Sofia,
I read a news piece on an earlier thread last night, and it did mention the Channel. It also said that the National Guard helicopters were hovering low, flying as close to the treeline (at the shore, I took that to mean), as they could. It seems that they were checking to see if a body had washed up there.

That makes sense to me. Especially with all the rain we've had.

The scanner peeps just started their THIRD thread for Kyron: [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106623"]Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community[/ame]

I'm very touched at how much everyone loves little Kyron. We've never had more than one thread on any case in the Scanner Forum before, except for Haleigh Cummings.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I too believe this screams crime of opportunity. I've felt it in my bones since day one.

Now that so many days have passed since my own experience with a serial killer I have to say that only today am I questioning if targeting me was a plan. To think that really freaks me out, but to think that - like I always have - it was a crime of opportunity makes me feel better.

He walked across the parking lot watching me put my young son into my car at 5:30ish am one morning. It was at least a mile away before he bumped me in my car and I never saw his car until that stop sign and I am sure I was NOT paying attention as he didn't alarm me in the parking lot what-so-ever. Only when he hit me "bumped my car bumper" and I got out did something scream out loud. FLEEEEEEE! I was in an old beater, he chased me trying to push me off the road, I tried losing him at a stop sign and he was waiting for me at the next street. He followed me all the way to my moms house and blocked my car in the driveway until she opened her door. Than he slowly drove away. This was a man hell bent on following thru no matter what.

I NEVER WENT TO THE POLICE. Oregon had just enacted a law about car insurance and I didn't have any at that time, so I was too scared to go. I wrote it off as a drunk driver... A month later it happened again but I didn't watch the news. My guy I'd been dating saw it and promptly came and got me and took me straight to SPD. That day I learned what my fate could of been as they had just found Katie, one of his other victims, dead. She had fought so hard that his skin was under her finger nails.

That experience shook me to the core. I buried it and only shared it with certain people after it happened. Why? I am not sure. I am very private. In December of 07 when he (WSS) confessed to a 25 yr old cold crime that had happened just under two years before the ones he committed in 84. When he confessed to that crime it rocked my world as it opened everything back up.

Why am I writing all of this? I guess to show how fast something can happen. He was a serial killer but I truly believe it was a crime of opportunity also. He was a sick sick man who had a need. When the opportunity struck - he took it.

O.M.G. Nellie, I don't know what to say except thank you for feeling comfortable enough to share your experience with us. And Thank You God for keeping Nellie safe in that terrifying encounter. O.M.G.

Speaking of weather, I was just wondering if it was raining between 8:45am -9am the morning of Kyron's disappearance. Just wondered if walking out of the school with an open umbrella would offer the perp some form of cover, especially if walking out with a child. Just an idea.

http://www.wunderground.com/history...tml?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA

Looks like it was light rain until about 8. Then cloudy until about 10 when it begins to rain again.

Would the perp have gotten muddy? They can match muddy shoes/tires to the area it comes from. But I guess a car wash and sneakers in the washing machine would remove the traces.

BBM. That is not what I saw at all. The stepfather spoke directly to Kyron - every sentence in his statement was directly to him. The father said nothing to Kyron whatsoever. Nothing. Not a word - not even I love you. Every sentence the father spoke was thanking the public, LE, the media. He also showed a complete lack of emotion, except perhaps a bit of public speaking nervousness, IMO. The stepfather however, was deeply disturbed, IMO.

It seemed to me the roles of the stepfather and bio father were completely reversed and if I saw that video with no knowledge of this case my immediate conclusion would have been that TY was Kyron's father.

I found that press conference disturbing, on more levels than one. Having said that, I don't necessarily think the behavior and body language of the parents has anything to do with Kyron's disappearance, but I think it does yield clues about the family dynamics.

I agree it says loads about family dynamics but I also believe it offers valuable insight into this investigation.

An open umbrella probably would have drawn attention as most folks out here don't bother with umbrellas. But a person with a hood drawn up over their head and around their face would not be seen as strange.

this case is scaring me to death. how bold if this was a perp! as summer progresses I hope communities keep this case in mind and move toward safer environments for these kids.
I am thinking it might be a good move to enlist the help of the retired folks to be school guards inside and out. Many folks have nothing to do and would be than happy to volunteer their time to just be there.

Father and Stepfather Statements

I transcribed what Kyron's stepfather and father said, directly from this video:
http://www.kgw.com/video/featured-v...ly-speaks-publicly-for-1st-time-96171744.html

Stepfather's statement:

Hello, my name is Tony Young, and I am Kyron's step-father. The family has asked me to speak on their behalf today.

I would just like to say, Kyron, we miss you, we love you, and we need you home right now.

We are doing everything we can to work with law enforcement and the search and the rescue crews to make sure that you can get back to us as soon as possible.

We want to say how much we appreciate the outpouring of love and support, prayer and thoughts, as we wait for you. Your school friends and their families, the teachers, the staff at your school, and the community as a whole have shown how much impact one little boy's smile can have on a community.

You mean everything to us, and until you come home, this family is not complete.

Please, Kyron, keep up the hope. We believe in you and we know you will be back with us soon.

Father's statement:

Hi. I'm Kaine. I'm Kyron's father.

We want to thank the community, the parents, the children, the bus drivers, and all of those who are being interviewed multiple times to help find Kyron. Thank you. We as the family know how difficult and stressful this is, but memories and statements can help find Kyron. We will never be able to thank you enough for that help.

Finally, we would like to thank the media. If it was not for you showing Kyron on every newscast, printing his story in the papers, his face would not be known to everyone. People from around the nation have seen his picture. This helps tremendously. Please help us bring Kyron home.

IMHO, speaking directly to Kyron shows hope that he is alive, thanking the media and NOT speaking to Kyron reflects someone in "clean up" mode who knows more than is telling and doesn't have expectation that Kyron is coming home. JMOO

I also found that pc very disturbing, but I can't quite put my finger on why. You did make some good points, but I got the feeling of a seething mass of conflicting emotions going on under the facade they paraded before us.

Disturbing is a very good word, just not sure how to apply it in the no-nothing context we have.

I just want to say that I have been in the position of a tragedy involving a child, where there are two sets of parents, mother & stepfather, and father & stepmother. There may be bad blood there, there may not be... but the situation is awkward, and uncomfortable at best. But you come together anyway... you forget the resentment toward the other side and stand together because you HAVE to. There will be little awkward moments which will be noticed by others, and that's too bad... but you have to hold your head up and get through it. I'm sure that these two sets of parents are not ordinarily close friends, and the situation is very awkward for all of them. Therefore what many perceive as suspicious body language & such, may just be due to having been thrown together at such a difficult time, having to be put on public display combined with the terror of a child being missing. I don't think anyone should be criticized or analyzed during times like this... they aren't concentrating on how they come across to the rest of the world... they are focusing their attention on finding this lost little boy. And that is how it should be.

So true. Did she take the baby to the science fair and on the 'errands'? Or the baby went to daycare or stayed home with the father. Just wondering where the baby was that day.

me too

Is there going to be a presser today?

If this has been posted already forgive me. Does anyone know whether the location where Jim Kelly stated he saw the white pickup with a boy inside who looked like kyron is a route that leads to Sauvie Island? If not, where in relation to the Island did he see the truck? TIA

Nope - get rid of that link.

Wow, you're instincts saved you. How horrible for you and I'm so sorry. I've wondered before if mods would let us do a thread on "things" that have happened to us because only recently in retrospect did I realize I had apparently been targeted once but since my husband was home the perp moved on. Stories such as yours would be useful in helping others stay safe.

I just want to say I am so sorry for what the family is going through. I pray for Kyrons safe return. I also want to add that I received a letter in the mail from my son's high school on Friday. It said they will now be doing calling on the day your child is not at school, not the day after. I live in San Antonio, TX. While this story is so sad to me I also think it will help make changes in our school system. The school failed Kyron.

Wow, I had never seen that map before. Looking at it, it becomes more obvious to me than ever that the LE must think that Kyron either got lost, or was taken by someone who is STILL in the area. They have been explicit in saying they were not planning on the search being national, and they haven't even checked other parts of Portland. There is definitely a perimeter going on. I find it interesting that they haven't searched west of Hwy 26. A person could drive onto Hwy 26, but a child certainly couldn't cross it. If there is a POI that we're not being told about, that person(s) must have been on a tight timetable.

Kyron, Kyron, where are you?!
