This man is scary and dangerous and should never walk free. I wonder if he is a true pedophile or if this was an opportunity to control a female, any female. It doesn't matter WHY, but I always wonder what is in the mind of a grown man when he does this. I hope this child gets the help she needs now.

Last night, we threw our DD a formal sweet 16. She looked beautiful. As I watched her bopping up and down, dancing with her friends I thought of this young girl and of Abby who is still missing. My heart sinks for these families. I come on here this morning to see if any progress was made and couldn't find this link. I had mixed emotions as I searched. When I read that she was been found safe, I can't tell you how happy I am. Her family can relax! Then I read the charges!!!!!!!!! This family has so much healing to do. For this 🤬🤬🤬 to sit across from this family on Thanksgiving due to the kindness of them. Giving someone down on their luck with a warm meal and bed and he turned on them makes me sick. I wish for nothing more then for this family to recoup from this tragedy. My prayers to this young lady and her family.

I feel utterly sick. The definition of Rape I under Oregon law:

Rape, Sodomy, or Unlawful sexual penetration in the 1st degree: the victim is subjected to forcible compulsion; or the victim is under 12 years of age; or the victim is under 16 years of age and is related to the person as a sibling of whole or half blood or is the person’s child, or is the person’s stepchild; or the victim is incapable of consent because of mental defect, mental incapacitation, or physical helplessness. Class A felony.

http://www.portlandoregon.gov/police/article/61869

Definition of Kidnapping I:

163.235¹
Kidnapping in the first degree
(1) A person commits the crime of kidnapping in the first degree if the person violates ORS 163.225 (Kidnapping in the second degree) with any of the following purposes:
(a) To compel any person to pay or deliver money or property as ransom;
(b) To hold the victim as a shield or hostage;
(c) To cause physical injury to the victim;
(d) To terrorize the victim or another person; or
(e) To further the commission or attempted commission of any of the following crimes against the victim:
(A) Rape in the first degree, as defined in ORS 163.375 (Rape in the first degree) (1)(b);
(B) Sodomy in the first degree, as defined in ORS 163.405 (Sodomy in the first degree) (1)(b); or
(C) Unlawful sexual penetration in the first degree, as defined in ORS 163.411 (Unlawful sexual penetration in the first degree) (1)(b).
(2) Kidnapping in the first degree is a Class A felony. [1971 c.743 §99; 2005 c.22 §112; 2009 c.660 §43]

So this is no statutory rape charge. Poor little one, I hope the monster NEVER gets out of jail. :(

They need to look real hard at this guy and make sure there aren't other victims, IMO. I suspect this isn't his first rodeo. :(

In keeping with the removal of the victim's name from the thread, I have removed the tags I added that had her name. There is only one other that I can't remove because I didn't add it. I'm alerting the mods to my post so they can remove it.

Poor girl and her family. I pray for healing and justice for the crimes committed against their daughter.

I hope this 🤬🤬🤬 rots.

ETA thank you mods!

I agree...

and... If this isn't his first assault/offense/etc....

I hope other offended girls will now feel empowered to come forward to inform LE...

AND... If anyone KNOWS what this 🤬🤬🤬 has done in the past... Then they, TOO must come forward!

If there is one thing I have learned from being on Crime boards is so many times it is the kind hearted who become Victims or Family members. There are so many ways to help those we may view as simply less fortunate. No way No how would I bring anyone into my home. Not placing blame but sometimes there are lessons. So very sorry to read the charges but thankfully she is alive.

Oh God, poor girl! :( I hope she can recover from this. I wonder in what shape they found her and whether it was violent when LE found them and arrested him. I hope he just surrendered. What a 🤬🤬🤬! The parents must be feeling so guilty for inviting him into their home. Although they are not to blame for anything he did, but as a parent you will always feel bad about such a situation.

Plus there is this in Oregon which basically says that if the crime was committed the minimum sentence has to be followed through by the judge, no leniency, and no good behavior early release type thing.

Oregon Ballot Measure 11 (1994) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I wasn't sure if it was still active but I think it is.

Mods, Should we remove all posters and pictures also?

Thank goodness he didn't kill her, that someone called in a tip, that LE got to her, I too hope she can recover from this.

I want to add some additional thoughts to Bravo's post.

This was not a case like Elizabeth Smart's where the perpetrators were itinerants panhandling at highway exits who the Smart family brought in - out of Christian kindness - to do some temporary work for them. According to the news reports, McCune has been friends with the victim's father for ten years. Clearly he had gained the family's trust. But as the victim grew older, were there signs of inappropriateness that family members discounted? Were there red flags going off that they chose to ignore out of a sense of giving the guy the benefit of the doubt? Were her siblings concerned but didn't say anything to their parents out of fear of upsetting them or making them angry? Most all of us have had the experience of rationalizing someone's troubling behavior and in retrospect recognized that our intuition was correct all along.

According to news reports, LE found evidence that the two had been engaging in secret emails to one another. I think it is a good reminder to all of us as parents to be vigilant over our childrens' internet activities and restrict its use in ways that allow them to explore and yet keep them as safe as humanly possibly (without wrapping them in bubblewrap until they are 25). Yes, children in their second decade are beginning to push against their boundaries, but as parents whose job it is to protect our children, I believe sometime we have our blinders on as to what could possibly go wrong when we give them certain freedoms. The world is a very different place than when I was a teenager back in the Pleistocene, and in large part for good and bad, it is due to the internet. Ill-intentioned people just have much easier access to innocent and naive people these days.

Please understand, I am not blaming the parents in any way here. What has happened to their daughter and their family is not something I would wish on anyone. But I think it is also a cautionary tale.

Very well said, La Louve. The Internet has ushered in a new era never experienced before on planet Earth -- us "elders" remember a time not so long ago when it did not exist. IMO through the Internet (email, social networking sites) the "access" to prospective victims has grown exponentially -- but the technology also means more perpetrators caught. Oddly, as a society, we are more vulnerable but at the same time more in control. We live in interesting times.
