Since Othram helped identify Roger Neil Schmidt earlier this year, he was arrested and has now pleaded guilty to murder and sexual assault, receiving a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. This is why we can't leave cases unsolved.

After 40 years, a 1984 Murder & Rape Suspect is Identified

Earlier this year, Othram helped identified “Peaches” as Tanya Jackson and her daughter Tatiana found near Gilgo Beach. This past week, the child’s biological father, Andrew Dykes, was arrested in Florida, charged with Jackson’s 1997 murder.

Tanya's thread: Victim "Peaches" IDd as Tanya Denise Jackson, and toddler IDd as Tatiana Marie Dykes, found Hempstead Lake State Park, June 1997 #4

Tatiana's thread: UID Victim: The Female Toddler, UP9704, found Gilgo Beach Apr 2011

These Does being identified meant a lot to a lot of people, but to have a suspect in custody is just amazing to me. I honestly didn't expect that.

We have been tracking long term outcomes for a while. See our recently published research study:

We find that in our dataset of 477 UHR cases, more than 25% of the time a suspect is identified.

Oh, I believe it, it's just with older cases, there's a chance that too much evidence - both physical and intangible - has been lost. And even if a suspect is identified, sometimes they're deceased.

To walk someone up the steps at all, let alone so swiftly after victim identification, is a big feather in everyone's caps, from the DNA techs to shoeleather detectives trying to revive memories from thirty years ago.
