Too bad Cliven didn't think of that in December. There was no need for an armed standoff, Cliven could just have sent more letters and arranged a notarized occupation.

Today I learned this about Federal Court Laws:

“Authorities arrested 11 people last week on a criminal complaint charging them with felony conspiracy. They were accused of using intimidation to prevent federal officers from doing their work at the refuge in sparsely populated southeast Oregon.

In a criminal complaint, defendants have a right to a preliminary hearing in which they can question the arresting officer under oath about probable cause for the charges.

After an indictment, they are no longer entitled to such a proceeding.

The cancellation of preliminary hearings that had been scheduled for Wednesday dismayed attorneys for the accused.”​

After the hearing, Ammon Bundy's lawyer said he was disturbed that the court has detained his client partly because it believes he's at risk for not returning, yet when he wants to appear in court, he's not allowed to do so.

I would think the FBI or whoever has told them by now. Or did they stop communicating with them too? I have no idea how that works, do they jam the phone signals?

I would guess the FBI are using the USA PATRIOT Act to monitor all of their communications. In which case, the FBI agents would just have to hit the disconnect button.
