Found Deceased PA - Dakota James, 23, Pittsburgh, 25 Jan 2017 #2

I am still in shock he was found in the water because I was so sure he wouldn't be. I know that area well and you really have to make a point to get down to the riverwalk and I don't know why someone would venture down there close to midnight alone. He could have gone to the bathroom in the alley, or as it was still early, there were still bars open he would have passed along his route.
I guess now that he has been found they won't release much info to the general public, unless they discover a criminal act was involved.
I really hope they can figure out who he was texting on that surveillance video.
I also find it curious the phone and wallet did not fall out after he was in the water for however long.

If the police had information that they couldn't reveal to the family before, perhaps they might be able to do so now that his body has been recovered. Anything to help that family.

When I first came to this forum, I was convinced that DJ must have gone to the river to urinate. They say that judgement is the first thing that's compromised when you're intoxicated. I assumed that perhaps he made an ill-advised decision to urinate at the riverfront if he was embarrassed to do so on the streets or in the alley. But after reading the posts here and talking to friends, I now agree with posters who think that if he was at the river's edge, he was likely there for some other reason.

There are so many questions regarding his disappearance and death. I sure hope the police are able to piece this story together -- enough to help the family have confidence that they understand what happened to him.

By the way I thought the same thing about the keys, wallet, and phone being in his pocket. I don't know if those things were in his coat or pants pocket. But I think I read that he had a Columbia jacket on. And those coats often have deep pockets with zips or closures. Perhaps he secured his valuables in pockets like that either in the coat or possibly cargo or hiking type pants.

I really don't think that's a car. I'm definitely in agreeance with those that say it's the line of bushes. I looked, re-looked, looked again and lined it up with different things at different angles.

I now agree. I processed the image. It does appear to be the bush bordering the plaza.

People keep bringing up "all the young men" or the "gay men" who have disappeared and have been found in the river. Can someone please list facts and actual cases? I am not seeing the connection. I know someone listed some but, I think most of them can be dismissed as not related to any of the others. For Example Andre Grey was shot then put in the river. I have said it before I think they end up in the river because the rivers are there.

I have lived near these rivers my entire life, partied by them in my teens, walked across the bridges hundreds of times, alone and with friends, after partying in the city. Never ever did any of us ever fall into the river or go down flights of stairs to pee in the river. Never when partying on the river docks or walking the bridges. It is a ridiculous assumption. He would not be on some rickety old boat when his apartment was 2 blocks away. It makes no sense. He either jumped (which I doubt ) or he was put there. I am speaking of DJ but, what about Jimmy Slack?

Completely agree Beamer15, well said.
And all my friends and local Pgh people I talk to, also feel the same way.

Although we likely won't ever know all the details, I'm hoping that more of what happened does come out. He and his family deserve that!! Pittsburgh needs to stand together and not let this concern go quiet.

Since this urinating in the river thing has been suggested in everyone of these 'similar' cases (I try to follow any that I see in PA and Mass) I gave a theorhetical situation to my husband and male friends on my Facebook page "I have a quick question for my male friends, hypothetically- suppose that you're out bar hopping and drinking in a place with lots of water ways- and you were told or asked to leave the establishment that you were last known to be at, after making sure that any friend that you were with got a safe ride home, or if you got separated from your friends prior to being asked to leave the establishment- you get outside (in a cold setting during a winter month) and start walking home, soon after you realize that you need to urinate... Suppose other establishments near you are still open for business, there are lots of alley ways, parking garages, and other outside places with few people to possibly interrupt you while you urinate, and there's also a river or other body of water nearby, where would you choose to take care of your 'business'?" Long story short out of the 18 males plus my husband that gave me their input- not a single male chose the river/water. The majority said they'd find an open establishment if possible, even if they had to pay a small cover fee. the majority also said they'd go in a nearby alley, if they didn't have money for a cover fee or there were no businesses open in the immediate vicinity. None said that the would go near the water. The only way they'd go out of their way and near the water is if they absolutely had no other choice and it was a dire urination emergency, even if they were extremely intoxicated. My husband said he'd try to find an alley way with a dumpster and use that as a 'shield' to add the element of 'privacy'. Most of they males that responded are in their mid 20's, college age, as well. Just throwing that out there for what its worth. Moo.

How intoxicated does someone have to be before an establishment kicks them out? I would say really intoxicated to the point they can't function properly, and it would be noticeably so, otherwise they wouldn't be asked to leave. So how would he have been sober enough to get anywhere near a river if he was about fall down drunk? Did someone maybe spike his drink with something? I think from what his family have said he wasn't a big drinker and a pretty fit young man. Hopefully toxicilogy testing will find out more?

I agree. I'm sure this isn't the first time DJ went out to a bar with his friend/s or is it?

I think SFK has been blown off by so many is because of the stupid name!

If all along, this would have been called "The River Stalker" I think it would be a different deal.

what is your emotional response to headline:

Smiley Face Killer Strikes Again

or

"RIver Stalker Kills Again"

I think FBI would be following the RIver Stalker. moo

If media would follow these killings by MO few IMO, would not think some of this is interconnected. By one person, and copy cats.

WIth all the media coverage, folks inclination have learned they don't get caught.

Thats a pretty potent reason to use the same MO I would think.

I only know of one, can not remember the name where the parents did not buy this men dropping into water and dying stuff.

In that case , sure enough it was changed to murder. Wanna know why?

Cops missed (?) a clump of his hair in his hand - he was trying to get the person drowning his hands off the back of his head.

So, we have a 100% thus far, when throw away undetermined, it ends up converted to murder.

It sad that staffing levels result in LE all over the country having a much dtronger desrie to close cases than solve thm ...and so it shall continue.

AM I saying there are not incidents of people , while drunk, falling and drowning, of course not!

But the notion that every one of these incidents end up with those determinations is IMO kinda stupid .

Zachary Marr had the where with all to text friends of what had just occurred (locked out ) , logic aaly waited for some time for them to come out of the bar and then authorities is so blasted (after not having any alcohol for god know how long) and plummets to his death CAUSE of alcohol. I think Zach was suicide, but not planned, more of passing the river and being despondent over his grandmother's passing and ended up it Fuc* It and jumped.

What took me there was when I read how close he was to her, and the profound intensity of their relationship.

As far as I know to this date, there has been no mention, ever, of "a" mother involved. Stands to reason that gma would have a pivotal role in the young mans life.

SO lets role with that being true. Another case where this accidental drowning just is not the case.

If someone can remember the name of the guy who was in a truck, called his parents, they went looking for him and he was gone that would be great . The one where there was like a grunt on the cellphone before it went off

As i read elsewhere these deaths are just too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence.

I wonder as well if someone had slipped something in his drink. I have read that there are a number of drugs available online to nut jobs who are so inclined. Some of the ones I have read about as well are undetectable after a very short amount of time (some within a couple of hours). I suspect for this reason even if DJ had been slipped something or subdued with any drug it will not show up in the toxicology report. I think that although I suspect foul play, his death, like so many others will either be ruled accidental or inconclusive. And so it will continue...

Dakota's mom is tenacious. If there's something to be discovered, she'll find it.

Jimmy just learned about that case ...hummm

-date of disappearance and being found is guess what 6 weeks. Humm

_he worked on the waterways, on a barge! Waterway worker who is on slippery things for a living and in her goes.

- I don't really know but I am assuming on a barge requires some strength - so we have a strong guy who works on the water who can't get out of some water?

--Cops claim he was highly intoxicated, but was seperated from his gfriend at 930 that night - spoke with his parents via cell three in morning - so exactly how LE knows he was highly intoxicated is baffling.

- he was found in a location that had been previously search intensely by LE.

Body found around here, notice the gentile angle into the water- a guy who works on moving barges apparently could not navigate this gentle incline

Vertical climb. No rails. Cold water. Gasp reflex. Shock. Intoxication. Winter coats that absorb water. I don't think any amount of conditioning can prep you for that.

Private investigator hired by family:

http://www.wtae.com/article/more-tests-needed-to-find-cause-of-death-of-dakota-james/9105786

largest search in areas history and a lady walking her doggie locates him

Debbie Dohmlo was walking her dog....

“I saw something in the river, I wasn’t sure what it was,” she told KDKA. “I ran down to the river, that’s when I noticed the body. I saw an ear and the charcoal gray jacket.

“I followed him down, he got caught on a buoy for a while. I was hoping they would get there, then he got loose again. I followed him down more, that’s when police came,” Dohmlo said. “Horrible. I feel so bad for the family.”

fficers were able to corral it at the next dock down,”

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2017/03/06/body-of-missing-duquesne-grad-student-found/

The still looks so scary. No one around at all. I assume you big city folks (!) are used to that (we drive everywhere) , I would be so scared there - it just looks creepy.

Will never understand why they did release the whole clip of him in frame -- was there someone in the shot maybe???
