New idea: Infiltrate the occupation by having armed members of the Audubon Society pose as Patriot Militia.

So brave! Gonna fight the big bad govmint but too scared to show his face on the teevee.

In all seriousness, though, I fear these guys are going to provoke a shootout because they'd rather die than have to live with the mockery they will face for the rest of their lives.

So--if they're doing this according to their Mormon beliefs, isn't this radical Mormon terrorism?

from the article:

One of the militants, identified as 55-year-old LaVoy Finicum told MSNBC that he believed that warrants had been issued for not only himself, but Ammon Bundy and his brother Ryan. Finicum, who was interviewed with a rifle protuding from his tarp, also said that he would prefer death to being arrested.

Is that a rifle or are you just happy to...oh, never mind.

BBM.

I suspect you are spot-on.

And, like all radical nuts, the ideal of martyrdom appeals to them.

Most of the men who joined the Bundy brothers in occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge are relative unknowns.
There is, however, a glaring exception: Jon Ritzheimer.

But unlike his new compatriots in the standoff in eastern Oregon, nobody seems to have known that Ritzheimer — a patriotically tattooed Marine from Arizona with a penchant for posting melodramatic videos online — was passionate about federal land disputes.

What he has displayed extreme passion for is Muslims. Namely, expressing his contempt for them and their beliefs.

Is he the one who said he was gonna shoot Hilary in her vajayjay?

I am too tired and lazy to Google. And that's pretty darned lazy. And sad.

Night, y'all. :offtobed:

On Tuesday, local officials announced that schools, closed since the occupation began Saturday, would reopen Monday. Harney County Sheriff David M. Ward scheduled a community meeting Wednesday to answer townspeople’s questions and signaled that police didn’t intend to wait forever.

“If this goes on any longer, it will have an even greater impact on our tourism and [the] local economy,” he told Oregon Public Broadcasting. “Further attention is what these folks are seeking.”

Ward said the FBI was preparing a criminal case against those occupying several buildings. “The bureau has assured me that those at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge will at some point face charges,” he said.

No, that was Pete Santilli.

He's on scene, too, though. More or less.

Along with Joe Oshaugnessy aka Capt O.

FWIW, I was raised Mormon. IMO, the Bundys are fundamentalist Mormons. Mormons have always been radical IMO. Mormons now, have disregarded what their dead prophets have said and just go by their living prophet's prophecy, which is pretty much nothing. Bundys are really old school.
