Othram - General Discussion - #3

Great question. We are starting with solved cases because the episodes can include law enforcement and family members. We are excited to tell these stories in such a unique way -- from the perspective of the families, friends, and investigators.

We will also do ongoing cases but it is harder to get folks to agree to interview when the case is not solved yet.
Oh yes, I can understand that. I was just wondering. Thank you.

''LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Science is an essential tool in solving cold cases.
Whether it's composite sketches, forensic genealogy, or even 3D crime scene mapping, investigative efforts are evolving.
However, Michael Murphy, who was the Clark County coroner from 2002 to 2015, said it all starts with the initial tests.
"You want fingerprints, DNA, you want dental identification, dental records, and all types of x-rays," he said.''

''According to NamUs, there are more than 15,000 unidentified persons in the United States.
"It's been spoken to on federal levels as the silent pandemic," Murphy said. "It's something that people don't really know about."
Cutting-edge technology is helping make breakthroughs.

Houston-based lab Othram has been using forensic genealogy to identify remains, including cases here in Southern Nevada''.

Honored that Othram could support TBI and the Knox County Regional Forensic Center in identifying a 2019 John Doe as John Troutman, born in 1952. Special thanks to U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett for advocating for funding for this and other cases.

After more than two years, Othram is proud to share its involvement in assisting Idaho State Police Forensic Services & Moscow PD in identifying the person responsible for the murders of four University of Idaho students: 20-year-old Ethan Chapin, 21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves, 20-year-old Xana Kernodle, and 21-year-old Madison Mogen. This case was an early example of being able to work current cases, real-time.

Second case for today!

Honored that Othram could assist the Shasta County Sheriff's Office in identifying the suspect in the 1984 homicide of a young man and the sex assault of his female friend. Remarkably, the suspect is alive and has been arrested. This case was funded by Project 525.

Well I guess this is good. To finally catch this despicable creature.
He is obviously in poor health, and now the State will take care of him.

Othram has had a long-standing relationship with the Michigan State Police and we are grateful to be able to share that we assisted in what MSP is saying is the oldest unsolved Michigan sex assault case resolved through forensic genetic genealogy.
