PA - Grace Packer, 14, murdered, Abington, 4 July 2016 *Killer died*

Sorry but I just have to say this...

Dear Grace,

I'm so sorry you had to endure this. I'm so sorry that the adults in your life, that were supposed to care for you and instill values in you that would help you to become a fantastic member of your community as an adult, turned out to be deviant lunatics. I'm so sorry that your life was cut short and so brutally. Your very name was the essence of what we ALL hope for in life: GRACE.

I didn't post a lot on your thread here on WS but once I read about your case it lodged in my heart forever. I will pray for your little brother for the rest of my days. I will pray for justice for what was done to you. I have privately shed so many tears for you girlie. My own daughter is just a year younger than you and I so wish you had someone to reach out to before these wicked people did what they did to you.

I hope you genuinely rest in His grace, little girl.

The adoptive father of a Montgomery County teenager found murdered in the woods after disappearing five months ago doesn't know who would have wanted Grace Packer dead.
David Packer, of Northampton, said in a brief phone interview that he didn't want to talk about Grace's death or the ongoing murder investigation.

[...]

In 2011, David Packer pleaded to statutory sexual assault after he was charged with indecent deviate sexual intercourse with a girl who was nine at the time of his arrest.
The victim told Northampton police that Packer had assaulted her over a four-year period from 2006 to 2010. Before he pleaded guilty, he was also charged with indecent assault of a second girl, 15 at the time, according to published accounts. Neither of the victims were identified.

I tell you... I wonder if it wasn't Grace. In 2011 she would have been 9.

"Grace, her mother, Sullivan, and Grace's 12-year-old biological brother had lived together. The brother is "safe and sound" with other family members, Weintraub said."

So, the same family members who presumably didn't intervene when Sara Packer, whose ex-husband is a convicted rapist of children, involved herself in an openly "polyamorus" relationship in the same home as her kids? (Obviously, I don't know exactly how much family members knew about Packer's personal life but I'm pretty sure red flags were present regarding her parenting choices.) Normally, I lean towards keeping children with relatives if possible but in this case I have to wonder if the son belongs in the care of a (thoroughly vetted) family who is dedicated to providing a forever home and is also completely unrelated to Packer's world.

Re: Packer's facial hair (visible again in the above link). I agree with PCOS as mentioned by some of you. It could also be high testosterone levels (without PCOS) from an adrenal gland issue. Either way, I hope to God that her defense doesn't try to use whatever it is as some sort of mitigating factor.

What on earth is wrong with people?! "Deviant" is the appropriate word. I can think of a few others too. How can people do this to another human being, let alone their own child?!?! May they never walk the streets, free, again.

Snip.

I don't believe we've been told via MSM about the NC relatives or her short-term placement there. ETA What I mean is: I don't think we have been told the details leading up to it or why she was returned to PA. Non-custodial family doesn't have the authority to "fight for" kids, usually.

In my experience as an extended family member of someone who lost custody of his kids for a while, it can be nearly impossible for the "good" relatives to maintain custody when out of state. Social services operate on a state basis and crossing state lines is extremely convoluted.

I have a LOT of words, but none that can be repeated in polite company. My blood has been BOILING since I read of this case. I hope the perps spend life in the general population, where child molesters and abusers are reviled.

PA's version of a life sentence means "life without parole", so if they are convicted, they can look forward to never setting foot outside a prison again. Which is exactly what's deserved.

I agree. Let them become the target of a fellow inmate's rape-murder fantasy.

It's disturbing that these are people you could have sat beside in a doctor's office or stood in line behind at the grocery store...

Knowing what we know about the premeditated murder of Grace of at least a year, I'm not sure that she didn't hope it would garner some sympathy for her. From what I know of PCOS (very little), it is not a condition I would wish on anyone. BUT IT'S CERTAINLY NOT AN EXCUSE FOR MURDERING YOUR DAUGHTER!!!!

Sounds like SP worked as an Adoption Superviser about the same time as they adopted Grace...

A woman charged with killing her adoptive daughter in a violent rape and murder fantasy previously worked for Northampton County Children and Youth as an "adoption supervisor" before she was suspended in 2010, authorities said Monday.
......
Northampton County officials issued a news release Monday stating Packer worked from the county from 2003 through 2010, but did not include any further details.
......
He said Packer's last date working for the county was in January 2010. Packer's employment status was listed as "suspended," but Barron said he had no additional details why she had been suspended.
......
Packer's salary was $44,600 at the time, Barron said.

........

According to Northampton County court records, the couple divorced in June.

Not to mention she's apparently supervised other folk's adoptions! My skin would crawl off if I'd had her in my home and around my children. I'm anti-death penalty, but good night, euthanasia might just be the most humane thing to ever happen to these two, and the world around them.

BBM. I have PCOS. Have had it for more than 13 years. Diagnosed in 2004 after not being able to conceive a 3rd child, but probably had it much longer. Never have I ever, ever, ever had a thought like this. I suffered from depression almost my entire life, not just since onset of PCOS. I know it affects everyone differently, but I don't see her getting anywhere using PCOS as a defense.

This is just horrifying. That poor girl. This crime reaches Karla Homolka levels of awfulness.

Oh my! I hope you did not think my post was directed at you. I'm angry at SP. :grouphug: Thank you for speaking up!

They'll use anything as an excuse trying to wiggle out of a just sentence for their crimes. Every time some criminal claims they killed because of their disability or their mental illness, every decent person with that diagnosis cringes and hopes to God that people understand that they're not killers, themselves.

Trust me, I know; I have autism and had to live through the way people reacted after Adam Lanza shot up that school full of kids. So many times I've had to explain to people that it's hate that makes you kill, not autism. :(

Personally, I'd like to figure out how she managed to get disability payments for Grace. What disability did Grace have, if any? And if her mom saw her as disabled, is that part of why she figured Grace was a "disposable child" she could use to sate her and her boyfriend's fantasy?

:grouphug: I have yet to see where Grace was diagnosed by a medical professional with any disability. I'm kind of thinking SP might have had the power to enter a diagnosis in the system as she was an adoption superviser. What would have been the payment they would have received without any disability diagnosis? I think they made it up for more money. Evil entities.

If Grace had had drugs in her system at birth, she may have had a diagnosis that followed her into her schooling. She may have had birth to 3 services as well. If she had a disability, you might not know it ever because she has a right to FERPA and HIPPA privacy.

SSI for children with disabilities is not a program that just takes adoption paperwork and signs off. You have doctor paperwork, school paperwork, and other independent provider paperwork. Often the amount paid is not high. It is not easy to get disability payments for children. Many kids get denied and their parents need to appeal. If she got payments, I would bet she did have a disability documented beyond her mother entering a code during the adoption process. .

I know students who get disability throughout school b/c they have Autism and the disability payments helps them to afford services. Upon turning 18 many of my students do not get continued disability as they have to be reevaluated. This may have been the case for Grace.
