Genomics and forensics are converging, creating amazing and powerful new tools for criminal justice. Challenges already solved in genomics now translate directly to forensics, making this the perfect time for genomics experts to explore careers in justice and public safety. The Othram research team writes about this trend in our latest research paper.

Genomics will forever reshape forensic science and criminal justice

Sorry if off-topic. Is there a way to volunteer with Othram or be a non-paid intern?

No problem. A lot of people have accessed about this and we are trying to create more opportunities and we want them to be paid opportunities ideally.

We will post opportunities as they become available but you can always reach out to [email protected] and submit your interests and ideas and we keep all this for when opportunities arise.

Anyone have guesses on what this will be?
Hotel room, NM, Becca? Just a hopeful guess.

But of course, Mary Anderson is very important to all of us and has been such a big question mark for so long.

I’m so curious now.

Honored that Othram could assist the Office of the State Attorney for the 4th Judicial Circuit and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in identifying the suspect in the 1994 murder of Tina Heins. Tina was a pregnant 20-year-old, newly married to a Navy serviceman, who was sexually assaulted and stabbed 27 times in this gruesome crime. Another individual was wrongfully convicted, but thanks to the Innocence Project and the State Attorney’s Office, that conviction was overturned. Using Othram’s technology, investigators were finally able to identify the true suspect.

Answers. Vindication. True justice. For 30 years that guy has been unknown. I'm looking forward to these and additional charges that will likely be brought against him - he was dangerous in 1994 (and probably before) and has been dangerous ever since. THANK YOU for your work in stopping him.

One more for today!

Honored that Othram could assist the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office and FBI in identifying a 1982 homicide victim as Danny Joe Jentzen, born in 1954.

In our latest Othram research post, we cover a key NY court ruling: the state’s Public Health Law applies to medical labs, not forensic DNA labs. Forensic SNP evidence from non-NY labs is admissible, which is great news for NY agencies expanding the use of forensic genetic genealogy in their casework.

What is the Scope of New York’s Public Health Law in Forensic DNA Testing?
