LE or press (at last conference) said they were extending search to near the family home...

how far is that from school, do we know? Wondering why they would do that unless it is fairly close and they think he tried to walk home?

IIRC I read earlier that he lives 3 miles from school. They searched closer to the school and didn't find him, so now they will search closer to his home. Seems logical, I guess.

It was such a beautiful day in Portland today and all I could think was that I wished this sweet boy could be out playing with his friends or down at the Rose Festival instead of being wherever it is that he is.

Come home safe Kyron. A lot of people are praying for you.

With all kinds of parents there unloading items from car trunks, etc. I hope that all of them have been instructed to check their vehicles, plus any delivery trucks or service vehicles that were at the school that day need to be checked. So many places for a little boy to hide :(

There is still a bit of light outside, but not for long. I pray Kyron has found a place where he can stay warm and that maybe the lights from the search team will draw him to them somehow.

I wonder if they are playing a tape of his dad and mom calling like they did when searching for Nadia? Since he is said to be afraid of the police?

Here's the map from the school to his house, at least that's the address White Pages gives for his dad. It's about 4 miles as the crow flies but the drive is twice as far.

I looked up the sex offenders in the area and there are surprisingly few. But as we all know there can be guys in the area who are unaccounted for or who haven't been caught and prosecuted successfully before.

I think this is an old address. On the stepmoms FB page I noticed her mentioning they live on 5 acres.. And by looking at the pictures of the family on the property, it is not in Aloha.

I could not find any other listings though...

Infrared, grid search still turn up no sign of missing Skyline boy

Nearly two days after the 7 year old is believed to have gone missing from Skyline Elementary School in rural Northwest Portland, investigators are still trying to figure out what happened to the smiling second grader after he was last seen here Friday morning.

An entire night and full day has passed since 8:45 a.m. Friday morning when Kyron's step mom says she last saw the boy after taking him through a science fair at school and sent him off to class. His teachers say he never checked in.

Now searchers look through tall grass, from the air and on foot, for any sign of the little boy. The FBI has now joined the search, as has the National Guard. Using an infrared system, heat detection and a search pattern grid to not miss an inch, searchers have completely searched an area of about two miles surrounding the school.

This partially explains why the school did not call the parents about Kyron's absence.

"Portland Public Schools spokesman Matt Shelby said two teachers saw Kyron with his stepmother and thought the two left school together. He said it was common for parents to pick up kids this way, so no suspicions were raised."

Not really. It wouldn't be normal for a parent to "pick up" a child at the *beginning* of the regular classroom period, when he didn't appear to be sick (as far as has been reported) when seen with his stepmother at the science fair.

The wording of the statement above has me wondering just a little, if maybe at least one teacher recalls *seeing* the two on their way out of the school together. THAT would certainly explain why, if any teacher or school official wondered about his absence and suggested may be a call home was in order, that the call wouldn't have been made. It would also raise some huge questions about the stepmother's possible involvement in the disappearance.

One little detail I haven't seen discussed is the outcome of the Science Fair itself. These fairs usually involve awards being given to some students' projects . . . and not others. If this was a geeky, science-oriented little boy, is it possible that he became upset when his project didn't win a ribbon, and ran off because of that?

My son was on a field trip two weeks ago. He came home early with me, and I had to go to the office to sign him out. The teachers/other volunteers were there making sure anyone who left early took care of signing them out at the office.

So people saw him leaving with his stepmother, then nothing, then a 911 call from her? Is that correct?

bbm

No. His stepmother was with him at the school. she left when he was walking to his classroom. There is a picture that was taken of him at the school that morning. Authorities were called when he didn't get off the school bus. They have not released who called 911.

They could have thought the mom was taking him to an appointment, or the family had a long weekend planned, whatever. They clearly recognized her as his parent, in any case. I don't consider it CYA. How many of us would have thought someone would be so bold as to abduct a child from inside a school?

Pretty damned scary when you can't leave your child IN his school.

10:00am?? Anyone know if this is the normal start time or was it just later cuz of the science fair? Seems kind of late to start the school day.

The school my kids go to is also small and I've often taken my kids home early after a field trip or party when nothing else (academically speaking) was planned. I could easily see how people would assume Terry took Kyron home after the science fair. When is the last day at Kyron's school?

I really hope someone clarifies the times he was last seen, by whom and where.

I have a seven year old, too, and I can't even imagine the fear his family must be feeling. Praying for the little guy's safe return!

BBM Nobody saw him leave with her, as far as we know. She was there for the science fair, she left, and presumed he went to class. He didn't come home after school and then 911 ws called.

Hi Pdxmama, I just heard about Kyron tonight on the 6 O'clock news and have been praying for his safe return ASAP.

I live in West Slope, not very far at all from Sylvan so it hits hard him being so far away right now and yet possibly so close to home. I don't know if they are still searching tonight but they were at dusk. Thank goodness they are working his case as a missing child so they are exploring every possibility, probably hard at work as we speak.

I sooooo hope little Kyron is found safe and sound. Such a little man he is with his glasses and great big smile ;} xox

OK, thanks for catching me up. :) How does a child disappear from school? They should be so safe there!

Was Kyron's due off the bus at 3:45?
And the 911 call was made at approx. 3:45?

So...did the parents call 911 immediately after Kyron didn't get off the bus? Due to the quality of reporting, that probably isn't accurate. But...if it is, it seems a little odd to me.

I vividly remember a day my brother, about 8 at the time, didn't come home on the bus. My mom was freaking out (understandably so), but the first call wasn't 911. It was to one of his friend's, to see if he'd gone there. And then to the school.

If the stepmother met the school bus, she may have found out right then and there that nobody had seen him in school all day. Probably other kids who live near him and are in his class, or at least would see him at lunch, ride the same bus. They would have been quick to offer information to the stepmother, because they would have been surprised to see her meeting the bus, if they knew Kyron hadn't been in school since the early morning science fair. Especially if another child who was actually in his class was getting off the bus, the stepmother would surely have asked him/her "where's Kyron?", and if she got the answer "he wasn't in class today", it would have been pretty normal to not waste any time before calling 911.

They don't give awards to kids at this age--possibly in high school, but not before that. It is really more of an exhibit.

Re the photos at post #358: Who is Leslie Liden, and why is her tiny home getting this thorough third-party search treatment? I thought police were asking people to search their *own* homes and properties. That house is tiny, and if it's been occupied by Leslie and her baby since Kyron went missing, he could hardly have gotten inside without her knowledge. Is she someone they have reason to suspect would be deliberately concealing him? Odd . . .

That may vary from school to school. When I was in 6th grade (the only time I recall being in a school where a science fair was held), they definitely were giving awards at least to the 5th and 6th graders. I don't recall if there were any awards for lower grades. It might have been a different set of awards for each grade (i.e. so as not have 2nd graders' projects being compared to 6th graders' projects).
