PA - Lindsay Cassidy, 23, & Kolby O'Brien, 3, found strangled, Chester, 28 March 2008

I purchased a few archived articles. None of them mention that John Bryant has any surviving children. In fact, no survivors for he or his mother are mentioned. No proof of any relation.

From the above article:

Known as “Junior,” Bryant, who was born and reared in Chester, grew up in foster homes, according to his brother. The same family eventually adopted the two. “I’ve know him since he was 6,” Thomas Bryant said.

The article says that John Michael Bryant "Junior" was 28, so he was born in or around 1980. The murder of JMB (Senior?) was in 1985, making Junior about 5 at the time. Although, it sounds like he was already living in foster homes by this time. (Hence no mention of survivors in the obit?) The brother (doesn't say if he's older or younger, but I'd guess younger) says he's known Junior "since he was 6," when they were adopted by the same family.

Senior was a "self ordained reverend"? What does that mean exactly? Was he some kind of cult leader or something? I wonder why he lost custody of his kids ... (assuming that my above theory is right) ...

I don't think the Bryant murdered in 1985 is any relation. The tone of the article that I read led me to believe that the man was mentally slow. Also, if the Bryant boys were adopted, their last name would have changed to reflect the adoptive families. So, our John Michael Bryant may have been born a different name. Maybe that is the Beachum connection.

Whitney, that would mean the brothers are not biologically related, right? If they only knew eachother since the one was six years old. Despite being in foster homes they would have been together prior to that at some point. It is possible though that Junior is the son of the Reverend. Then again wouldn't Bryant be the name of the adoptive family? We'll soon find out I am sure. Hoping somehow these families will find some peace. Thank you to Indigator too for buying them archives.

I just realized something-what was the brother's first name? There is a Steve Beachum who served a prison sentence for multiple crimes and he is listed as living in Chester with a 1976 birthdate. Could this be the brother and the original surname?

The brothers name is Thomas I believe Indigator. I still don't get that alias Beachum connection. Although the Beachum in Virginia was the guy with all the fake ID business. Oh could they all be related do ya think? It's possible.

I know Blink said there was no gas to the apartment for heat, but what about the hot water heater?

I mentioned that also. If they just refurbished the apartment and it was not installed properly it could have had a leak. I would be surprised if the hot water heater was not in the apartment and in some other area of the building. My hubby is a plumber and will have to question him on this.

The obituary for the couple may not be listed because the bodies may not have been released...

I think you are right. There is no obit in today's paper either.

That is the correct name of the brother, as reported in the paper. The surname of the "adopted" family has not been reported, so we are assuming that Bryant was their given name. I would not be surprised to find out it is Beachum. JMB, nickname was "junior" according to his brother, that is common when a son has his fathers same name.

ETA: I meant Beachum may be their adopted name.

So that is true, LM? A friend told me that and I thought "No way". I suspect then my dad's was that much as well, but my sibling took care of all the arrangements so I didn't know that. My friend said in the tune of $400.00 so that's about right. Man, how about how some people got a life story in them Daily News ones. Must be costing at least $1,000.

My sister's obituary for 16 lines is $160. If we go over 16 lines, it will be $250. :(

I read this and thought I would post it. With Colby O'Brien's father in jail he wasn't going to be able to go to his son's viewing because he couldn't afford the cost of the court mandated escorts. Dupties volunteered their time at no cost to the father so he could go to the baby's viewing.

Kolby was a beautiful boy! I'm glad that those two officers stepped up to let Kolby's Dad get to go to his viewing.

Kolby sure was a cutie. I am so glad the officers were able to help.

I find it strange that there hasn't been an obit for John Bryan or Michelle Fynes yet. Did I miss it?
