope he is hiding out with others somewhere and she can find a way to escape safely.

I don't think abduction is a criminal term. It's another word for kidnapping I guess.

Key Difference: Abduction is when someone uses deceit or force in order to take a person or a child away from their home or relatives. Kidnapping is taking away or forcefully transporting a person against their will and holding them in false imprisonment, a confinement without legal authority. The kidnapping is usually done for a motive or for ransom.

With the weather so cold and rainy/snowing in Oregon tonight, I am just hoping she is someplace out of the elements for the night. She's a child, she should be home having hot chocolate and home baked cookies on a cold snowy night.

Don't you all think they immediately traveled somewhere warmer?

Don't you all think they immediately traveled somewhere warmer?

Based on social media comments, so not that reliable, it sounds like he has been living off his friends and acquaintances for a long time. He is homeless and jumps from couch to couch depending on the people he knows and who he can take advantage of. It seems like he has been in the same area for at least the last 10 years. Do we know if he has any contacts outside of Oregon? Where did he grow up?

I don't see him taking her much outside of his "comfort" zone.

The way the weather has been so frigid on the west coast for the last week or so, they would have to have traveled quite a long way to get anywhere warm.

He is apparently without a vehicle of his own, too.

Today I was imagining they might be hanging out in shopping malls for long hours at a time. With extended holiday shopping hours they could be there from 8 or 9 in the mornings until 10 or so in the evenings. If he isn't keeping her drugged (or worse) she is going to be pretty bored I would think.

Oh, I really hope they're not camping. We're having the lowest temperatures we've seen in 4 years, it's supposed to get down in the 20's tonight.

This reminds me of Hannah Anderson :(
I'm in Portland too and it's COLD out. I think it's unlikely that they're camping around here. Some nearby areas got a fair amount of snow this morning, and the winds are just biting.

Good catch, Neptune! :thumb:

Thank you! The Milwaukie address appears to be the company's agent/ attorney (Suite C). But, just in case not, and it's an actual company address and McCune went into work (before it shut down), it's a small building and in Suite A is the headquarters of Paradise Trail Christian Camp. The actual camp is located near Government Camp on Mt Hood.

Grasping at straws here, but.... close in proximity sometimes means familiarity. Then again, he may have never set foot in that building.

BBM This just made me wonder if they could have broken into a vacant cabin up in Zigzag or Rhododendron or Government Camp. They've got to be somewhere they can stay warm. I took my dogs out for a walk today around 2:30 and even wearing three layers and a coat, hat, snow boots and gloves I was still cold. And it was the "warmest" part of the day.

From the sleuthing I did earlier today, I just can't picture any of his friends/relatives harboring them both. I think most people (unless they're smoking crack) would question why this guy was with a 13 year old. She doesn't even look 18, for heaven's sake.

Hope you're keeping warm Neptune! :seeya:

Good thinking! Survival instincts -- warmth and food -- are so basic. Shelter is their Number #1 concern. Hopefully right about now she's saying "Let the adventure stop -- take me back to my warm home and a hot meal."

I think this case will be solved soon and she'll be home.

PS. Yes, and stay warm and comfy yourself, La Louve!

He may have planned this enough in advance to steal money and save it for a cabin somewhere?

I know Mt. Hood is a popular year round travel/recreation destination...

Good thinking. And anyone that had rented a cabin for the Thanksgiving holiday last week would likely have cleared out by this past Sunday or Monday.

LE mentioned that S. and McCune may be using public transportation. It is possible to get to the Mt Hood area (Timberline, Government Camp, Rhododendron, Welches, et al) by way of Trimet, and the Sandy, Oregon transit system.

Thanks for the link to the transcript.

"Also, Nancy, very importantly, the family believes that S. and McCune had been communicating in secret, without anybody knowing, through e-mail. Apparently, McCune is very tech-savvy, was helping her with fixing her computer, and they started to communicate via e-mail back and forth.

Police also confirmed to us that they believe that S. may have deleted some messages on her phone and does not have her phone with her. Her phone was left at home."

I think there's every reason to hope she's alive and will be found eventually. Reminds me of that case that was so similar a couple years ago and the couple ran out of gas and abandoned their car in some town in California where they were panhandling in front of a grocery store. This guy doesn't look quick-witted enough to have planned well - my guess is they're in a homeless camp or panhandling by now.
