Why wouldn't PR have omitted 'southern'. She knew JR's not 'southern' why would she bring it up? That just makes her ficticious foreign faction look wrong.

Not really...as I said before...she is making it appear as though they knew SOME things about John, and for some reason...they thought that he was from the south. Its just another way of pointing AWAY from herself as being the author of the RN. IOW...as she was writing it, she was trying to think of things to throw in, that would point TO a member of a SFF..and away from her. So, since SHE knew that John was NOT from the south...the SFF had to believe that he WAS from the south. That is why she threw that in there. IOW...opposite from the truth. Because as I said before...if it had of really been written by a member of a SFF...they actually wouldn't have known were John was from. So why...if they obviously didn't know where he was from...would they have said..."use that good southern common sense of yours"? And since Patsy IS from the south...she was probably trying to compliment her heritage.

Even if I wasn't IDI, I wouldn't buy this because it is self-contradictory. If she is pointing away from herself, why would she add something to compliment her own heritage? Remember she didn't need to add 'southern', just the 'use your good common sense' would've been fine, just like 'be rested'.

For that very reason...IOW, "Patsy couldn't have written this RN...she is southern, so why would she write..."use that good southern common sense of yours", because that would only point the finger back at her...she wouldn't be THAT stupid....would she?' IOW...complimenting her own heritage, WAS pointing away from herself. Because she knew that people wouldn't think that she was the author...if she wrote that...because SHE IS from the south. She used a bit of reverse psychology there.

Nope.

By simply adding the word 'southern' she directs the investigation to her side. Not necessarily to herself personally but to her group, which could backfire. And if she was smart enough to reverse psychologize the RN then she'd see the backfire problem.

There's no good reason for PR to write 'southern'. Not reverse psychology, not to show pride in her heritage (LOL), not anything.

Instead, it was probably intruders that looked around the house for a couple of hours and figured they both were from the south, maybe from their decorations or something.

I disagree. Investigators would look at it and say..."Why would Patsy use the word southern, because SHE is from the south. She couldn't have written that note, why would she want to point the finger at herself?" The same reason that she misspelled a word, but correctly spelled attaché (the misspelled word was done on purpose).

Even if the intruders had of "looked around the house for a couple of hours and figured they both were from the south"...(LOL...that's funny!), why would they have used the word Southern if they weren't sure that was where John was from? They sounded quite sure of themselves, when they wrote.."use that good southern common sense of yours". I have seen pictures of all of the rooms in the Ramsey home..and there was not one thing that I can think of that screams..."southerners".

There's no good reason for PR to write 'southern'.
But there is no good reason either for any of the other nonsense you can find in the note (e. g. "we are a small foreign faction").
All this shows that the writer of the note neither had the time nor the nerve to think anything through, but just wildly threw some ingredients into the mix, hoping it would be swallowed.

Instead, it was probably intruders that looked around the house for a couple of hours and figured they both were from the south, maybe from their decorations or something.
You aren't serious, are you? LOL - priceless! Thanks for a good laugh! :D

sounds like an inside family joke to me.and I recall reading somewhere that it was such.
But foreigners who research the US and it's areas and history, would be much more likely to say something like 'use that confederate rationality of yours'.If you're saying they're foreigners, then why would they even have any reasoning of north vs south, the way we Americans do?They wouldn't.

I agree,it was Patsy's way off saying they knew JR..but not very well. They knew he'd lived in the south and assumed he was born there, but he wasn't.I've also read it was an inside family joke, which makes sense.

My point is...what we have here...according to you...is a member of a self described...small foreign faction. He (or she) traveled all the way from some foreign, unknown country to break into the home of a six year old girl to kidnap and/or kill her. They sit down and write a helluva RN...almost three pages long. Sure they start out with Dear Mr. Ramsey..and go on to say get plenty of rest, and to take an adequate sized attache...but, then they go on to say that if the Rams talk to so much as a dog, that their daughter would be beheaded. Yeah, they sound real "polite" alright. And you think that this person, made up..or found..a bowl of pineapple (how did they know that JB liked pineapple, huh?) and took it down to the basement for her to snack on and then they brought the bowl back up and placed it on the dining room table. Why in the world would they feed JB pineapple? Do you honestly believe that she is just going to sit or stand there in the basement with a total stranger and snack on pineapple? For you to believe that is....well...unbelievable, just ridiculous.

..and to expect us to believe it is even more ridiculous.we here in the south aren't as clueless as some ppl think.how many ppl retire and move north? j/king,lol.

I live in SC too, JMO...and I was thinking after I last posted to Holdon...how DO you decorate southern?? I guess the intruders looked around and saw a bunch of magnolias and the word Y'all hanging up somewhere.

LOL..exactly...you are making me hungry. I guess that Patsy and John had those hanging up somewhere. I have never heard of decorating NORTHERN, either. Now, I HAVE heard of decorating with a Western flare. But, Patsy wasn't from the west, and the note didn't say to "use that good western common sense of yours".

Indeed they wouldn't. I'm a 'foreigner' too (from Germany) and can confirm that. :)

Wow, I'm not sure where you're coming from with this.

The RN is very specific on what JR was supposed to be doing that morning. You can probably recite everything JR was expected to do according to the RN. The RN was very thorough on the sequence of events, and was very clear on practically every point.

The author makes implicit and explicit references to both status and nationality, and closes the RN with a political salutation 'Victory!'

Your idea that the note is nonsense is the same as the crime scene staged, and the handwriting disguised. It provides RDI an excuse to not find any reason or rhyme. According to you, instead of extracting a pattern and a personality from the evidence, we should take all the evidence, toss it in a blender, turn it on, and claim RDI.

I also read that. Although JR wasn't born in the South, as PR was, they considered Atlanta, Georgia their real home. PR wasn't thrilled about the move to Boulder; neither was Nedra. If you recall, Grandpa P. worked for Access Graphics and kept an apartment in Boulder because Nedra refused to move there; she stayed in Atlanta. I had read that it was Nedra who used to tease JR to "us that good old Southern common sense of yours, John."

Anyone who would like to see, just pick up a copy of "Southern Living" magazine- Southern style is beautiful and gracious, elegant and dignified. I LOVED the South, the little of it I saw. Loved Charleston.
I've lived my whole life in New Jersey. We're the toxic nucleus of the universe. But I can sure appreciate the elegance and manners of a true Southerner.
