Has there been any new updates on this little boy? What are they doing now to find out who he is? I promised I would not forget about him and I won't.

I was wondering, do they have DNA on this child? And were there no bar codes on boxes back then? Could they not trace where the bar code on the box came from and the purchase therein? Just wondering....

This case makes me cry.

I know this is an old post, but I didn't see anyone answer. Barcodes weren't used until the 70s.

There is only MTdna (on his mothers side) on him for a possible match to someone.I personally feel it is weak and not in CODIS.But I do not know this.I hope and pray they are redoing his DNA again for better results.Maybe someone can call and see if they are doing this for him.

barcodes did NOT exist back then. They know the bassinette box was purchased from the JC Penny store located in Upper Darby, I think between Nov of 1956 and Feb of 1957.

THE BOY IN THE BOX-I please need help finding out who the Manayunk Pennsylvania boy was and what West Philadelphia Orphanage he was put into.It does not say who he was......Unidentified Pennsylvania Couple - In March 1957, a Manayunk, PA couple told detectives they thought the boy might be their 6-year-old son, whom they had last seen seven months earlier when he was placed in an orphanage by the Municipal Court. The mother said the boy "looks like him" and the father said he wasn't "too sure." A team of detectives later found the boy in a private orphanage in West Philadelphia.

I will find out for you. I live an hour outside Philly and would also like to go to a vigil. I will probably call the cemetery and ask them.

Wow just read this thread from beginning to end. I will be calling my good friend who's a philly LE tomorrow and ask her if she can find out who, if anyone is assigned the case right now and see if she can point me in the direction of who to contact so I can relay that info to anyone reading here. Her and her family have lived in the northeast forever so maybe she can tell me if she's heard anything about this.

I know people aren't putting much stock into the woman, but does Anyone know what town in lower merion this "m" woman was from or what town the house was looked at in 2003? Lower merion is really not far from the old jc penny in upper Darby. I can get to 69th street faster from my house than I could from most towns in delaware county. I know there was speculation that this little boy could have been Jewish and there's a large Jewish population here, I just can't imagine why someone from lower merion would drive all the way to fox chase to place his body there. I know things were different then compared to now but there is no drive I dislike more than the drive up to NE philly.

I personally don't think this was a cover up by dhs or any other county agency. I think it happened in a private home by a parent or caretaker.

Maybe the child had disabilities and when questioned the parents informed family that he was institutionalized? Either way, someone knows something. This is really sad.

I think he was in a Orphanage,foster home or institution of some kind because of his institution style hair cut,the blanket cut in half to possibly fit cots and the diagnostic dye in his left eye to possibly check for an ailment.I feel he was either just getting into an institution of some kind or about ready to be adopted out.I was thinking DHS or child welfare might have been involved at some point because I don't see with him being as malnourished and sick and ill with possible other medical conditions how they were not called in with this little boy at one time.
