A&E chose to air a program about a family and their everyday lives, in and outside of their family owned business. Did A&E not scope this family out before they made that decision? Bottom line for me is the show is about the Robertsons and their extended family (one of which is gay and was on the show for at least one episode) being themselves. Phil was being himself in the interview too. I would not respect the man any more if he lied about his beliefs. If A&E did not do their due diligense to know what they were getting into, shame on them. I'll continue to watch the family because I enjoy it, and because I can. I'll enjoy it even more if it moves to another network b/c in my opinion, A&E has no one to blame but themselves. Y'all are free to make your own decisions on if it is something you care to watch. I'm outta here, b/c the tone of this thrad could turn more ugly than the show or interview itself. Peace!

So, a bunch of people who surely aren't fans of the show in the first place, are outraged over Phil's expression of his not at all surprising personal opinion in response to direct questions about his view of "sin." A&E, therefore, puts him on an indefinite hiatus from the biggest hit it's ever had (as I understand it from the msm, anyway. Not a watcher). He and his family already have way more money then they know what to do with. So, as I see it, A&E has cut off its nose to spite its face based on the outrage of people who aren't members of the show's audience. That'll teach 'em lol

bbm, I must have missed it, could you show me what he said that is racist.

Ohhhhh Its because ..as of 2013/December, Says he recalls that Blacks were whatevers..NOT using derrogatory terms...BUT what he DID do..was use revisionist thoughts and beliefs that the "Blacks" were HAPPY..Didnt have a problem and nothing was ever happening to cause problems with them folks....:scared:

Course during his time which happened during Jum Crow era (per his interview)..people were hung..shot..and innocents died to stand up for their rights....

Its called Denial in 2013 almost 2014 almost 55 years after the fight for equal rights..WHAT he basically said (never happened)..His interview was based on false memory and denials of what was going on in the deep south in his hayday...:banghead:

Racists dont have to use verbal words to bash..BUT dismissRacising and denying the plight of minorities indicates ignorance of history...Thats basically all I can say and thats why thats who know history get exactly what his meaning is and understand why he said it....

Racism has morphed into overt words..to subverent inferences..defelctions of discussion by by claiming baitings and so on.....Denials of Racial difficulties is no different than denying enviornmental challenges.. :truce:

Lol Karmady!

I've had an alert that religion has been discussed in this thread. While we do not normally allow discussions regarding religion, that is an intricate part of this topic. As long as you guys are getting along for the most part, we'd like to keep this open. It's up to you guys. Please limit religion to referencing the scriptures that Phil discussed in his interview and not any other Biblical topics. Thank you.

Thanks wasn't enough! Excellent post. Many are choosing not to see the racism in his statements because he doesn't come right out and use popular pejorative words and veils his racism behind his "memories". He, and his supporters are trying to take the easy way out by feigning ignorance.

I highly encourage everyone to read the article in its entirety before casting stones (racist, homophobic labels etc). Just because Phil quoted and paraphrased scripture to express his beliefs when asked specific questions does not , IMO, make him what those who are crying out about his statements label him to be. It amazes me that people read into statements what they want. IMO when he equated himself to white trash when working the fields during the Jim Crow era he was actually stating that the black generation of the time, as well as "white trash" (ie: poor) were happy and grateful for what they had and did not voice hatred for the white race or those more fortunate. When he says "pre-entitlement, pre-welfare" he did not say he meant blacks in the south. It can be interpreted just as easily as "poor people of that time were happier then with less because they worked for it, not because they expected it for free. " This comes from a man who grew up with outhouses and the like. And for those claiming he is racist, do you not know that he has bi-racial adopted grandchildren? I am a self proclaimed Christian, yet I have many gay family members and bi-racial cousins. I don't judge anyone for who they are. It's not my place. Anyhow, this is my take on the fiasco and what I put in my personal fb page:

I love mankind. It's not my place to judge anyone for their choices. I believe in scripture, but I interpret it in the way god has directed me to. The whole DD controversy is silly to me. He quoted scripture, explained his thoughts on it and then expounded by saying in the end it's the almighty god who makes the final judgement. That we should love one another and god was his true message. The fact is we are all sinners. Jesus died for our sins so that we may still yet receive the kingdom of heaven through his sacrifice. We were all born of free will. It's our choice to do what we do, yet, biology does have something to do with it. I believe god wants us to be who we are and be accepting of others regardless of what is defined as sin. There is not one human on this planet free from sin, as no one is perfect. I'm tired of the media spin placed on everything these days. I hate good people being set up by sensationalist organizations by asking questions or creating conversations that they know will cause controversy. General McChrystal is a perfect example of such treachery. Instead of wailing over personal beliefs let's look instead to the real problems that plague us as a country and species. Serious introspection is needed if we ever hope to advance positively as the human race. My opinion only.

I see nothing wrong with what he said. If that is what he saw growing up who are we to say he is lying. And as far as the anti gay remarks, that's his opinion.

So....seems the folks who pretty much agree with A&E's decision on this thread have used terms such as:
Redneck
Hillbilly
Homophobic
Homophobic Hatred
Racist
Bigot
Homophobic A-hole
Hate Speech

A lot of brutality against a man stating his beliefs and opinions, and who never used the above terms.
Actually it is the viewing public and show sponsors who enable A&E to pay Mr. Robertson. One of those sponsors has publicly stated they support Phil.
The Facebook page 'Boycott A&E Until Phil Robertson Is Put Back On Duck Dynasty' has over a million and a half 'likes'.
And BLACK conservative Wayne Dupree 'https://www.facebook.com/NewsNinja2012' totally supports Phil.

A&E caved to GLAAD and suspended Mr. Robertson and took away his livelihood because of GLAAD's outcry. Not very smart on A&E's part.

With all due respect, I'm not sure how anyone knows why I or anyone else make the decisions I / we make, (Not even the long Island Medium lol) only I know what is in my heart (yes I do have one) or what I think or feel or from where I came as a person. The reason I don't see the racism is b/c I don't believe it is there, unless one chooses to read it that way. JMHO.

I wonder how the black folks who Phil remembers as being so happy living without their civil rights would remember things? Nice of Phil to speak for how all of them really felt lol.

Could it be possible that, as black people in that time and place, when lynchings were still going on, btw, they weren't comfortable talking about things like racism, segregation, civil rights, etc, with a white man?? Yes, even a "poor white trash" white guy, as Phil described himself - because poor white trash, though poor and trashy, still had all their civil rights, and weren't being harassed and assaulted and murdered, unlike blacks.

Mck16, According to Google, the guy was a pet photographer, but I couldn't find it on the link they gave ( http://www.aetv.com/schedule ) but you may have better luck than I did. Off to feed the furkids and get some R&R.

Pretty sure his livelihood is just fine. The DD merchandise for this year alone has brought in about $400million, plus they still have their company and sponsors. The show is still running, and I expect it will continue to run, maybe on a different network.

ALL you said MAYBE or MAYBE NOT..A&E have their Copyrights..so at this point who knows...IF any other network wants to air the Duck Show...There may be an issue ????? Duck Dynasty may NOT be represented as is known now...AND due to the Branding..Phil and FAmily cant peddle their Reality Show elsewhere......Copyright Laws trump it all!!! Capitalism reigns!!!

As to worrying about the Roberston Family. They'll be just fine..It's not like they will all of a sudden be on the Govt. Dole....Let them live their lives..kinda like the old saying "Live and Let Live philosophy...Phil said his say>>>No Jail time or legal chargings>>>>so no 1st ammendment rights offense...Silly..

These folks can say..believe whatever they wish...BUT Hello..Corporate..Capitalism may say>Thanx but no Thx....Thats the American way...NO???

Problem is, we the readers do not know what the context of the conversation was when this supposed "quote" was obtained since the author of the article conveniently left that part out. Instead, he used said "quote"for sensationalism, just as he did the other two "quotes".

Per the article: "On growing up in pre-civil-rights-era Louisiana
“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field.... They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Seems to me in his perspective the only two classes that existed for him in that era were, farmers and the poor who worked for them. Again, how did this conversation start? Where's the reporter's question leading up to this statement? MOO
