OR - Kyron Horman, 7 yo Second grader, Portland, 4 June 2010 - Part #5

Okay, this puzzles me. I would think the response would be, "We hope we find him today - we're searching constantly" or "Each day we hope we'll solve this." But to extend the timeframe to the end of the week... seems odd. Like they know they won't solve it today or tomorrow. KWIM?

Question about Community safety concerns
Telling parents educate your children, talking in general terms, we should always be talking to our children about stranger danger, buddy system, etc

Not searching outside the metro (?) area

Not searching outside the metro area, but want tips from folks as far away as Central Oregon, ok, and not Eastern Oregon, but Cental.
Perhaps Portlanders think differently than folks further south.
There is a prison in Madras, Oregon which is Central Oregon, but for the most part there aren't too many people there.
I wonder if they think Mt. Hood or Dalles is "Central Oregon."
ok, probably not important, I just find it strange, and wonder if they suspect someone who has ties to "Central Oregon" is all.

That really confuses me. No matter what, this child is somewhere he is not supposed to be, and that is a crime.
I know we've heard from the stepmom's mom but does anybody think there is any chance another relative (but not the bio-mom) took Kyron for some good intentioned reason? Maybe they suspected some kind of abuse in the home (not that there really is). You'd think that if something like that did happen they would contact LE because of all of the publicity but stranger things have happened.

I think the chance of this is very small but it's worth mentioning given LE statements.

What surprised me is that during the noon news they were saying that Springfield (2 hours south of Portland) has the auto calling for absent kids and it doesn't go through until after 6 PM. It didn't sound like they planned on changing that either!

Where I live (south eastern WA) I don't get the call until 6pm if it is my high school student. I am usually called by 9 am if elementary age child is not there at roll call. I guess I assume the difference is that the older child may have skipped and that call is for me to have knowledge of the absence, while the younger child might have been taken from his bus stop, or while walking to school if we lived close enough.

I assume they are referring to the school staff members. He did for sure say staff members.

The question (asked twice) was whether there were staff members or parents that LE had not yet spoken with and the sheriff said 'all of the above'.
He did not limit the unquestioned people to staff only.

staff members?
from the school?
I hope you heard that wrong.

Could be temps, subs, contract employees, people who are out of town, people not working that day but they still want to talk to, possibly to show photos and videos of who was at the fair to see if anyone notices a person who doesn't belong. Stuff like that?

Lol...Im in E. Oregon, but was thinking central O. is where Im at...but it makes sense why some would think of Mt. Hoods and Dalles area as central, I can see that. I also understand Madras, which, yes, is very small...well, the dalles isnt that big either.

I could have it wrong, but I was typing as he was talking and I heard staff members. I did not hear the question, but in the answer I heard staff members.

Posters:

We mods have posted time and time again NOT to point fingers at Kyron's family. We have also posted that we have ZERO TOLERANCE for this kind of behavior at WS.

No pointing fingers. No casting aspersions. No implications of guilt. No second-guessing how they should be living their lives and what they should be saying or doing. No. No. No.

I just processed 25 timeouts and won't hesitate to give another hundred should the situation warrant it.

The first rule in our TOS is "be a decent person." How about giving it a shot once I reopen this thread?

For anyone who may have missing this from just a short while ago when the thread was closed.

I strongly recommend self-editing your own posts.

"wrapped up" seemed odd to me

He really reiterated this point - it was like he started to say we hope to have this wrapped up - and in mid sentence he kind of backed up and said I would hope to or my hope would be. It sounded like he was trying to emphasize that this is what 'he' hoped would be the case.

I was able again to watch the live presser. And, again, this was an interesting conference. I am not certain I believe that the principle's choice of words earlier were as simple as a miscommunication or, rather, a "misuse of words." However, if they feel they need to keep this close to the vest, then who am I to question them?

The comment about the family speaking out tomorrow made me feel uncomfortable. My gut instinct tells me that LE knows who Kyron is with, but possibly not where he is being kept. And, even if they're not sure of the person, this leads me to believe that they have much more information than what is being given out at this time. The way I felt about Gates stating that the family would be speaking tomorrow was almost as if he were talking to whomever has Kyron. I could be completely off base here, but that's where my head is at. And, that's a good thing because I'm beginning to wonder if they know Kyron is, at this point, still alive. And, that is cause of relief because I have been having an increasing feeling over the last day or two that Kyron was no longer with us.

Also, the comment that he would like to see this case "wrapped up" by the end of the week is also odd. How can someone put a time-stamp on a situation such as this one? Of course, we are all hoping Kyron will be found immediately. But, to use the words that he did made it seem as though the entire case would be wrapped up by the end of the week -- meaning Kyron is found and an charges are filed. It was an interesting choice of words and I'm not completely sure how I am reading into his statement as of yet.

All in all, I feel like LE has information about who Kyron may be with, but not information on his exact location. They're being very tight-lipped and I can only hope that it is to protect Kyron and any other involved persons (ie. family). I do not feel the family is involved...at all. But, I think LE knows who is. I can't help but feel that a lot of these pressers are being used as smoke screens to cover what is actually happening in this investigation. And, yes, I strongly feel we are dealing with a criminal investigation.

I truly hope that this case will be "wrapped up" by the end of the week. And, I hope that Kyron is located safe and sound as soon as possible with whomever took him being charged in short order. I feel a bit "taken" by the tug-of-war of information that is being released and held back. But, LE and the FBI know what they're doing. And, just like Kyron's family, all we can do right now is trust that.

How many more days will you continue to...... (can't hear)

Gates: Continue investigation until we have resolution. My hope is we have this wrapped up by end of week.

Interesting slip of the tongue, imo.

"wrapped up" gives me the impression that they know "who" even if they don't know "where" Kyron is.

That was the first time I have heard of an 'Almost Amber Alert'. Is that in Oregon only or???

As far as the "wrapped up by the end of the week" comment, it sounds to me like LE is trying to act like they don't have a good grasp on the case, when most likely they do. That's a common tactic.
