A pregnant woman in Philadelphia died after she was shot in the head and stomach while unloading presents from her baby shower, police said

So sad. No words.

Police say the 32-year-old woman, who appeared to have been targeted, was shot in the head and stomach.

"I mean, the person that did this couldn't be more cowardly," said Deputy Commissioner Christine Coulter with the Philadelphia Police Department.

Authorities confirm the woman was leaving her baby shower during the incident with a car full of presents.

She was taken to Einstein Medical Center where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

She was 7 months pregnant and the baby also died.

I wonder how much info they have on this poor woman, such as workplace, school attended, etc., etc. Did she live alone?
Pregnant women are pretty high on many "hit lists."
Golly, this is so damm sad.
She was probably excited just after the baby shower. I know I was, and fortunately, I lived to tell about it. I remember putting the baby things in a chest in the "baby's room," and then I would take them back out and look at them again & again. My baby now has children of his own.
This baby won't get that opportunity, and his/her mother won't ever be a grandparent.
Just dammit.

I'd say the neighborhoods that got gentrified yet some "leftovers" could keep up with property taxes are safe. I feel safe at my friends because they're people knew both sides of my family generations back. It's gentrified, but they keep watch.

Poor Jessica Covington and her baby. I have no business over there, but it was a nice neighborhood. No matter where she was this shouldn't happen to anyone.

O/T but news worthy one of my neighbors works for Grub Hub stopped home. Came out. Got ambushed. Told them money was in the car. Got out his legal carry firearm and shot them. So??????

We're right up there with Chicago.

This poor woman was targeted. They're calling it domestic.

@borndem thank you so much for your concern. I knew every neighbor for blocks on end. Now these homes got snatched up by NYC slumlord's. It takes me a few years to even remotely trust anyone.

Sorry for the rant. There's a mother and unborn child murdered. It can't get worse than that.

Because she was shot in the head and the stomach I am thinking someone wanted to make absolutely sure the baby died as well.

At 7 months the baby could have survived even if the mother was brain dead.

According to District Attorney Larry Krasner, who said during a news conference that the slaying made him “sick,” it is “very likely” that whomever is charged in connection with the killing will face two counts of murder, one each for the mother and her unborn child. He said homicide detectives “have been working nonstop and doing an amazing job with this case.”

Last week, police also reported at least 240 women had been shot in Philadelphia this year, with 61 of them killed.
