Found Deceased OR - Matthew Lang, 33, Bend, 27 Oct 2020 *car found badly crashed*

Wonder if he was ever in the car.

Wouldn't it be extremely unlikely he wasn't? It crashed, someone had to be driving it, he's now missing... Of course his family wants confirmation, understandably, but I can only imagine a few scenarios for what happened after he crashed, and only one that seems likely.

I think LE needs to bring dogs out there if they haven't already.

All just my opinions here.

-- His shoe, and sweater with glass in it, were found down hill from the accident
-- Police have said they believe the driver window was knocked out from the inside

Sounds like he bashed his head bad and walked away confused.
But his missing ID and cash, the unsuccessful searches with dogs and drones and on foot, and no one knowing what he was doing hours away from home... ??

eta: Site of crash on left side. He was driving north, but judging by the pictures seems like the truck was on the wrong side for some time.

This does make it sound like he was able to get out of the vehicle and walk away, but he had to have been pretty banged up by the looks of that vehicle.

I wonder what's down the hill from the crash site? Just woods? Could he have been attacked by an animal, maybe a bear, cougar, or wolf?

It sounds like he had some pretty severe injuries from that crash, and he probably wondered away in a state of confusion, collapsed at some point and likely passed after succumbing to his injuries. This isn't unheard of, but I can't think of specific cases/names right now.

I'd love to be wrong and him be alive and okay somewhere, but nothing else really makes sense.

It sure does sound like he made it out of the vehicle.
IMO, he has some major injuries/concussion/internal injuries from the accident and has wandered off.
He may have been coherent enough to grab his DL and cash out of his wallet with hopes of getting some help.
Not sure why phone would be left in the vehicle unless he couldn't find it as he was trying to crawl out so he just left it.
I worry he wandered off and succumbed to the injuries.
Praying he is found soon.
My heart breaks for his family.

Admittedly did not read the article linked... that said, do we know if anyone witnessed the crash? If not, is it possible someone/something made him crash and picked him up/removed him from the crash site.
If nothing else played a part and it was purely driver error, perhaps he wasn't restrained and was ejected and has yet to be found. He could have even been in decent condition and started walking, not knowing he had a concussion or head trauma, etc.

All of the above are strictly speculation on my end.

I would think an accident investigator would look for tire tracks/skids/signs of braking. It is really hard to say what someone else would do under the best of circumstances, but even harder to guess what someone with a head injury would do. Rationally, you would try to get back to the road for help. Maybe he made it back to road and walked in either direction for some distance before moving off road again for water? shelter?

The odds would be 99% of ppl who stopped would attempt to help in some fashion, but I guess there is a chance he crossed paths with the other 1% of ppl that would see a predatory opportunity?

To me it is still most likely that he is somewhere near the crash and just hasn't been found.

I sincerely hope he is brought home soon.

I can't think of the names, but I have followed at least 2 separate cases of vehicle crashes where the body was found long after the crash. One I believe was found a year after even though searches were performed right after. I remember following a case where the brother of a victim searched again and again and again until he found his sister. I would be surprised to see if he is found alive after this long, but it is also not impossible. It seems like an extreme way to stage a disappearance. Prayers that they find answers for his family soon.

There is the case of Maura Murray who has never been found. Her case is very mysterious to me.

I’m baffled about the shoe and sweater filled with glass. Apparently this was found in an area before his car started crossing the lines and losing control. Interesting comments on the help find Facebook page. The shoe and sweater make me wonder if they weren’t left there from being thrown from the vehicle. But I’ve read comments that others speculate he walked away disoriented with a head injury and someone picked him up
Down the road. Although i hope that he is alive and safe, I have a hard time envisioning it.

I had a close friend who missed the curve when getting on the interstate. His vehicle was not nearly as bad shape as these photos but he did flip and was ejected. There happened to be a MD in the truck behind him when he wrecked. I met him, very nice young doctor. He stopped and performed cpr at the site. My friend wouldn’t have survived more than likely if that doctor hadn’t been there. However that was almost 3 years ago and he’s still in a rehab center with permanent brain injury and is unable to walk (my friend was 29 at the time of the accident). So very sad. I remember they were unable to find his phone and some other items that were thrown with him.

Crazy to think bodies aren’t found for long periods of time sometimes. Of course I live in the flat lands and there aren’t a lot of hiding spots around here. Someone had a good idea with reconstructing the accident and trying to figure out where he could have been thrown.

'People don't just disappear' family searches for Matthew Lang after crash on Hwy 62

Matthew’s newly bought Ford Explorer was found alone without him in it, and according to his mother, Diane Lang, police found his phone inside the truck.

“People don’t just disappear, they don’t! He spoke to his girlfriend and his coworker Josh on Monday, he went to work on Monday, then we have no idea where he went, the police have his phone but they aren’t convinced this is a crime, so they can’t get a warrant to get into his phone to find out where he was,” Diane said.

His family from California came into Southern Oregon to look for him, and Diane said they found his wallet and sweater in the area near the crash site.

“We don’t have any proof that he was in the car, the police can't run his DNA, they don’t have the resources just to run his DNA, they won’t take the fingerprints off of the steering wheel because they said it is a new car and if they run the fingerprints they might have two missing persons, they won't run the blood found to see if it is Matthew’s,” she said.

"Somebody had to see something, I just find it so odd that somebody was driving past it at 6 in the morning and didn’t call it in, it wasn’t called in till 5:30 in the evening,” Diane said. “What’s really confusing to me is that search and rescue used dogs to find him and didn’t find anything but my husband, his brother, and family found Matthew’s stuff near the crash site.”

Thanks to a truck driver familiar with the area, the Help Find page recently got the following info-

Here's the pin of where he went off the road:

Across from it is very steep terrain going to the lake:

Red circle is where they found his vehicle:

So it’s quite possible he may have ended up in the water?? Has the lake been searched?
