That's weird! Where are these staff that they still need to contact???

Who knows? But I doubt it's anyone who was at the school on Friday -- surely they'd have been at the top of the priority list. Could be school district employees whose jobs involve multiple schools, rather than just working at one specific school. I.e. people who may have had occasional contact with Kyron and other students at the school, who they just want to ask if they can remember anything about him (or about some other student or staff member who's suspected of involvement) that might possibly be helpful. Maybe groundskeepers, who periodically mow the area around this and other schools, and they just want to sit down with them and prompt them to think about what they've seen in the immediate vicinity of the school in recent days or weeks.

I'm starting to wonder if the family has received a ransom note or call. That would explain bringing in the FBI and not giving out a lot of details. This could mean Kyron is still alive and unharmed (I pray!!!) at an unknown location!! I want to believe anything that means Kyron could come home safely.

I was able again to watch the live presser. And, again, this was an interesting conference. I am not certain I believe that the principle's choice of words earlier were as simple as a miscommunication or, rather, a "misuse of words." However, if they feel they need to keep this close to the vest, then who am I to question them?

The comment about the family speaking out tomorrow made me feel uncomfortable. My gut instinct tells me that LE knows who Kyron is with, but possibly not where he is being kept. And, even if they're not sure of the person, this leads me to believe that they have much more information than what is being given out at this time. The way I felt about Gates stating that the family would be speaking tomorrow was almost as if he were talking to whomever has Kyron. I could be completely off base here, but that's where my head is at. And, that's a good thing because I'm beginning to wonder if they know Kyron is, at this point, still alive. And, that is cause of relief because I have been having an increasing feeling over the last day or two that Kyron was no longer with us.

Also, the comment that he would like to see this case "wrapped up" by the end of the week is also odd. How can someone put a time-stamp on a situation such as this one? Of course, we are all hoping Kyron will be found immediately. But, to use the words that he did made it seem as though the entire case would be wrapped up by the end of the week -- meaning Kyron is found and an charges are filed. It was an interesting choice of words and I'm not completely sure how I am reading into his statement as of yet.

All in all, I feel like LE has information about who Kyron may be with, but not information on his exact location. They're being very tight-lipped and I can only hope that it is to protect Kyron and any other involved persons (ie. family). I do not feel the family is involved...at all. But, I think LE knows who is. I can't help but feel that a lot of these pressers are being used as smoke screens to cover what is actually happening in this investigation. And, yes, I strongly feel we are dealing with a criminal investigation.

I truly hope that this case will be "wrapped up" by the end of the week. And, I hope that Kyron is located safe and sound as soon as possible with whomever took him being charged in short order. I feel a bit "taken" by the tug-of-war of information that is being released and held back. But, LE and the FBI know what they're doing. And, just like Kyron's family, all we can do right now is trust that.

I agree with this post. Gates is the same LEO who came out on Saturday and made a Fruiedian (sp) slip, that no one mentioned here, but made me think he thought he was dead. He was visibly upset and nervous. That was the presser in the church, thread two.

Today he looks calm, and in contol, even though he says he doesn't know where Kyron is. moo

Isn't the FBI called in when there is a possible abduction and the child is taken over states line? Why would the FBI be called in?

The school has afternoon programs that involve volunteers as well.
I would imagine they would be included as "staff" members.

His demeanor has certainly changed from the first presser, when he was yucking it up with the reporters and camera folks. I don't think that he knew that the camera was on, and he was joking and laughing with the crews that were there--do you guys remember that?

I think it's telling, too. I think he knows that the outcome of this is not going to be good. It rips my heart out for Kyron's mom, dad, and siblings.

Is this a normal procedure? Are they waiting for a ransom call?

Very good question. I didn't think of that but I did think it was a little odd they have someone with them 24x7. Is that standard? Or if they have reason to believe this family was specifically targeted and could be in danger?

That item has been circulated, but not confirmed by LE.
Oddly enough, CNN is the source I trust least on this story. The Fox12 station seems to have grabbed it. KGW will have the most raw video. And, they have probably the best journalists, but Kyle Iboshi from KOIN seems to have been doing a good job too (KOIN just prepackages too much of their regular news). KATU usually does the best job with local news but aren't doing such a good job on this story.

"The sheriff added that they've determined Kyron was last seen late Friday morning near his classroom by the south entrance of the school."

They haven't said exactly who saw him, but it looks like someone did.

Non-Family Child Abductions

It’s a fearsome thought: a child snatched by a stranger. Who investigates these crimes? We do. It’s our job to handle cases of child abductions.

In 1932, Congress gave the FBI jurisdiction under the “Lindbergh Law” to immediately investigate any reported mysterious disappearance or kidnapping involving a child of “tender age”—usually 12 or younger. And just to be clear, before we get involved there does NOT have to be a ransom demand and the child does NOT have to cross state lines or be missing for 24 hours.

Introducing the CARD Teams

Child abductions by strangers are often complex and high-profile cases. And time is of the essence.

That’s why we’ve added another tool in our Crimes Against Children program that helps our local field offices in these cases: our Child Abduction Rapid Deployment, or CARD, teams.

I really don't think that a ransom note or call is involved. I don't think LE would let Terri go to the gym if it were that kind of situation, especially because she posted about it on her FB and people would know where she was going to be. I also don't think that LE would send SAR into those horrific brambles and brush if they knew that it was a ransom situation.

Well NO NEW INFO there. Disappointing.

Sounds like they do have NEW INFO we haven't learned of yet, eh? Evidently it would hinder the investigation if they let it out to the public.

The poor principal. He/She is probably traumatized by what has happened and emotional and so could easily blurt out something they don't want out there. On the other hand, how could a principal run a lower school and let the whole day go by without calling the parents to see why the child isn't in school. Flipping amazing that is, especially when he had a project in the Science Fair !!!

ETA: Forgot to say Hi Jules ;}

Off Topic:
I think we should have a support group in the basement for spouses of us sleuthers who don't understand why we do what we do and can't just STOP.

Does anyone who is local know if dogs are still being used in the search? Are they tracking, cadaver or both?

respectfully snipped...

I think the "tender age" thing is why the FBI is involved, especially considering that the agent said on Saturday that Kyron was of "tender age."

That stood out to me--I thought, what a strange term.

Yes, I think it is very good that the FBI was brought in. They have a lot more resources than local dept. and more experience.

I think it is pretty normal to have someone w/ the family just in case a ransom call comes in. I could be wrong but, that would be my guess.

I'm kind of on the fence. I'm not sure if there has been a ransom request and they do not want that to get out; or, if they know something bad has happened to Kyron and the do not expect a good outcome.

At this point, I think we can only speculate ... and Pray!

I would be checking out the janitorial staff and kitchen staff. I wonder if there are any elevator shafts in the school? I wonder if he ever left the school or was grabbed by someone who worked right there.

Strange case.
