PA - Lindsay Cassidy, 23, & Kolby O'Brien, 3, found strangled, Chester, 28 March 2008

I think it is safe to say that both Michelle and John Michael were wrestling with drug issues, as are many, many people in this country. Since they were looking for a place to live, it is apparent that their families were not available to help. Most likely they exceeded the favor threshold from families and friends and the newly rekindled friendship with Lindsay was a stroke of luck on their part.

I think to your point the brother Thomas said he would be seeing him that weekend as sort of a "family reunion", which would support that.
Somebody tell me that the Bryant 1985 murders are either a coincidence, not his father or relatives, and have nothing to do with this case so I can stop sounding like a broken record.

I have also heard that the Fyne Family lost another daughter last year.

Oh Indigator that's awful. I wanted to thank you as well for your insight into this case. Heartbreaking.

I'm hoping the obit for him will be in the paper tomorrow and then we will be able to tell.

I believe in some areas obits are optional and paid for and submitted by the family, is there any reason both John and Michelle's would not be in?

I was appalled at how expensive it is to get an obituary in a paper owned by the Journal-Register Company, which publishes the Delaware County Daily Times. A two paragraph one a year ago cost me $350. The Daily News and Inquirer do them for free, but only if they feel the person is "newsworthy." A paid death notice in the Daily News or Inquirer is even more expensive - probably $500 for a little tiny thing that just says who died and where the funeral is.

I can't think of any reason why they would not be in the paper. I had always thought the funeral director took care of that and that was part of the funeral expense.

So that is true, LM? A friend told me that and I thought "No way". I suspect then my dad's was that much as well, but my sibling took care of all the arrangements so I didn't know that. My friend said in the tune of $400.00 so that's about right. Man, how about how some people got a life story in them Daily News ones. Must be costing at least $1,000.

The photos in today's paper show a caucasian mom and baby. Don't know about the friends.

Thanks, luthersmama. Got me digging deeper into skin color and CO poisoning:

Although the brain and heart are sensitive to CO poisoning, other organs are also affected. Prolonged exposures, especially those resulting in coma or altered mental status, may be accompanied by retinal hemorrhages and lactic acidosis. Cherry-red skin color, a very late indicator of significantly elevated carboxyhemoglobin levels, is associated with severe CO poisoning, but is seen in only 2%-3% of symptomatic cases. Cherry-red skin color is not a reliable sign of CO poisoning

Link

This surprised me, but is corroborated by several other refereed sources.

Puts us back to waiting on the carboxyhemoglobin from the autopsy for the CO poisoning answer.

I know Blink said there was no gas to the apartment for heat, but what about the hot water heater?

  • #174
I'm not sure the HW heater would be in their apartment itself vs. the basement and even if it were, would by law need to be enclosed (have a door to access it)
I know everything else seems so far-fetched but imo, the CO is not a factor- Did anyone see Lucky No. Slevin? I swear that pops in my head every time I look at this case

I was thinking along the lines of a kerosene heater, but that would have been mentioned by the FD (I would hope). Your question as to whether there is any gas at all into the apartment opens new avenues; an intentional release which someone later shut off. An oven, hot water heater, etc, so we are dealing with a natural gas poisoning, not CO from combustion.

The Fire Marshall ruled out CO. The heat was electric. I don't think they would say it if they hadn't thoroughly checked it out.

The simplest explanation is murder/suicide by heroin. I think the sippy cup is going to be the answer.

Yes, but the ME will NOT rule out CO, he said. I think even if the PD and FD did, the ME still feels like the possibility exists. Why?

The obituary for the couple may not be listed because the bodies may not have been released...

And I am still not sure about the Bryant who was murdered in 1985. Can't find additional info. I think a trip to the newspaper archives in Philly would be necessary but I can't get there at least for the next week or so.

I have it, it was archived, I don't think I am able to post it, it's a doc.
What info do you need?
