I used 200 Chestnut as the reference point, as she was said to be at an apartment complex on 2nd near Chestnut.

This was a tough one to read about tonight. An adorable 9 yr old girl, swinging in the park,
right beside her own apartment. I am sure she felt safe and comfy right by her home, surrounded by familiar people and sights and sounds. It makes me livid that another sweet innocent child is taken from the world like this. I can hardly take it anymore. RIP Sweetness. May You Find Peace And Light.

Such a beautiful child - such a tragic end. When will this madness stop?

Nothing on KYW and I am shocked. There is an 18 yr old missing from Burlington County NJ and they are reporting her at the top of the hour, but not a word in the hourly headlines on Skylar. :banghead:

I know! I listen to KYW in my car all day and the first I heard of this was this morning! So sad!! I've been wrapped up in the Caylee trial and here this was happening in my own backyard. :( WPVI just said they have someone in custody.

A 40-year-old man who lived in the little girl's apartment complex has been taken into custody. Charges have not yet been filed against the man, but they are expected. Action News has learned that the District Attorney's Office will be taking over the case.

Police say the victim knew the man, whom they have not yet identified. He was found yesterday with blood splatter on his clothing.

Wow, I never thought all these times posting here at WS, that I'd be posting about something so close. I live one block north of the Hillside Cemetary and Apartment complex where this took place. Last night we had the helicopters literally parked on top of our roof with their spotlights on, and this morning they have the roads closed off.

I guess there is a significant amount of evidence, as they have a very large area taped off.

I hate to pass judgment on people, but this apartment complex has, over the course of the past 20 years, or so, attracted some very unsavory people from all walks of life. I believe back in the 80's there was a shooting during a party there, and some other things, too. Knowing this and seeing people trying to raise their kids there, because they cannot afford to live elsewhere, always made me sad. Something like this just seemed bound to happen. :(

Anyway, my prayers go out to this poor little girl's family, and I'm glad to hear that the police are saying they have the perpetrator with 100% solid evidence.

RIP little one.

How many more of our children are going to be killed before
the Gov. finally does something.
You cannot blame LE as they only uphold the laws that are passed.

I live in MontCo too, in an apartment complex that has also seen it's share of troubles - drugs, domestic violence, you name it. I've interrupted drug deals in the laundry room. The kids also play in the parking lot and sometimes they're loud and annoying BUT I always tell them and their parents if they have a problem, run to my patio right on the parking lot and come on in, I'm usually home. I watch, scared to death for some of them in today's world. Maybe I should put a sign on my patio doors, safe house, or neighborhood watch? Just a thought.

By the time I saw the Amber Alert last night, I'm sure the child was dead. What a horrible, disgusting shame.

What do you think the Gov't can do? We need all the ideas we can get.

Very sad.. RIP Skylar...

I have a 9 year old daughter, who is going to be 10 next month just like Skylar. It is scary that kids can't even play out in their own backyards without having to worry. The world isn't at all like it was when I was growing up in the 80's -early 90's.

I hope this loser that killed Skylar pays for what he did to that innocent little girl. Prayers for the family.

Reinstate the death penalty in all states for this crime and USE IT.

At least you have it in some of your states whereas we don't have
it at all here in Canada.

RIP Skylar, god how I hate these stories about children being murdered. It breaks my heart each time :( I agree death penalty for these people who kill "our" children.

When I saw the Amber Alert on my TV last night, I so hoped that it was some sort of misunderstanding: perhaps Skylar had just wandered off and lost track of time. I never expected to wake up to this awful news this morning. Poor baby.

What a tragedy. RIP Skylar.
