I love how they keep saying that the only violence will be if LE tries to return federal property to the government.

So basically, the armed criminals are gonna blame LE for any skirmish or causalties when it is time for them to come in and uphold the laws of the land?

Well, then, let's just let all armed criminals have their way. Lately only the unarmed ones are getting shot.

These terrorists have some gall.

Local perspectives:

The Burns Paiute Tribe has denounced the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

Rodrique said she told a friend she was offended by the militants’ notion that they could return the refuge lands to their rightful owners.

“I’m sitting here trying to write an acceptance letter for when they return all this land to us,” Rodrique.

The council said the tribe sees the wildlife federal managers of the refuge as good partners.

“We look at them as a protector of our cultural sites in that area,” Rodrique said. She expressed concerns about the cultural artifacts in the refuge.

"They just need to get the hell out of here," said Jarvis Kennedy, a member of the tribal council. "They didn't ask anybody, we don't want them here...our little kids are sitting at home when they should be in school."

The tribe once occupied a large swath of land that includes the Malheur National Wildlife refuge — archaeological evidence dates back 6,000 years — but they were forced out in the late 1870s. Before settlers arrived, the tribe used it as a wintering ground, said Charlotte Rodrique, the tribal chair.

"We as a tribe view that this is still our land no matter who's living on it," Rodrique said.

Search #tarpman on twitter.

Trust me.

OMG. Some have suggested that they could live off land to continue standoff, IMO no way, that guy failed big time in blending into surroundings. It blows my mind that media is wandering about and this armed guy under a blue tarp with no way to see whats around him. Worse and dangerous security ever.

As I've said before, BLM is your average screwed up Fed agency, but these guys want land returned to the people. Isn't being a wetlands preserve open to the people? Heck, the gift shop is right there. These guys just want more grazing acreage, wetlands and America's wild horses be damned. I'm sorry they've lost their leases, but to say this is about government seizing "their/our" land is BS.

While looking for information on Robert LaVoy Finicum (blue tarp man), I happened upon the following article, by far one of the most interesting articles I have read on the 'history' aspect of all this. It is helpful in sorting things out, to see how things connect.

Constitutional Crisis in the Heart of Dixie
September 4, 2015
By Chris Zinda

“A civil war has been underway in the American West for the past 150 years and “sovereign” activists are gearing up for the Western Freedom Festival this October in Cedar City, Utah – the heart of Dixie. (Note: Last October 2015)

It is no coincidence this event is happening during a presidential election season. And, it is no coincidence it is being organized by Utah politicians.

The West’s Dixie

To understand why the “sovereign” movement’s focus has moved from the South and to the West let’s take a moment for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) history.”

Snippet re: Finicum:

“A lesser-known LDS rancher and seditionist in the Arizona Strip has also been making similar claims as Bundy. LaVoy Finicum has become semi-famous in the states rights circles through supporting Bundy. He has recently published a book just in time for the Western Freedom Festival titled, “Only By Blood and Suffering: Regaining Lost Freedom,” where he describes a family struggling to survive during a “national crisis….in the face of devastating end-times chaos.” [5]

In an August YouTube video, Finicum emphatically states the public lands on which he is standing are “his land”. [6] He, too, has not been paying his grazing fees and has been issued letters from the BLM to either pay up or get off. He’s not and his deadlines are fast approaching. Watch for him to call upon the Oath Keepers for help.

An Oath Keeper on which he can depend is former Graham County, Arizona Sheriff Richard Mack who is head of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Police Officers Association, board member of the Oath Keepers and a Mormon. A confirmed white supremacist, he engages in sedition through encouraging current law enforcement officials to not enforce federal law. Said Mack, “These are now sheriffs who are learning and willing to learn how to become oath keeper sheriffs.” [7]

In short, seditionist groups are having success recruiting current military and law enforcement personnel, that then leads to law enforcement professionals to be reticent in not only upholding lawful orders but also acting upon them. It is highly likely that the professions and their bureaucracies have been and are being infiltrated.”

Excellent find! Thank you. I've been reading up on the LDS connection too.

And rsbm wrt to the veterans who join them:

Meet the veterans who have joined the Oregon militiamen

“A lot of our research on these guys turns up evidence that they usually fail at their military careers and for some reason they like to get back in the camo and strut around with devices and awards they didn’t earn,” said Jonn Lilyea, one of the moderators for This Ain’t Hell, a veteran watchdog site. “Especially if they can openly carry their guns, too.”

For example..

Blaine Cooper: According to Lilyea, Cooper’s records show that he was enlisted to join the Marines in what is called the “Delayed Entry Program,” or DEP, but never attended bootcamp.

Ryan Payne: During the Bundy standoff, Lilyea says that Payne told reporters he had served as an elite Army Ranger but after some digging by former Rangers, Payne was found to be, in fact, not one.

Both the of these links are excellent reading and make clear why this occupation is a serious matter and is about more than the refuge near Burns. These should be required reading IMO. Thanks!

http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-n...rt_already_ruled_th.html#incart_story_package

Great expository piece by The Oregonian on how it came to be that SCOTUS has ruled twice on ownership and management of the Malheur refuge.

Rule of law. Imagine that.

The twitter account was not the real Ammon Bundy

"Bundy chuckled a bit when asked about the phony Ammon Bundy who caused a stir on Twitter when he compared the occupiers to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

“First of all, I don’t have a (Twitter) account,” he said. “But from what I hear, he’s been doing a pretty good job.”"

Funny how the only media outlet to check was the NY Daily News and all the mainstream media fell for it.

Well, I àm totally confused by this entire case. My first thoughts after seeing that the Hammond's served their sentence and are now being ordered to serve more time is double jeapordy. Then I see the supreme Court upheld the extended sentence. Now I see that the Hammond's are not connected with the Bunbdys and wish they would stop. I can't make heads or tales of this situation

The Hammonds were originally sentenced to 5 years in prison which is the minimum sentence for arson on federal lands. This sentence was agreed upon by all parties while the jury was still deliberating during the trial. A local judge reduced the sentence. The feds appealed and the Supreme Court upheld the original sentence so the Hammonds had to go back to prison to complete their term. :jail:

You're correct however, the Bundy Bunch, occupying the refuge has little to nothing to do with the Hammonds situation. HTH!

I think just disregard the Hammonds from the Bundy war games. Like the Sherriff said, the Bundys came under false pretences of supporting the Hammonds.

OT. I was driving through a semi rural area today and right off the road I saw a blue tarp covering something, I just started laughing. :floorlaugh:

Tweet from @ryanjhaas:
Restaurant owner: Ranchers shouldn't get to use the land for free.
That gets a little grumbling from some audience members.

Grumbling! I guess restaurant owners are outnumbered by ranchers.

Ranchers should use the land for free. GAH. Steeped in entitlement and privilege. Two things you'd think these hardworking, self-reliant, salt of the earth types would want no part of.

Not sure but, The Blue Tarp (Tarpman) might be on Lawrence O'Donnell's show again tonight.
